One of my all time favourite ballads ... still sends a shiver up the old spine ... haunting, and bittersweet melody and lyrics, with great vocal delivery ... a classic ! ... Wayne
Entered the Perth Western Australia charts at number 40 October 1 1968. Reached number 6 December 20. His best song. Haunting lyrics and great production
this song is just so beautiful, it brings a tear to my eyes, i just wanted to tell someone that i miss her and i have been tring to find her, only problem is i dont know if she is alive or dead, its the not knowing thats killing me
Haved loved hearing this again - thank you. A shame that outside Australia this song didn't receive the neceassary airplay that made it a hit and so memorable. Such a beautiful song.
Written by Norman Newell and Tom Springfield (who also wrote some great songs for The Seekers), there have been a number of versions of this great song, including by Judith Durham. However, the definitive version, for me, is by The Casuals - the group that hit with Jesamine in the 60s. There are foreign versions on You Tube - but check out the English language version - you'll love it.
I have searched for this song for year"s it was one of the first songs Dad used to listen to from Feliciano and it brings a lot of deep sentimental memories even when living in Japan I searched until last night suddenly I was speechless sitting in bed and right there in front of me I found it! thanks for all the people who share music in Youtube!!!!!!!!!! gracias Adios AMor...............................
Forgotten how much I loved this song. Since I discovered your posting yesterday have been playing in constantly. Such lovely if sad lyrics and wonderful music. Thank you so much.
I have loved this song for 41 years, ever since it was a hit here in Australia. With it's bitter/sweet lyrics, and Jose's rich and beautiful voice, what's not to love? From the first few bars, right through to the last notes, it is a stunning song. May God bless Jose. I was delighted to find this on Youtube. Thanks for posting .
I feel that the production of this wonderful Tom Springfield song could have been better. However Jose's voice is brilliant!

Had it played each night I tried to say goodbye to someone whose fiance returned home from duty.
The best farewell ever; 42 years on, it's still there.
