There's a factual inaccuracy in there about him "choosing" to leave the Phillipines. He was ORDERED to leave Corregidor by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to take command as Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers and Commander-in-Chief of the Southwest Pacific Areas, initially based out of Australia. He strongly considered resigning his commission rather than leave--it is not as though he fled the place of his own accord.
