  • Great film. One of my favourites.

  • @tranurse @scientific82

There was a blight, sure, but over a million hard working farmers, hunters, laborers and fishers died of hunger and the following diseases caused on an island surrounded by water, think about it.

No, it wasn't the blight that cut down over a million of the Irish, it was the afterward imposed regulations, laws, curfews, economic manipulations, disallowance of relief, etc., used by a psychotic from England who wanted to prove God's curse was upon the Irish (and other m

  • Mr. Tulkinghorn takes command!

  • from @09:16 i ve heard older people talk about what the "Black+tans" did. Only when you watch like here it shows what it was like those days :O

  • from @ 08:01 you can see the type of propaganda they had in those days !

  • "some Belfast efficiency is what ye need" BOOOM!! Lol

  • @05:00

This guy was probably based on the real-life Detective Inspector Redmond from Belfast. He was shot the day he arrived in Dublin after berating members of the Dublin Metropolitan Police for failing to catch Collins. It was after that they had to bring in the Cairo Gang of British intelligence agents, who suffered the same fate.

  • i hope irish people regain northern ireland.

to understand what these british swine were doing in india pls chk "The New Nationalist Movement in India" By JABEZ T. SUTHERLAND written in 1908, u will find it if u copy paste the title in google.

  • Can people actually do a bit of research before they start bitching about things they dont have a clue about, the IRA from the 1900's and the modern day IRA are two CoMPLETELY different things, like theres no comparison..

  • Interesting Voldemort Thinks he can win a war without Eamon De Velera too lol

  • Thanks for putting this up I had to write a blasted paper on this...

  • "A bit of Belfast efficiency is what they need" *explosion*

  • Asdf! I like trains! :p

  • I love trains too . . .

  • "Some died for Ireland, but Dev whored for Ireland!"

  • im american and i admire the hell out of the IRA there soo badass! =)

  • Best part of the movie when they busted Dev out of prison

  • @jusstek They were the black and tans they were not an army they were a organisation set up to help the R.I.C . they where ex army vets and soldiers takin from prisons .

  • us all beter watch wat u say mick is muy ansestor

  • All the British were, and still are barbaric cunts

  • @JoesTubeCFC Dont know which I hate more - comments like these or the twats who type them

  • @JoesTubeCFC Thanks for that astutue and witty observation. You know all 60 million of us do you?

  • You stupid fenians never got the North. Almost 100 years of your terrorism and you still haven't defeated us.

    NO SURRENDER

  • @LordWellington15 Maybe not the irish, but yes the brave Irak people to defeat the british army. Wait. ¿However destroy Argentina two ships of the invincible fleet? Supossed a picnic. the british empire is fallen.

  • @APRINCESSTALE At least we had an Empire, and its no fallen. Ever heard of the Commonwealth?

  • @LordWellington15 why would any nation boast about having an empire?

  • @TomBarry192I Hmm lets see, you have lots of land, you have people under your rule, you introduce new ideas to those people, those people adapt to your ways, you cooperate with those people, its one big happy family. Unlike you fenians who just own some beer and potatoes

  • @LordWellington15 Britain terrorised the globe killing millions, and sucked the life out of poor countries to gain wealth. Britain hadn't the balls to stand on its own two feet.

  • @TomBarry192I Killing millions, hahahaha!!!! First of all the countries were poor to begin with. For example in India, the Muslims and Hindus were butchering each other, there was no land that was safe. Then the British came, and stop all the fighting. And the Muslims and Hindus and Sikhs learned to cooperate, and many joined the ranks of the British army. Then they kicked us out, and then resumed their butchering, now you see why India and Pakistan are so screwed up. Learn your history.

  • @LordWellington15 Over 30 million Indians died due to british imperialism. Learn your history

  • @TomBarry192I You are wrong. It wasnt us, it was a famine that occurred. Learn your history

  • @LordWellington15 Britain used the famine to kill 30 million due to their inaction.

  • @TomBarry192I 30 000, LOL! Now your just multiplying. Maybe 1 million tops. But the famine was no result of us. And we were still exporting to increase our money that we earned to help the communities that were effected by the famine. If we do not have some sort of source for getting money, how are we supposed to help?

  • @LordWellington15 Im talking about 30 million in India, 1 million were wiped out in Ireland.

  • @TomBarry192I First of all, both famines were of natural causes, so I dont see how you can place the blame on the British.

  • @LordWellington15 there was no famine in ireland and people were still wiped out. I dont know about India but at least 29 million due to the british ending famine relief.

