  • Rest in peace Kurt! He just today turned to 45...

  • This really, really sounds like something Kurt would have thought up.

  • I heard that the drinking too much was about Krist, but I don't remember where I read that so I don't know how credible of a source that is. I think that makes since. I know he wrote this song while living in the same one room apartment with Kurt, right after joining the band, and I suppose it would make sense to write about both of the band members, not just Kurt. As much as he liked Kurt, I don't think he ever had a facination about him, enough so to write a full song about him before he died

  • Kurt, we love and miss you, for ever and ever ever ever...

  • the Pocketwatch version is way better. /watch?v=qJx0ajRjiDg

  • This is the only Foo Fighters song about Nirvana, I don't even consider it Foo Fighters, it's Dave because he wrote back in like 1992 I think.

  • @ItsAwesomeMan I Should Of Known on Wasting Light was somewhat about Nirvana/Kurt. Or so they said in their documentary.

  • @BeastBlackhawk07 No, he said that it has references to Dave's past, which might have included Nirvana, but it isn't about them directly.

  • @ItsAwesomeMan Well then, I stand corrected.

  • This song was on Late!'s album "Pocketwatch".

  • I knew this was about Kurt when I first heard it.

    "When he plays....No-one speaks..." <3

  • Does anyone else notice that this song's style is much more like Nirvana's than Foo Fighters?

  • @smileformenow82 because it was recorded in 1990 by dave then released it on cassette under the name Late! and called the album Pocketwatch

  • This song is about dave starting his acoustic guitar and song writing.

"It was his friends guitar" meaning kurts because he was staying with kurt at the time

Dave says this in a few interviews. Btw this is my opinion

  • I just love this song. Its so beautiful and sung with so much passion. I just cant get enough of it.

  • Seriously, people... Not EVERY Foo Fighter's song is about Kurt Cobain and I really doubt this one is about him, either. No disrespect to Kurt, though. I loved Nirvana. <3

  • @HuggingAfruitBat Yeah, but this one actually is about Kurt. It was originally written in 1990, so it had nothing to do with what came later.

  • @HuggingAfruitBat this is one of the very few songs dave has specifically mentioned he wrote about kurt cobain, most of his other songs he claims aren't or just lets people wonder. what's odd about this song is he wrote it very shortly after first meeting cobain, so the depth of emotion and sadness in it and astounding, almost foreshadowing their future.

  • @HuggingAfruitBat he says "nevermind" and no one speaks. its clearly about kurt, but its one of the very few that is

  • @jdwilson99 this song is from 91-92. It's on Pocketwatch. The "he" is Dave Grohl, Kurt's the friend that loaned him the guitar.

  • It's okay Dave you'll see Kurt very soon, trust me

  • @crazidoode Hopefully not too soon...

  • @crazidoode WTF LOOOOOL!!!!!

  • @crazidoode lol what is that suppose to mean?

  • He says nevermind....

  • Kurt...

  • Headed over to Gwinnett Arena to watch them now :) Just wanted to hear this song before leaving...

  • Every time I hear this song, I get chills ...

  • It's really like a fortune telling...

    Amazing.

  • Gimme chills =X

  • He says nevermind

    And no-one speaks

    <3

  • I'm keep saying: if spaceships would fly with misuc, these guys would be sitting on the edge of the known universe since a while...

  • Good memories! :)

  • Early song writing from Grohl was only an early signal for what greatness was to become.

  • The guitar part is so Nirvana this songs awesome and it's only 0:35 in haha LONG LIVE THE FOO FIGHTERSSS!!!

  • thumbs down, not for the song, but for that god damn preroll add they stick in front of it. This shit is ruining youtube. I HATE COMMERCAILS!!!

  • PLEASE CHECK MY COVER OF THIS SONG, THANKS! watch?v=oc3aktpVk8Y

  • @runescapesupersaiyin That was the Foo Fighters first album. Razor and Friend Of A Friend are from In Your Honour, the Foo Fighters fourth album. Friend Of A Friend were written about the other members of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic. Kurt was quiet and poor, hence the verses about quiet rooms and secondhand guitars. Krist drank a lot, hence the verse about drinking too much. Hope this helps!

