  • Those that are unwilling to learn are still struggling with cultural identity issues similarly to those 30 years ago. Or just plan illiterate; lack of brain capacity or smarts. It saddens me to know that other ethnic groups can learn to appreciate our Hmong language when our kind is so ungrateful of their cultural heritage to know how to read and write. Until you learn to appreciate and be grateful of your identity, you’ll then learn to appreciate your culture, the language and your true roots.

  • Subscribed.

  • Thanks for the upload. I used to think that it's useless to learn reading and writing Hmong even though I am Hmong, but as I am in school for a major that involves working with the Hmong community, I am advised that if I want to find a job when I graduate I need to be able to not only speak Hmong fluently, but read and write my native language fluently. I now realize I should have done that a long time ago, I could be interning right now. I will use these videos to my benefit. Thanks once again.

  • i am hmong but i was born in america and i dont know hmong so i am kinda embarrased when the elders speak to me and i have no idea what they say

  • Sounds just like Vietnamese!

  • @Spankyjonez

  • Thank you lislijhuam for your time investment in educating others. Disregard the usual whining minority.

  • Thank you lislijhuam for doing this. I really appreciate it. I am learning hmong right now because i'm really bad at it. I am a registered nurse and it's hard when i don't know how to write or read in hmong or to learn and translate for my patient. I cannot thank you enough. I will write in hmong once i get used to it here on your channel.

    Thanks again.

  • ive was saying it as we went along and i couldn't get the last part

    thank you

  • nyos nig nyuag hahahalol what's that? that is so funny

  • i'm learning how to read and write hmong actually to better improve it even though i only know a little of each. but hey thanks for taking the time to share this.

  • P.S. If kids these days don't learn how to speak Hmong correctly, the Hmong writing will be all hmonglish. MOOB DOES NOT HMOOB.

  • However, I have a suggestion for you. You should emphasize that it is important to know how to speak it fluently to write fluently. Because kids these days don't know how to speak Hmong, so they don't know how to write Hmong. For example, take the word "hmoob." Kids these days write "moob" because they pronounce it with no "h". They don't hear the "h." A fluent hmong speaker would hear the "h." So, it is important to speak correctly because it makes you a fluent Hmong writer.

  • @cheexiong03

Agreed. Hmong is tonal language and the mechanics are difficult to master. Learning to writing alone will not teach them to speak or write correctly. Kids nowadays will be lucky if your parents encourage Hmong, even if they don't appreciate it (yet). Learn how to speak Hmong first, then learn how to write it.

For those of you with kids, it helps if your wife supports your efforts to teach your kids your native tongue. An unsupportive wife defeats it all.

  • I can write and read Hmong almost fluently.

I watched a couple of videos, and I think you're great. You would definitely make a great Hmong teacher. Very clear and concise.

  • I'm used to reading all these as a singer but for some reason I find it much harder to write than to read. Other than that, I'm getting better at it. Thank you for the videos.

  • this really help...........thanks..........

  • this reminds me when i learned hmong back in 7th grade. it took me 1 /12 month to fully understand it.

this is just the basic. there r a lot more than this... it gets really hard as u progress but now a days, ppl rarely use them. anyway, good upload!

  • Nov video zoo kawg li os

  • I don't understand our Hmong people, we are humble to accept foreigner create writing system for us but we are not humble accept the real Hmong created writing system. everything foreigner do for us so they can used ours people it doses not last. they will try to destroy later. please search the true and build the good foundation for all kid an our people for ever last.

  • It is nice to use as Hmong writing but other people who created the system already copy right ever you improve this system it but still belong to the creator. why should we learn the one that true

miaohmoob created as ours writing system. Start teaching the real hmong alphabet. if you are miaohmoob

  • I agreed. This is NOT true Hmong writing system. It was created by missionary father Nhia Pao (French man lives with Hmong since 1930's). The goal at that time was to spread the word of Jesus/Virgin Mary. So it ended up being used as communication by non-christian. THis was not the first writing system developed by foriegn. There was an earlier version which used Russina characters in the China Mainland. If you go to China today will see some Miao church still using it.

  • however, this is a very good Hmong writing system in the Hmong community right now. Hmong all around the globe are using this writing system to communicate for each other.