  • @LordWellington15 you certainly cannot blame the british for the potato blight, but i think they can be blamed for the response, or lack there of.

  • you can't blame the british for the potato blight, but you can blame them for the response, or lack there of. i'm not irish, my ancestors were british and welsh.

  • @tranurse Completely agree with you. I'm, technically, English but my family and ancestors are Northern Irish and I think that pretty much all of Ireland's problems arose from British maltreatment, misunderstanding and heavy-handed responses. It's times like that when I am not proud of England.

  • @tranurse I agree you cant blame them for the blight. But to step up exports of food at a time when a 4th of the population was starving to death was beyond cruel.

  • @scientific1982 exactly what i said. the response to it, ie taking all the food away was just horrible.

  • @LordWellington15 i'm not british, but weren't the farmers pretty much run off the land, and what food that was grown was sent to england???

  • @tranurse No, the Irish worked on the land. They kept some of the food, while some paid for the rent.

  • @LordWellington15 i figure it was pretty much like sharecropping here in the south. the landlords took the land, rented it back to the people at highly inflated prices, which means they got the good crops and the people who lived and farmed basically had to grow subsistence crops like potatoes. which when the blight hit, they didn't have enough to eat and they still had to give the good stuff to the landlords. i figure there was a reason for the exodus to the states.

  • @LordWellington15 my ancestors were sent to the us by cromwell also, much like i guess yours were sent to northern ireland. we were northern english presbyterians, not scottish, who really didn't want to become puritans i figure that jonathon swift wasn't making things up. things were horrible in ireland for the irish. i also figure that the protestants have been in the north for 500 years or so, so they aren't leaving. i figure both sides share the blame in northern ireland.

  • @LordWellington15 u murdered in man made famines, i am glad u r getting pay back now wid blasts in london and riots.

  • @LordWellington15 u dumb brit mofo, india was one of the richest lands & thts y u brit scum came there in 1st place, go chk angus maddison's historical gdp estimates by country and when u brit scum came hindus were regaining their lands frm muslim imperialism which u put an end to & helped create pakistan, now u scum r paying the price wid ur soldiers getting killed in afghan & pakis rioting in bradford, its only gonna get worse for u brit boy & trust me we haven't forgot all those...

  • Anyone find it funny that Alan Rickman gets roles of characters with unusually large noses?

  • I have both Irish and English heritage - but as an Aussie I deal with my constanty hating myself by bitching about everything and drinking a bit more than necessary. Ireland, if you want independence, you first need to unify. Find a way to be Irish instead of being separated by Catholic and Prodestant. Come on, be Irish! Is it really that hard? You were all Irish before the Romans invaded right?

  • @verticalsmurf dude,you know nothing bout reality...or history.

romans never invaded Ireland, and Irish people are fighting for union for decades.

  • @MirLjudima - A fail on my part, apologies, Romans didn't invade Ireland.

  • @verticalsmurf Isn't easy if you would just piss off and let the North be. The North is forever British.

  • @feralfury: are you serious dude. the guys at waco were a cult. the branch davidians were a group of fanatical pedophiles who were stpid enough to try and shoot at the well trained agents and died because of it.

  • "All I'm missing is the high heels!" (Alan Rickman's best quote in the film) xD

  • wtf yo these men are straight up terrorists.

  • @ruthangelina who is a terrorist

  • @ruthangelina They gave Ireland a republic and rid us of the Imperialist yolk!! Yes, in post 9/11 rhetoric people call them terrorists, but back then that was the only option to gain a hard won freedom.

  • @ruthangelina em sorry but if your comparing us these guys to those scallywags in iraq and northern ireland no we did what was nescerry for freedome.

  • Tans burning.what a beautiful sight

  • 1:19

Knowing what Alan Rickman looks like, I'd say his nose is VERY hard to hide (that wasn't an insult, I'm a huge fan)

  • One of the several problems with this film is that not everything happened outside the GPO!

  • I love when they burn the tan bastards. Well fukin done.

  • Charles Dance aswell!

  • 5:03 How did they make carbombs in this time period? I'm curious.

  • That wasent a car bomb. that was a very small, verywell timed ,very pin point accurate motar shell. Honestly, my friend Peter Kelly's great grandfather fired it from across the street :)

  • boland was named as envoy to the u.s before the war of independence started,Thats why he went not because Dev was trying to split him up from collins.I like this movie but alot of historical inaccuracies.

