  • science and mysticism are starting to merge

  • this is a waste of money there is nothing on mars

  • @TheDarkjedi666 If you think that fundamental science and exploration is a waste of money, then please stop using your cell phone, your computer and most of the things that you rely on everyday. Until that day shut-up. Most of the modern technology that we use today came about because of fundamental research such as this. People who say they don't do science shouldn't be allowed to use the things it brought. Which is nearly everything in the modern world. Ignorance.

  • @TheDarkjedi666 " there is nothing on mars" Lets see: Clouds, snow, wind, dust devils, planet-wide dust storms, ice caps, ancient lakes, river and even ocean features, remnant magnetic fields, seismic and volcanic activity, massive volcanoes & huge canyons, dune and ice field formation & transport, frequent meteorite impacts, billions of years of geologic history preserved on the surface, liquid briny water underground & possibly sporadically on the surface, seasonal methane plumes +MUCH more.

  • Couldn't they just fit a brush to sweep the dust off?

  • Happy birthday, Opportunity! And yet another pat on the back for all the engineers involved - for the longest 90 day mission ever. :-)

  • i remember doing a report on opportunity and spirit 6 years ago! i cant believe opportunity is still going!

  • We need a moon base and a manned mission to mars! And we really need to build an international MOTHERSHIP. think about how awesome it would be to have a mothership that the shuttles and cargo transports could link up/refit/re supply in space. Ok GO!

  • @phiberoptick like... ISS :) ?

  • nasa = lucifers tool sellouts like jpl.

  • government hide secrets from you they dont like you they want you in prison they want you to kill other people in pre-planned wars they poison your kids' food, water and even skies. they profit from your pooresness and death they are the illuminati, on the dollar bill and everywhere in movies, music etc... they are here for decades.. and democracy means DICTARSHIP just like everywhere in the world regime.. people dont have the right to Select a president, just to vote burn the government = peace
  • Curiosity and Opportunity may never meet. What about Curiosity running into Spirit?

  • @thegroove2000 Stupid people usually hate science. It makes them feel so inferior, so they are intimidated by it.This is the reason why they lash out with hateful comments.

  • @theshadowify thanks for the reply, but you have not asked why that was my reaction, and I have quite a few rock solid reasons for why i typed that.

They just cant be trusted for accurate information.

  • @thegroove2000 They have the most accurate information of anybody, but no one is 100% accurate.

  • @theshadowify Science is in its infancy. There is a lot more going on that Scientists will never know, as they tend to put things into compartments, and only if they can measure something then they can say its there.

    Think beyond Science.

  • @thegroove2000 There is nothing beyond science.

  • @theshadowify Science is the study of whats already there. Science is essential, but will not answer all the questions. Mainstream science is really behind on many things.

  • @thegroove2000 Just what is mainstream science behind on??

  • NASA can you please jumpstart the space program soo we can actually make space relivent. Just tell the people higher up that you have discovered alot of Oil on MARS.

  • @captcaveman4201

    LOLLOLOL THATS GREAT!!

  • should have installed a broom on that thing to clean solar panels :)

  • GO TEAM "OPPORTUNITY!"

    MARS IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR!

  • @mundoovni simple answer: dust devils, also known as small tornadoes.

  • There is truly Life on Mars... you give the Red Planet a Heartbeat, Opportunity! WoW!

  • star wars in 3d will be out in cinema soon.

  • there is ice in mars, if there is ice, there must be life and habitable place.

  • Awesome! I wonder how many rovers will be on the red planet in 10 years.?

  • @RRando17 Hopefully a few with humans personally driving them. And I dont mean remotely.

  • This is very strange, the opportuniny was designed to work for 8 months, and now is working 8 YEARS! This is not normal. NASA said that opportuniny´s solar pannels will be covered of Mars´ dust, and they won´t receive the solar energy 8 months after landing. So, WHO OR WHAT CLEAN THE SOLAR PANELS? Please NASA answer to me!

  • @wo262 Well, I think it will break hanging in the ropes before landing. But I hope I´m wrong...

Can´t understand why they chose such an overly complicated landing procedure that was never tested completely.

  • @Upuauta Nothing scares me more about the mission than that insane landing sequence. Please let it work mother nature!

  • @Upuauta Because if this "overly complicated landing procedure" actually works out, they have a way to put more "fragile" equipment on the planet in the future.

  • @Upuauta I have the same concern. When i saw the animation of the landing, the only thing that came to mind was the million and one ways that can go wrong. If just one of them ropes gets tangled or does not unlatch... game over.

The giant rubber superball method seems the best way. Just drop it and let it bounce until it stops. Curiosity is probably too large to do that though. We'll have to just cross our fingers and hope for the best.

  • "No chance of them ever meeting up"

One day they will be side by side in a museum on Mars!

  • 'No change they will ever meeting up' I'll say, go for it.. just drive!

  • happy birthday

  • why didnt you put a dust brush for the arm to dust off the solar panels

  • @chrisw40 They where not designed for a 6 year long mission...

  • Congratulations and happy anniversary Oppy! My hope is that humans on earth will find ways to make your amazing images more widely available. There is a great 100' long mural of 6' high lunar surface photos in Houston's downtown tunnel system. It would be great if we had something comparable based on the Mars rover images.

  • JPL you're amazing and competent, I love what you guys do!!

  • If it was a child, it would be in 4th grade.

  • Happy B-Day oppy! For everyone involved and those following Way to go! Wooot Humans!

  • An amazing achievement.

  • A very happy birthday oppy. As impressive as voyager in many respects