  • @miaoyaht ..... some people just like to biatch.... get us a better system then say this unproductive shite...mofo

  • The title of this video is inappropriate. It is more correct to call it Some characteristics and SOUNDS of the Hmong Language. THIS IS NOT THE HMONG ALPHABET, nor is it correct to call it the English alphabet; but it is accurate to call it the Latin alphabet(they invented this alphabet). People just borrow its brush stroke to call it their for the purpose of communication and speaking their language. If you call this the Hmong alphabet, CURSE YOU and ANYONE who use it to call theirs.

  • thanks for your opinion.

  • This is not an opinion. It is a FACT. Do you want proof?

  • yes.

  • Honestly, I prefer Phaj Hauj, but......we also have to learn what is used more often right?

  • I never use this written language because it cannot write all the sound of the Hmong language. I agree with you. Phaj Hauj is the best language for the Hmong and anyone who wishes to speak in Hmong.

  • Well, it may be created by them, but what can you do? These letters are now being used in the Hmong language for communication. Perhaps, you don't want to take the time and sit down to learn it. If you don't want to learn this alphabet, you could also learn Phaj Hauj Hmong which I highly doubt you would tackle unless you are very interested in it. I don't mean for my words to come off as offensive to you my friend. Sorry if it did.

  • Sorry to disappoint you but I can write and speak Hmong Phaj Hauj. You and probably the other 99% of the Hmong population wouldn't understand because Phaj Hauj is too complicate for the low minded people who doesn't seek truth or knowledge.

  • Actually, kuv yuav tsum qhia rau koj ab tsis tsog kuv nawb mog. Kuv yog ib tug mes kas uas tab tom kawm lus hmoob hab. Kuv tsis yog txawj hais lus hmoob xwb hos, kuv txawj nyeej Phaj Hauj hab RPA los mas. Tab sis, koj muaj tseeb tox cov neeg hmoob feem coob lawm os. Lawv nyeem hab sau niam ntawv Phaj Hauj tsis tau mas. Pab lawv tu siab tab mas, tej zaug lawv tsis muaj siab kawm nws ho.

  • If you want to reply to me, please use either English or Phaj Hauj since I do not speak the RPA language. If you claim that you know Phaj Hauj, then you should know these three fundamental questions. Who created the Hmong Phaj Hauj? How many characters are there in the Hmong Phaj Hauj? Why/how is it different from English, RPA, and any other languages out there? This final question is what define the Hmong identity.

  • I know both Phajhauj and Ntawv Hmong Thoobteb. you can check my website if you have time. thanks.

  • If you know Phajhauj, then why are you wasting your time with teaching RPA? I am not saying that it is bad since most Hmong uses this anyway, I am saying that RPA does not represent the identity of the Hmong nor does it allow correct pronouciation of the Hmong language. I do not see the spread of new ideas with RPA. Prove me wrong be translating these common words "history, map, and government". Count the number of characters and give it to any Hmong to read it. I bet that they cannot read it.

  • This kind write create by pastor came to laos they created for hmong christian so they came read the bible word, but today your people unchristian using as general cross all country that have miao hmong people, Did your nation know how to create your own writing system fit yo people.

  • I think most of us already know about this history. thanks for comment.

  • Sorry if you misunderstood the point. what I'm trying to say is that this is not a Hmong system, to re-enforce what others are also saying. When Father Nhia Pov gave to Hmong, did you know that he said "...Only so that you people can communicate and get the good news of God, it is not your system". How sad is this? I'm proud to be Hmong, I prefer the Yang Shong Lue's system as he was like a messenger to us,and come to contact witht he system before the RPA. RPA is good but one have to think..

  • RPA is not bad but creates a false identity of who you are. Of course, if you don't care and take the broad road, be lazy and learn RPA in 3 days. Remember the story about Ho Chi Ming telling Hmong he couldn't let Hmong led the fight because Hmong has nothing that belongs to them? That's why he helped the Pathet Lao. Remember? I think in the long run RPA will die out. I don't know about some of you but I can't claim that RPA is Hmong writing. Viet use the latin system they are paying taxes..

  • Vietnamese paying taxes for their written system, because they're using the latin alphabet. I don't think so.

  • For one who claims to know Pahauh writing but do not know the meaning of viet were paying taxes trounles me. They teach that in that class if i recall correctly.

    nice video btw.

  • hey do you know this website to learn hmong

  • WONDERFUL!