  • @soukupb why does that not surprise me

  • @soukupb actually, a bunch of terrorists are not welcome here. just like al qaeda, the udl, and any of the rest of them.

  • @tranurse IRA are not terrorist get your facts straight.

  • @soukupb anyone who shoots up a pub, kills busloads of people, kills people in the dead of night, blows up buildings or cars, is pretty much a terrorist. but like they say, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. army against army is one thing, going after civilians is quite another. lord mountbatton's grandson wasn't a soldier. and if you notice in my original response, i added the ulster defense league to my description of terrorists.

  • @tranurse I belevie the IRA only attacked those that supported British rule in Ireland. Kind of like what happend during the American Revolution when Loyalist to the British Crown were found. And none of that comes close to the attrocities commited by British soldiers on the Irish people. Ireland has the right too live free and as much as i love the UK they dont have the right to keep them under oppresion and deny them there freedom.

  • @soukupb louis mountbatton was 11 years old. the people shopping in omagh weren't soldiers. face it, both sides hated each other and did horrible things.

  • @soukupb thank you sir

  • @soukupb When I was in belfast, the IRA murdered a man whose crime was taking a job as a janitor in a police station after being unemployed for several years. They said he was "supporting the enemy". He was trying to feed his family. Fuck the IRA.

  • @tranurse and i can remember having to run out of a pub in bristol about 22 years ago. i was a just a kid visiting over my spring break. apparently, there was an ira bomb threat called in. the police came and made all of us leave. luckily, they found the bomb that time. so excuse me, if i don't think highly of the ira.

  • @soukupb only in the north in the south we support ulster and loyalism

  • @lestat1591 Only `cause you`ve never had it forced down your throat like Northern Ireland has !

  • @soukupb ,who are you, the "voice" of a nation???

  • 5:03 lol there's a guy flying away from the explosion. Like something out of a cartoon.

  • "pretend your a whore" lol

  • Its true Dev didnt Want Collins taking the Rep. Without him. plus in the 70's the IRA had a hit out for Dev, they planted a bomb but it blow up to soon.

  • "I'll take you home again...KATHLEEN!" XD <3

  • the bomb with some car attached was fuckin awsome!

  • `yea ya fuckin black n tan cunts. BURN I HOPE U BURN IN HELL YA FAGGITS

  • I'm English but I have literally nothing to do with the problems in Ireland. From these comments I would assume I'm still automatically hated...which is a little unfair because I find Irish History really interesting :P

  • @Slypaperclips Unfortunately hollywood and the film industry in general is full of anti-british films. It seems the only group not protected from bigotry and racism are the british.

  • thank god for subtitles. i can't unnerstan a fookin word thar seyen!

  • Nope, Phily. The Nazis are those pimpled-minded murderers from Sinn Fein/IRA - racist, fascist killers of children. Supporting IRA is like crying whore to your own sister and mother. And hypocrisy is their chief speciality after murder.

  • @Jacobitejim No, sinn fein and the ira are both politically correct movements to end foreign occupation in our country

get your facts right and shut ur mouth u biggot

  • @forkhillman - my facts are right. Sinn Fein/IRA are murderers. The bigotry, alas, is all yours.

  • @Jacobitejim Before the treaty, the IRA were NOT a terrorist organisation. They were an army. It was only after the treaty that they became pointless and terrosrists. If it weren't for the IRA and Sinn Féin, we'd probably still be part of the UK. But don't take my word for gospel, all I've got iss junior cert history and my dad, who is very good at Irish history.

  • @saphira1001 - your own grasp of Irish history is poor (I can't speak for your dad). An army is not legitimate in international law unless it is formed by a sovereign authority. Before the Treaty, the IRA did not have any such legitimacy. As a matter of fact, it represented none but a small minority, it carried out terrorist acts against innocent civilians (as most terrors groups do) and was no more than a parcel of murderous thugs egged on by a few misguided intellectuals.

  • @Jacobitejim And if they hadn't been there, we wouldn't be a republic.

  • @saphira1001 - So that justifies murder, does it, genius? yeah, right.

  • @Jacobitejim Look, getting rid of the British was probably the best thing we ever did. END OF STORY

  • @saphira1001 even as an objective student of history its hard to argue with that- then again im half Irish- and bloody proud of it!

  • @Jacobitejim killers of children what about the kids murdered by loyalists remember the quinn brothers burnt in there beds because protestants could not walk down a road must i mention holy cross throwing bombs at kids also through the troubles the republicans killed 21 children out of 153 killed you do the math also facist and racist is it catholics who attack chinese polish and romainian homes no its protestants and also loyalist connections to national front its protestants that are racist

  • @carsieplg - you seriously think that you are justified in murdering children just because some other bunch of Protestant or "loyalist" thugs have done so? If you really think that then either you are seriously sick or else you personify all that is ugly and evil in the republican cause.

