I've posted on other songs before, I just heard this song today. So sad. I lost my husband, the father of my two small children suddenly and oh so fast. To those of you who have their spouses, cling tight, never go without saying you love them. You never know when they will be gone. @TheWitchWay That's the amazing things about songs and literature, there is no concrete. For you it means death, for other's it means something else. It is not your position to tell someone to find a song better suited to their experiences because for other's it is perfectly suited to their feelings. Losing someone is harder, but break-ups can feel like a smaller version of that. How are you to judge how other's feel. Get a grip and quit trying to be a keyboard warrior and judging other people.

For your information, Shakespeare wrote 'Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day' for a MAN. However, that doesn't mean that other's can use it in whatever relationship they are in whether with man or a woman. It doesn't negate it's greatness as literature. So what if this song is about death? For other's it is about a breakup.

@TheWitchWay - Songs pull different emotions through different people. Personally, I like the song bc of a breakup. yes, its about death, but its about LOSS. Dont hate. Music is about connection and you shouldnt tell people that they cant compare a song or like it just because the lyrics dont fit their experiance 100%. Who are you? The music nazi?

I don't wish to discount anyone's sense of loss due to a breakup, but the loss in this song is about more than a breakup. "When they see me 'round here talkin' to this stone" is a reference to her being at a cemetary talking to her recently deceased husband's gravestone. The "left so fast" indictates it was sudden, and unexpected.

That is not to say that this song does not speak to those who have gone through a break up, but it is important to realize the depth of this song.

I just heard this song for the first time and it hit home. I know you can take your own meanings out of songs but I take the meaning to mean her husband died (references to talking to a stone, being so lucky to have had the chance to haved loved this much, ect) and it reminds me of lots of things I thought of and felt after my fiance died and I was finding my way of moving forward. I love this song and this video even though it makes me cry a little. Sometimes you need songs that make you cry

Love the poignant detail in this video - the autumn leaves, the deserted swing, the abandoned croquet game, the beautiful room with all the dead flowers, the wedding dress hanging up, his rack of clothes, the pearl neckless he gave her that falls apart.
