You can say what you want about this man, but he is cut from a different cloth. We could only dream of being as great as he. No one could speak as he did, no one could conduct the art of war like him. He lost fewer men in his pacific campaign from begining to end then Ike lost on day a little over 27,000 brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and US Marines sold their lives dearly. He elimanated. His men killed 10 Japanese for everyone of theres. "Hello, This is Bataan".
In my opinion, the Greatest American General the U.S. has ever produced.
The fall of the Philippines wasn't his fault; once Pearl Harbor was destroyed, he was cut off. Even the U.S. military admitted the Philippines could not be defended. His stand there remains a legend.
From the fields of France in WW I, to the port of Inchon, MacArthur showed his courage and his brilliance.
And let's not forget, he warned the Americans not to enter Vietnam.
well said, he covered more ground then Alexander the great, manuvered his men as if he were Napoleon and struck like Ghengis Khan. He is the greatest Warrior we have ever seen, upon his return to the states it was like Julius Ceasar returning to Rome, no man conquered so much realestate with so few casulaties. aproximately 27,000 G.I.s and Marines fell in battle under Mac as opposed to D-Day june 6 28,000 feel under ike.
Nice moment, but as I recall, this was just a photo op! He was flown in to come ashore. Some active participation in the fighting might have endeared him more to me! And who is to answer for the mistakes he made leading to the "fall" of the Phillipines. Quite a costly comeback in my mind! (But what else was to be done?) Leaders never learn the lesson that they must be "ahead" of the curve, not scrambling to recover from behind it. But let the dead rest.
Driving around Los Angeles (and Southern California) these days, one would think we actually LOST World War II! Is this really what American service men fought and died for? best wishes
He was on the Beach 4 hours into the invasion, he was on every beach he invaded. American soldiers saw him and couldnt believe it. He may have been a prima donna, he may have lost The Archipelogo but if you do your research you would know that it was written off the time the Japanese landed, his only mistake was not flying his fighters in shifts and not taking his food stores to the Bataan line, keep in mind Percival with a much larger force surrended in a week.
He grew up on the great speeches of human history. Before teevee children used to be required to memorize great speeches. It made grooves in their brains. You know...? Maybe the essential thing about Obama's speech-making is that he was denied teevee in his most formative years. Instead he read the great literature of American history. Just a thought.

I totally agree. TV ruins the imagination.
