James, how did you achieve such an intense field of depth perception in this video? It looks a lot different than your other videos. Did you use a DSLR, or do you have a new lens for whatever HDV cam you've been using? If so, which lens is it? Whatever it is, it looks great; somewhat film/cinematic like. Keep up the kick-ass-balls videos, thanks!
I would just like to point out that the Screw Attack website crashes my computer nearly every time I try and watch one of your videos on it. If it doesn't do that, the picture of the video freezes but the audio plays on. It's not just on my computer either, my brother and friends have issues too. :( It's really disappointing because I used to love watching your videos but now I just can't until you upload them to YouTube.

What he describes in this video is nothing really new. Companies with online content have offered minor bonus content for minor bonus subscriptions countless times...ESPN, SomethingAwful and RoosterTeeth just to name a few. It's not that outrageous of an idea. It's a reasonable business idea. They're opening themselves to an income stream without pressuring their fanbase. How can people find a reason to complain about that?
Three main points to listen and understand in this video.
1. James has made us amazing content that millions have enjoyed for free, for seven years, he deserves the donations.
2. He needs the the money to make the movie, the more fan supported, the more control he has over the direction of the movie.
3. OPTIONAL
Anyone who did not understand the three points just mentioned is utterly retarded and they should stay away from commenting before they make complete fools of themselves.
I think points 1 and 2, to me at least are contradictory. And i think you are being naive.
From his partnership with youtube, his association with Screwattack, Spike, Blip tv, and ad revenue from Cinemassacre, let me tell you that i am no accountant but that all adds up to thousands of dollars a day!
From ad revenue as a rough guide on cinemassacre he makes at least $300 a day.
He makes at least from his YT partnership $300,000 a year!
But my point was rather than basically...E-Begging people, if he REALLY really wants this film made, he should do the responsible thing and go to the bank, or take out all the money he can on his credit cards, i named Niall Johnson, as well as Kirk Jones, they both did that and are now successful.
For those 2 directors it was a risk, but a risk worth taking!

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" was nearly dead in the water until George Harrison donated the money to finish the film. Maxing your credit cards or groveling for investors may be the traditional way to raise money, but it's hardly the only option. And really, what's the difference between donors and investors? One contributes based on a profit motive, the other because they love the product.
I just think thats the most honest way of raising money. I have done this for theatre, and its near to impossible to find investors.
And to be honest, when i give the difference between donors and investors. They are more or less the same, as if you have the money to invest in a film, odds are that you will never see a penny of that investment.
And when i say donors, i sorta mean both, its money given altruistically, with no agreement of payment in return.

@Eltro920 actually I have seen a very good movie made for less then 500 thousand dollars, look at the Kevin Smith film Clerks for instance. Was a well done movie very well casted and was done for cheap, so just goes to show you, you can make a very well done film for cheap. BUT to make a movie in several locations, with big time effects yes it will take that million dollar budget.
I personally follow Archfiends approach to this, a responsible, interested, keen director takes the risk! Niall Johnson a fantastic writer/director took that risk, he took out all the money he could and made a film.
Now he is an accomplished successful writer and director!

What he describes in this video is nothing really new. Companies with online content have offered minor bonus content for minor bonus subscriptions countless times...ESPN, SomethingAwful and RoosterTeeth just to name a few. It's not that outrageous of an idea. It's a reasonable business idea. They're opening themselves to an income stream without pressuring their fanbase. How can people find a reason to complain about that?

From his partnership with youtube, his association with Screwattack, Spike, Blip tv, and ad revenue from Cinemassacre, let me tell you that i am no accountant but that all adds up to thousands of dollars a day!
From ad revenue as a rough guide on cinemassacre he makes at least $300 a day.
He makes at least from his YT partnership $300,000 a year!

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" was nearly dead in the water until George Harrison donated the money to finish the film. Maxing your credit cards or groveling for investors may be the traditional way to raise money, but it's hardly the only option. And really, what's the difference between donors and investors? One contributes based on a profit motive, the other because they love the product.

I just think thats the most honest way of raising money. I have done this for theatre, and its near to impossible to find investors.
And to be honest, when i give the difference between donors and investors. They are more or less the same, as if you have the money to invest in a film, odds are that you will never see a penny of that investment.
And when i say donors, i sorta mean both, its money given altruistically, with no agreement of payment in return.

It's nothing like windows movie maker, it's nothing like his 3 to 25-minute videos, it's nothing like cheap effects, it's nothing like the lack of locations world wide, and it's nothing like having only five people to the cast.
The lowest budget I've ever seen from a movie has never been less than a million dollars.

@Eltro920 actually I have seen a very good movie made for less then 500 thousand dollars, look at the Kevin Smith film Clerks for instance. Was a well done movie very well casted and was done for cheap, so just goes to show you, you can make a very well done film for cheap. BUT to make a movie in several locations, with big time effects yes it will take that million dollar budget.

I personally follow Archfiends approach to this, a responsible, interested, keen director takes the risk! Niall Johnson a fantastic writer/director took that risk, he took out all the money he could and made a film.
Now he is an accomplished successful writer and director!
If i wanted to make a film i would find investors, and fund what i could myself...
As it is, the people lending money are donors, not investors!

Also, "PROFIT!" as in "we steal all their moneys and with it we shall buy all the chocolate and video games we've ever wanted!"? No.
As well as supporting other things like screwattack to keep sites running ect. This also helps fund the avgn movie, the more the budget of the movie is made out of fan donations the more James has over the script and overall direction of the film.
