i played this together with emmy rossums version. im not one to compare and i loved emmys acting but her voice really wasnt ready for this part, it sounded as if she was background compared to this! sierra is a godess. shes super talented and i wish they picked someoe like her for the movie role.
I got goosebumps listening to this song. and I NEVER have gotten them from beautiful music before. What does that say? GENIUS Andrew Lloyd Webber and AMAZING Sierra Boggess! :D
@MsAudesapere Honestly, It's not going to be good. They put Taylor Swift in for Eponine instead of Evan Rachel Wood or Lea Michele. That's saying something.
Taylor Swift as Eponine? Seriously? LMFAO!!! That is all PR..I like Taylor Swift, but she has zero the amt of 'grit' that is needed for Eponine..Why not just put Justin Beiber in for the phantom, and Lady GAGA in for Chistine?
@MrReed314 Fear not my friend. Taylor Swift is no longer involved in Les Miserable. YAY! Now let's just get rid of Amanda Seyfried as Cosette. Who's with me?!
@Silver54ful No. Amanda Seyfried is a classically and musical theatre trained singer, not to mention a terrific actress. She'll be a wonderful Cosette.
@TheCherryBomber1 Well personally she hasn't done anything I've seen that's impressed me. But if you say she's had training then I'll take your word for it. I know Anne Hathaway is trained singer so that's why I was more open to her being invoved. I guess we'll just see how it all works out in December. :)
I just saw this show (Albert hall),and thought that both leads,Christine and The Phantom, were totally mesmerising and stunning. They were the perfect casting couple in this role.10/10.
I said a while back that I hoped they would come out with a performance of POTO with Sierra as Christine and Raminloo as Eric-- especially after hearing them together in LND. I was overjoyed to hear of this coming out and can't wait to get it on DVD
i disliked seira so much in love never dies, found her deadly dull, but i was lucky enough to see her in the concert and she was AMAZING, a sublime christine xxx wouldn't swop my experience for the world cccc
I have been to, and performed in, HUNDREDS of operas and musicals in my lifetime, but when I saw Sierra perform this live in poto25, it was the first time in my life that a soprano brought goosebumps to my skin and tears to my eyes. I've gotten that "sucker punch to the gut" feeling off tenors before (and occasionally a really good mezzo), but I was never much for sopranos until I saw Sierra's performance of THIS aria. So moving, so expressive, so CHRISTINE... Bravissima, Sierra!
The one thing about Sierra that I love, is that she is such a great actress..Facial expressions, etc. I think she is best at playing the role of Christine than anyone else I have seen. I feel that most women who play the role concentrate more on the singing than the acting. I feel was the situation with Emmy. Even with the restrictive gown she wore when she sang Think of Me, her face was doll-like.Also, I think that Sierra has one of the more "dynamic," voices, she puts great meaning into it.
Can people PLEASE STOP comparing Emmy and Sierra!? They obvioisly are going to have different voices for Christine. Both are amazing Christines in my eyes.
@UzeraEdel Finally someone agrees with me that Sarah Brightman isn't THAT good! Everyone just thinks that she's amazing. While I agree that she DOES have the skills, she isn't especially good.
But I must disagree with your opinion of Sierra Boggess – Two words. HELL yes <3
Astounding! Sierra'a "try to forgive, teach me to live" gets me every time! So much emotion in her voice! I want to see this when it is finally released here in the US!!!
Remember that Emmy Rossum was 18 when she was in the phantom of the opera (2004 film) and Sierra Boggess is 29 in this musical. You don't need to compare that.
@Jasmine94Angel Emm's was 16 when they made it, 17 when it came out. But that's beside the point. Everyone to their own. Music is one of the most subjective things in the world.
@CharmedBalthazar I mean...music's subjective....but Sierra sings circles around Emma. That's just a truth. And I'm not sure I would lend that merely to age.
@Jasmine94Angel I am in no way denying Emmy the awesome talent that she has, but keep in mind that Emmy was in a movie, that means if you screw up you could go back and fix it and the sounds can are usually are tweaked to perfection. Sierra does the live stage productions which means you have to be perfect in what you do and how you sound without any help.
@RaySingh87 No I don't think Emmy is anywhere near one of the "Greatest Actresses or Singers of All-Time" list. However I do think she is talented & seems like a very down-to-earth person. I did enjoy her interpretation of Christine very much. And despite vocal flaws, I still think she has a lovely voice. I would rather listen to her then the majority horrid pop stars working today. That being said I'm not blind to her faults & acknowledge there are much better singers who have played Christine
@JimmieOC Hun, just read the previous comments on this video. I don't think I need to say any more, although I will say Emmy isn't awful, but Sierra is much, much, much (x10000) better.
@Katharos703 The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall. Search that on Amazon, it's both on cd and dvd. However it's not been released in America yet. It's a fully staged production of the show, first time it's ever been released for dvd, besides the 2004 movie of course.
@CharmedBalthazar The movie SUCKED. Now it's Feb 8th 2012 and now this production isavailable on DVD and BLU RAY here in the US. Awesome performance and production.