  • amazing

  • Why do people complain about views and hate "You know who" because his video has more views then Nirvana's video or some other video...don't bother with it do it as Kurt would do it... NEVERMIND that

  • @kirakaye yeah the riff is so similar O.o

  • my old boss made a good point when he told me, why the fuck should i care what the song is about? as long as its good and i like it ill just stick to enjoying it, not ruining my time trying to figure out a meaning

  • well thats pretty cool! although its been many years ago but my opinion on things i dont know a whole lot about if anything is hes lost alot of fun wild times and a great life he once had since that was taken away! not sayin his life is not great now but it was a major change! anyways that was many years ago! thank you for your reply reguarding my curiosity

  • Does anyone even know what dave oir kris which one was the bass player for nirvana? does anyone know what he does these days? is he even still in a band? or did he loose the fame and lives the normal life?

  • @purhrtd - Krist Novaselic is involved in politics for the most part these days. Not as an elected official, but he's still politically involved. He was in a couple of small bands after Nirvana (Eyes Adrift and Sweet 75), but other than that and jamming with people occasionally (he recently played with the Foo Fighters at a small show in LA I think it was), he's not doing much music these days.

  • Yeahh he does have a lot to do with politics but as a matter of fact he is in an old grunge band I cant recall the name of them now but they came before Nirvana and he plays bass for them now soo yes he is still involved in music just not in the headlines such as Dave Grohl here, I think they are called something do with a fish tho and man he is balding bad! :P

  • @BCOLE1992 FLIPPER?!?!

  • Kurt forever in my heart.... <3

  • I love the 'he says nevermind' part..

  • ok this has so much Nirvana in it its not even funny even more <3

  • I'm really crying

    perfect song

I love Kurt , Dave and Krist

    NIRVANA FOREVER

  • @yael3010 Um..... You do realise that this is a Foo Fighters song and only Dave is in Foo Fighters so maybe you should post that on a Nirvana song. No offence, I love Nirvana too but this is't the right place.

  • @RyanSTH94 I wrote this bc the song is about them

and I love Foo Fighters too (:

  • @yael3010 I really don't think that the song is about them... everyone say that all the Foo's songs are bout Nirvana, so don't blindly believe them. But now that I know the reason, fair enough! Carry on...

  • @RyanSTH94 Dave said it's about them , there are interviews of him telling the story

  • Comment removed

  • @423musicfan it's about Kurt and Chris .. soooooo ..

  • Comment removed

  • the version on pocketwatch is a lot better, it has a deeper feel to it

  • @Sabored - I totally agree. A lot more raw, and more feeling to it. Not much mroe than this version, but still a bit more, IMO.

  • It's weird - it's pretty obvious this song was written about Kurt (and maybe Krist too, but I always think of Kurt when I hear it) yet the only album that Dave has confirmed that has some 'Nirvana' in it was Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace ...

  • it could be about kurt but its been like almost 20 years dont you thank that dave may be over it ...... thank about it

  • @mrXXrauf182XX omg, daveen said so himself its about kurt and krist, its also pretty obvious..btw he wrote it while he was still in nirvana so yuh..think about it.

  • @mrXXrauf182XX You think someone would just get over the fact that a very dear friend of theirs killed themselves?

  • 4 justin beiber fans

  • 123,456 viewer :D

  • "He's never been in love

But he knows just what love is

    He says nevermind

    And no-one speaks"

That is about Kurt Cobain. I don't know if the rest is.

  • @TheOfficialRoseEmran

'He thinks he drinks too much

Coz when he tells his two best friends

"I think I drink too much"

    No one speaks'

I reckon this bit's about Krist Novoselic, as he was an alcoholic during Nirvana days

  • I know it may not fit in but I can just imagine Dave sitting and singing in like an average hotel room and Kurt is playing the guitar in the background almost transparent like a ghost. to me its cool but like i said it may not fit in.

  • I think I drink too much.

  • just learned this on guitar. easy but very powerful.

    love it

  • DEAR ALL ROCK AND NIRVANA FANS, FEBRUARY 20TH IS KURT COBAIN'S BIRTHDAY. THAT DAY WE WILL ALL VISIT THE "SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT" VIDEO, LIKE IT, AND WISH HIM A HAPPY BIRTHDAY. NOT ONLY WILL IT PAY BACK RESPECT TO HIM, IT WILL ALSO HELP NIRVANA GET TO THE TOP OF YOUTUBE AGAIN. THUMBS UP THIS COMMENT AND REPOST THIS ON ANY NIRVANA OR ANY ROCK VIDEO.

  • "...He thinks he drinks too much"

lol, THAT line is definately Krist. He was apparently drunk all the time in the earlier Nirvana days.

  • 1st two vereses about Kurt, the other two about krist, yes?

  • @AdamVanHalen1 I think the first is for Kurt, the second for Krist, the third for Kurt, and then the fourth for Krist.

