  • This is a brilliant gardening video. So much easier to learn from watching someone doing it than from having them tell you how to do it. Well done! Planning to do any on pruning fruit trees and soft fruits?

  • When do you prune lavender? I hear spring, summer, fall. Which one is it?

  • Great video - thank you!

  • An excellent video which answered my questions clearly and expertly. Thank you

    Sarah, that was very helpful.

  • What species of Lavender plant is this in the video??? It is beautiful.

  • I've bought a house and have inherited a lavender plant whose "hardwood" is way overgrown, and therefore it has begun to take over the front lawn. I've heard about cutting just above the softwood, but this leaves an enormous ugly hardwood plant. Can I prune into the hardwood and still salvage the plant?

  • @misspantherpanther If you check out her other video, Woody Lavender, it says you'll have to pull it out and start over. Please check the video before doing so :)

  • Very informative - too bad I didn't see this sooner

  • Beautiful place you have. Such a pleasure to see someone with real know-how share their expertise!

  • also the leaves are so fragrant can you do anything with them?

  • @skino47aolcom I've read that you can use the leaves (and flowers) for culinary purposes: like breads, infused honey, and infused sugar! Google lavender recipes, a bunch of stuff should come up. Also, I've read that certain types of lavender are better for culinary use than others; supposedly english types (angustifolia) have the best flavor. All my plants are babies now, but I've been thinking of ordering some buds for cooking, you can find those online too

  • I like the video,my lavender is 3 or 4 yrs. old and so far I've only cut off the bloom, so now I'm afraid its getting too woody also from your garden I realize my plants are too close together. Is it safe to move them. As far as the pruning mine seem pretty compact, it is spring now in WV so should I do the 1/3 pruning or what?

  • Excellent video. Thank you so much for your help. This makes gardening not intimidating for the beginner!

  • Thanks for your informative vid, I live in the city and like to watch this stuff.

Can I grow lavender in a pot or indoors?

  • no wonder mine died... live and learn! Thanx for the informative video.

  • Didn't know Ke$ha was a gardener! :O

  • hello, i have a problem I have a lavender plant that was given to me for my birthday and I've been trying to keep it watered But I went out this morning to water it and the leaves and stalks looked dry Its not dying is it ? this is the very first lavender plant I,'ve every had. so any help would be a great welcome .

  • very informative video..thanks!!-helped this novice out quite a bit!

  • My lavender is 4 yrs. This spring it is all dry and pale, not like in the video? It seems to have died, or is it still dormant. 1/2 branches are green inside when I snap them? Should I cut it down drastically or just pull it up and start over? Any ideas? Utah region

  • This was on eof the best videos I have seen on pruning lavendar - thank you so much for this great video.

  • I wish everyone was doing movies like yours

  • this stuff smells really good.

i was with someone who picked it and rubbed it on their hands... now i pick it and leave it in my pockets. it has a really nice fragrance and i smell it when i sit down.

  • @shlempnar,

What does lavender smell like? Mint? Also, can you grow this plant in a tropical region? I live in Laos. Daily temperatures is 80 degrees in the lowlands. But in the mountains is 70 degrees. I have a cabin in the mountain jungles with all those monkeys and wild elephants.

  • sorry, i have no idea

  • I wonder at what season is she pruning this plant. My lavender plant doesnt look like this.

  • me too...i dont get it.

  • In years 1 & 2 you say to prune the plants to 2 inches above the woody area. When you are pruning the 3 year old lavender in this video, you didn't mention how close to the woody area you are pruning. About how many inches above the woody area are you pruning here for your 3 year old plant?

  • Great, clear. I'm going to go prune my lavender now.

  • Thank you for the video - I've read about this on several sites but seeing how to do it makes a huge difference. I've got several Hidcotes planted in 2 treepits a year ago in front of our house in Providence. They seem to love the lousy soil and bright sun but dog urine is a real killer! Thanks again.

  • the most helpful site on the web, thanks!

  • Thanks for all the helpful tips. PEACE.

  • i haev a beautiful lavender bush but its so overgrown, no idea how ot prune it without killing it

    thanks