@CharmedBalthazar I understand about the movie. I was just saying in my opinion that the movie version sucked. What made is suck even more I spent money to see it in the movies theatres when it came out. Was a little envious when I heard that I had to wait for the US release. But now that I have it oo, SO WORTH THE WAIT. The Music of The Night Will Live Forever.
I was amazed at the emotion Sierra portrayed in this performance! She is such an amazing actress and singer! She started out in contemporary singing and only more recently began training her voice for opera. She is my idol!
You don't have to like Sierra at all. However you are once again mistaken. Emmy can not sing opera. She was in the children's chorus. Basic singing for their age, nothing more. I am a big fan of Emmy's. She does have a lovely voice. And I love her acting ability. However, technique wise Sierra is better vocally. As for the reason she has so much vibrato, she has a cold & she needs to project that emotion to the enitre theatre. All those people need to feel her pain. Emmy didn't sing live.
@Silver54ful yah i thought lyric soprano was the same as just soprano and all...my bad....but i do gotta say i like sierra's 'love never dies'.....the high notes just make the song...i just didn't like one lil section of the song the way she sung the one version but the rest of it was awesome
@movieboy09 Sopranos do exist outside the world of opera. It;s a common mistake so no worries. Mariah Carey is actually a coloratura soprano even though she sings pop. Emmy is no longer a sopano I'm afraid. At the time she did Phantom, she was a Light Lyric soprano. Now she is a Lyric mezzo. Still very lovely. Her voice has just developed naturally into a lower range. And she's a heck of a better singer then pretty much all the tacky pop starts of today! Sierra remains a Colortura soprano.
@chimptastic400 i have seen tons of phantom shows and gotta say...to me emmy rossum was one of the best....not at acting but singing haha....many christine's strain to do higher notes and it doesn't sound as good but she didn't....sierra is good but idk....to me she sometimes sounds like she is over acting in her singing haha
@kipster746 yah she could...it sounded less strained and forced than most singers do....she's a trained opera singer and could even go like one note higher than the highest in phantom
@movieboy09 Yes yes, Emmy has a very pretty voice not to mention she's extremely cute! So I suggest you find a video or song with her and listen to it! And the people who luff Sierra (like me... Else I wouldn't have posted the vid, duh) can listen to this. That way eveyone can be happy! :DDD...
@movieboy09 Sorry but you are mistaken. Emmy never was an opera singer. (Still isn't) Emmy had several vocal faults thoughout the show. She cracked during Think of Me & had to lower the E flat for the title song. The reason her voiced sounded less strained is because the film-makers used a computer technique to make it seem less forced. Sierra's timbre is much higher. The overall score was lowered so it would be easier for Emmy to sing. Sierra sang it as it was written. Sierra is a true soprano
Although I have seen Phantom of the Opera on stage over 3 dozen times, I never had the pleasure of seeing Sierra Boggess as Christina! Darn! I feel cheated, although I did see Davis Gaines over a dozen times, and he was the absolute BEST Phantom ever!
stunning voice. She is beautiful both physically and vocally. You can hear the emotion in her breathing as well as her singing givng the sense that even though she this is just audio she really acted the song as well. Breathtaking ending. Brava, Sierra!
had to be the most show stopping song of the whole performance. Was there for this amazing display of acting and singing by sierra!! Her and Ramin together are off the charts...
THIS THIIIIS is the reason for theater and performing in general!!! The emotion was soooooooo present and strong! It gives you goosebumps and I just cannot believe that ARIEL from The Little mermaid had THIS in her, she's a brilliant performer! I hope she goes further in her career, I love her so much because of her portrayal of Christine! Thank you soo much Sierra, you have brought joy to so many.
with the first image i thought it was a video.. im like woah man, she can stand REALLY still when singing... then i realised it was a pic.. how did i make it through school? geezee. haha
Ever since I saw her live in LND, Sierra has been my favorite actress and my only Christine. I would have killed to see this in person and not just in the movie theatre.
I have seen Phantom of the Opera more than 12 times and this was the first time I cried to this song. Sierra's performance was just FANTASTIC and I clapped and said bravo during the live showing on October 2 with the rest of the movie theater doing the same.
Sierra's performance of this song was just absolutely amazing. I actually started to cry because of how much emotion she put into it. Awesome job!!! Thank you for putting it up!
@Melstrife I was in the cinema, and I was shaking so hard, the tears wouldn't come out of my eyes! I've tried to sing this song as well as she does, but I can't! I thought no one could capture the emotion of this song, and I am so glad Sierra proved me wrong! Bravi, Bravi, Bravisimi! "Why can't the past just die?" and on leaves me in so many tears!
@christinegrrl I couldn't agree more! When she started to sing "Why can't the past just die?" It took me over. Sierra's voice as improved so much over the years. I don't think I could have ever asked for a better Christine then Sierra, especially with Ramin as Phantom. Putting the back together since LND, really showed off their chemistry and how they get along. Such a great performance, I can't wait to own this for myself.
@Evviex she is amazing. i am a phan of kathy voytko, although she never had the chance to play christine on a regular basis and i have never heard her sing that part, i have heard her sing others and think she would have done a marvelous job. her husband John has toured the states and done Bway as the Phantom as well. He is amazing. I do like Ramine though! can't wait to see the dvd!!
This was her finest moment in the whole show! Notn that she wasn't great in the rest of it. But in this moment in particular, she really did surrender to the character. She embraced Christine's agony and torment. Her acting really did mesh with her singing. Hit every note perfectly while emotionally baring her soul. BRAVO!
@Silver54ful A++! Sierra's performence reminded me of my cousin Brandon who died from a severe form of bronchitis when he was 5, I was 6 when he died and now that I'm older I only regret that I was too young to give a euology, because my cousin was in many ways my best friend. But now I've seen Sierra sing, it's "helped me to say goodbye" in a way.
BEST VERSION EVER!!!!

I have never heard anyone sing with such emotion. She feels every word of that song, and she makes damn sure the audience does too. She's a goddess.

I love this musical and mainly this song. It's so beautiful and I sang it at my dad's funeral. I'm thirteen.

Incredibly beautiful voice!

I saw this on the first night. Was absolutely incredible and when Sierra finished singing this the audience just wouldn't stop clapping! x

I was there. It was mind- blowing. She was only a tiny speck on the stage from where I was sitting, but I was crying by the end.

"Why can't the past just die?" and on leaves me in so many tears!
christinegrrl 3 months ago

@Evviex agreed!