  • Kurt started often saying "nevermind" in the end of 1993...so i think Dave wrote down this after Kurt's death...even if i don't understand "he thinks he drinks too much" cause Kurt didn't drink much....it was Krist....

  • @yukarishingame dave wrote this while living with kurt so he couldnt of wrote it after kurts death, and it is about kurt AND krist hence him singing "he thinks he drinks too much"

  • i know i drink too much, but no one speaks...

  • @D3ltaRnDyNewMan hahaha

  • Perfect song to remember Cobain...

  • i wish somehow i could have met kurt, i feel we had alot in common, if only

  • @leerey14 i feel the exact same way man

  • @cheeseinyerhole i actually look a little like him 2 lol except younger

  • @leerey14 thats really hot

  • @leerey14 Kurt is a real inspiration for me. i think we had alot in common too.

The things he said was true. May he rest in peace.

  • ur wrong, it has the same haunting effect, but completely different song.

  • Sigh.

why this video doesn't get 1m views?

  • This song was written in tribute of kurt cobain

  • @DEADMANDX2000 no dave wrote it when he met kurt and krist, it was his first impressions of them

  • Hello, we are an acoustic duo which are very much inspired by this album of the foo fighters all of them infact, however, this album the most, because we love to play acoustic music please check us out on our channel and subscribe if you like us :)

  • why did kurt leave idk him but i miss him RIP

  • i feel like shit now this video makes me cry when im drunk ahh

  • my favorite foo fighters song now

  • He says nevermind....

  • This is off of Dave Grohl's solo Album under the name "Late!". the album is called Pocketwatch. The whole album is fucking awesome

  • this very much reminds me of 'something in the way'...

  • @corpsemunger It does have that tone, I agree.

  • Very sad stuff :(

  • Comment removed

  • @RaeCafe cheer up :)

  • Kurt Cobain

  • the song is 100% about kurt or nirvana

  • i was under the name GodIHateStupidPpl

  • This song was written in 1990 when Dave first meet Kurt and Kris. Its about his first impressions of them..

  • @hetro27 i wrote that like three weeks ago lol

  • @hetro27 how could he have made the nevermind reference? it was actually written in 1994.. but that's cool.. i like making things up on the internet too.

  • @HamiltonSuperRecords This song was first recorded in 1990 and Nevermind was released in 1991... so I is completely feasible that Nevermind could have been a saying among friends who were later going to release an album called nevermind. perhaps it just resonated with Grohl at the time. Or maybe I like making people feel like they are stupid for no reason because I have the internet as a curtain to hide behind. Just be decent about it and write what you did without the last line.

  • @HamiltonSuperRecords it was written in 1990 about his first impressions of his band mates.Do even some slight research and you would find that out but oh no instead like millions of other people you criticise other people and right jack ass comments rather than enjoy the fooz 4 the great band that they are.Its just stupid

  • @HamiltonSuperRecords it was 1990 mate and released in 92, he wrote it on kurts guitar and its the first song he wrote with the intention of being an acoustic song, the nevermind referance is not a referance to the album as far as i know because i have never read anywhere or heard dave saying he added it in at a later date and ive heard him talk about the song many times, youd think he would say if he did

  • This song is a bit the same as something in the way from nirvana

  • this song's obviously about dave felling guilty

  • he says in a concert..this was his first ever acoustic song, he wrote it about kurt + krist when him + kurt were living together..and also explains that nirvanas song 'sappy' WAS for kurts turtles..after dave told kurt they were unhappy. i <3 this song.

  • @Jinxedwithme

no sappy was written way before dave came, and had a much deeper meening

  • this is my song when i am pissed off and trying to calm down, i just turn it on my Stereo or Laptop and just veg while its on repeat, its a soft and depressed song and it helps to think.

this is my favorite Foo Song and i think it always will be

  • long live Nirvana.

    long live Kurt.

  • this even sounds like a nirvana song (sorta)

  • "his two best friends" :'( soooo sad.

  • part of everything dave writes is about kurt to him

  • How about everyone stop talking about what this song means to Dave (which you'll never know) and talk about what it means to you :)

  • @desmurfenzijnblauw

This song reminds me of a friend i have, he taught me how to play guitar and so i played this song to honor him ahah

  • In reference to this song being about Kurt in an interview: "Yes, I'd just moved in with Kurt. I didn't know anybody. I had a drum set packed in one box and flew up there. I would stay up till the sun came up and sleep all day. Olympia, Washington, is fucking depressing enough and I was living with this person that I didn't know. But he had a four-track so I wrote songs: Marigold and Friend Of A Friend. It was an observation of Kurt and Krist and I." -David Grohl

  • this song is really good and i just learned on guitar today !!!!!