  • @Jacobitejim no its not justified but things happen in conflict that shouldnt but it happens now on the quinns the night before there deaths ian paisley called for the protestant people to rise up and they went and burnt three kids in there beds so do you think its justified killing thousands of kids in iraq and afghanistan the british army killed more kids during the troubles than loyalists and rebuplicans put togather is that justified

  • @carsieplg - if you cannot tell the difference between murder and self-defence in war, then God help you. You are already half way to being a criminal. Murders by loyalists are no better than those by republican nationalists. Both sides are murderers.

  • @Jacobitejim when was the first murder 1966 who done it uvf pira's first action 1970 protecting a church from being burnt to the ground that was 4 years after the first murder and a year after over 1500 catholics had to move after being burnt out you say murder is murder so every soldier of every war is a murderer then shut up

  • @Jacobitejim eh nazi's? the english where nazi's em lets take a look at the famine ireland was one big concentration camp full of work houses. deprived people of the land and possessions. Denying the rights of religion land and property.

  • @mickyc05 - Whatever bad things (and there were many) that the English Liberal government did during the Famine, they did not set up concentration camps. Nazi = national socialist, a philosophy which did not exist in the 19th C (doh!). Another point you overlook: the English declared war on, fought and defeated the Nazis. Irish republicans sided with the Nazis - Gerry Adams' father even guided the Nazi bombers onto Belfast to blow up his fellow Irishmen. Do try, Micky, not to be a complete fool.

  • @Jacobitejim irish republicans sided with the nazis is that why my grandad on the run for ira activity in 1936 went on to be a war hero for the british royal navy some republicans did however help the nazis in some ways but not guiding bombers but even some british helped them some americans fought for them even some of the royal family supported the nazis you make that comment like everyone knew of the bad things the nazis done it was only in late 1944 when it all started to come out

  • @carsieplg I would just like to say that I'm protestant and don't agree in the slightest with what Ian Paisley and his lot up the north have done. It's that crazy minority who should really be locked up that think what happened in the North was justified. No matter what you say, nothing can justify what the Paisleyites have done. You can't blame the republicans really because it was self-defense (I finally read that part of my history book! We didn't get time to read that bit in school).

  • @saphira1001 - Murder is not self-defence. Murder is murder. Plain and simple. And it is always wrong - whoever does it.

  • Is Dev actually Eamon de Valera?

  • yes, DEV = DE V(alera)

  • quite a coincidence the english attacking us and the germans attacking them and both of them are fascist nazi's to this day nazi's re alive and well in the english government except they dont wear swastika arm bands

  • oooh goodie the brave gallant black and tans jk dirty scum

  • 8:20 etc, are those the black and tans??

  • 9:40--9:45......Burn them. Burn them like their counterparts over here did to us at Waco......Remember Waco. Death to the empire. Power to the A.R.M.

  • You got it sir. Consider yourself added.

  • @Topnotch121 My father taught me that there's only two kinds of people in this world. The Irish and the ones that wish they were. Thanks for the vids. My heart hasn't been this warmed this much in a good long while.

  • @Topnotch121 Uh... you know the ARM is a white supremacist, far right American militia network, right?

  • 7:55.....So that's the black and tans eh? Kinda reminds me of the B.A.T.f....War on terror? Dept. of homeland security? .....Remember waco.......Power to the A.R.M.

  • When they blew the doors off for the film a huge piece of wood knocked out one of the stuntmen ha ha

  • does anyone know what part is it where the british shoot ppl at a football game??

  • thats bloody sunday in croke park.liam hogan was shot!

  • thems awfull big words 4 a belfast man, n by that i mean more than 3 syllables :-p

  • lol a bit of Belfast Proficiency, bless his heart.

  • Yeah Belfast Proficiency as they get blown up in a Car Bomb

  • 5:00 - lol

look at the man at the front of the car who gets blown away

  • Holy shit that's hilarious

  • the ira never actually used car bombs till the 70s lol

  • but that wasn't a car bomb, that was a bomb with a bit of car strapped onto it. semantics, I know..... :)

  • Good way of looking at it

  • Technically there is no proof of that. They had been using explosives for years, on trains and vehicles, so this could have happened. Although it is just a movie and thus unlikely