  • dave is calling himself an alcoholic guys.... he wrote this when he was 20 it's about himself, before Kurt was dead

  • @Rydoggy206 ...yeah, that just about sums it up.

he was probably talking about him playing Kurt's guitar, and talking to Kurt and Krist...

  • @Rydoggy206 finally someone who knows there shit

  • Can some one tell me who kurt is or whatever because i wanna know and i'm listening this sing and also razor and other songs its awesome but idk who they are , and who's s singing and whos alive or not and whos whos friend ? X_X plz tell meh

  • @runescapesupersaiyin I'd suggest you read go to wikipedia and look up Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl, and Kurt Cobain.

  • @runescapesupersaiyin This is sung by Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. It's about Kurt Cobain, the frontman for Nirvana who committed suicide. Dave Grohl was the drummer in Nirvana before he started the Foo Fighters.

  • @MalachiteR actually dave grohl has said in his book "nothing to lose'' that it is not about kurt cobain

  • Comment removed

  • @runescapesupersaiyin Kurt Cobain was the lead singer, guitar player, and primary songwriter of Dave Grohl's first band that became mega-successful. That band was called Nirvana. Dave Grohl played drums for Nirvana. In April of 1994, Kurt Cobain was found dead at 27 in his home of a self-inflicted shotgun wound. About eight months after Kurt's unfortunate passing, Dave released a tape of himself performing his favorite songs that he had written in the past.

  • Comment removed

  • "He needs a quiet room With a lock to keep him in" Kurt always needed a quiet and empty room to create and play his music.

"He plays an old guitar" Kurt used to play cheap shitty guitars.

"Cause when he tells his two best friends" He's now talking about himself and Krist, Kurt's best friends.

"When he plays, no one speaks" Everyone respects him, and everyone loved when Kurt played and when he was singing.

"He says nevermind" Kurt's approach to life..

I'm sure This song is about Kurt Cobain

  • i saw an interview where dave says he heard cobain playing this in the other room, but didn't know anyone was home. he decided to use this and just added his own lyrics. it's funny the first time i heard this i thought this sounds like something cobain would write. beautiful song.

  • so much raw emotion in this song.

  • @MrCockSlut Your name made me lawls... and I also agree haha.

  • Hello my name is Jimmy Pop and I'm a dumb white guy...!

  • "he tells his two best friends" --> Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic

    RIP Kurt, Nirvana 4EVER

  • @joaoa13portugal

wrong, he tells his two best friends->Kurt and Dave, Krist was the one who drank too much.

    Portugal crlh.

  • @Franlop3z thanks for the correction

  • R.I.P The Mighty K.C

  • Am I only person who finds this song very similar to the Nirvana's Something In The Way?

P.S. Wikipedia says that this song was written by Dave in 1992 in which he expressed his thoughts and feelings about his new friends and Nirvana's members - Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain.

  • @TurttleManiac VERY similarr indeed!

  • @TurttleManiac I THOUGHT EXACTLY THE SAME. And a tiny little bit of Big Long Now.

  • @TurttleManiac if u mean how Kurt first recorded something in the way as similar than yes cause Kurt locked himself in a quiet studio with a bunch of microphones around him and everyone held there breath because he had to sing it soo low

  • @TurttleManiac it only sounds like it, cause of how far apart the frets are. Not to mention the strum pattern is similar. But in my opinion, it's a very beautiful song.

  • @TurttleManiac don't use Wikipedia as a reference...

  • @TheJoeSaw lol ikr xD

  • @TurttleManiac i do get it it does sound similar but their played totally different on the guiitar

  • great song.

  • its probablly bout a lil of all of his friends...cuz i know in an interview dave said this song isnt dedicated to kurt this whole album is dedicated to his best friend while growing up that died

but i cant deny it sounds like he threw in some cobain memories in that song but even than its not bout kurt or kurt alone

  • @zhotai77 Dave Grohl admitted that it's about when he first moved in with Kurt Cobain in that really shitty apartment when they first met.

  • why have i never heard this before? its beautiful </3

  • this song is great, i own all the foo's albums but for some reason i never remember hearin this...

  • well whatever nevermind

  • R.I.P. KC

  • Nirvana and Foo fighters, two great bands. (But still nirvana is better)

  • @388bobek for me too!!!

  • @388bobek and always will until the end . . .

  • T^T great

  • R.I.P. Kurt...

  • This and Razor are the best tracks on the Disc
