  • love this part of the movie. You didn't have the feet i don't have the heart.

  • i think shes living threw her daughter, its sick! i know its just a film but still it annoys me because it sometimes it really does happen!

  • Do they say break a leg in the dance community?

  • @Dangereuse80 Yeah, they really do.

  • What I love about this movie is the amount of dancing we get to watch.

  • What really got to me was when Maureen pointed out that if she were happy she wouldn't be throwing up, and all her mom could think to say was "you watch your weight, there's nothing wrong with that." No. That's not watching your weight. Dieting and exercising is watching your weight, not yakking up every meal.

  • tht was such a shock for me XD

  • @dosentmeanforever17 - I don't think it was so much that she "let her daughter go" as it was that she had no choice. Dancing was mom's dream and never once did she stop to ask what it was her daughter wanted. I think the mother was just too shocked there at the end to go chasing after her. I don't imagine that would be the end of things though. I'm sure mom would try to talk her daughter back into dancing a few more times before giving up completely.

  • I don't think the mom is all that bad. I think she truly wanted what she thought was best for Maureen. She should've seen the signs of her being unhappy, but at least she let her go in the end.

  • i love Eva in that dress!

  • she is the worst mum ever!

  • luv this movie

  • 8:18 So adorable...

  • Wo takes Eva's part over?

It's very unlikely that no one sees Eva has Maurin's dress on from the dressing room to the stage, especially because of the different skin colour.

At least they should tell Zergei (?) that they switch their role.

  • i hate it when parents live their dreams through their children. stupid stage moms!

  • Zoe Saldana should have been in Black Swan.

  • Does anyone know the song title of the piece with Zoe Saldana.

  • @coystorm Rachmaninov - piano concerto No.2 (Adagio sostenuto)

  • @CrispNightmareCrew I used to

  • Maybe I'm stupid, but... If Eva was rehearsing one of the secondary parts and in the end she took Maureen's part - who didn't go on stage... Who took Eva's and and her partner's part?

  • @VeraDonna They probably had understudies just in case someone fell ill or was injured. I'm sure an understudy was mentioned for Cooper's ballet but Cooper didn't think he was good enough,

  • @celandineflower He was mentioned, the understudy's name was Andre

  • Go Aesha Ash! So under appreciated at NYCB for being a WOMAN..and she looked beautiful as Zoe's dance double

  • @dmann3g what was the name of the song for the piece do you know please?

  • I still can't believe Ilya Kulik (Sergei) is in this film, for those that don't know, he's a figure skater that won the Gold medal at the 1998 Olympic games.

  • @vi3thunny Talented and cute with a hot accent...

  • She was ok??? Uh, pretentious bitch, much?

  • what is the music at 5:40?

  • why cant i watch part 11 or 12 anywhere... ugh

  • wo sind die letzten teile auf deutsch???????

  • Does anybody know whats the second ballet is???

  • @Saschamstar

it's pieces of the second and third movement of "piano concerto no. 2" by Sergi Rachamninoff. the first part is the second movement, after it cuts back from the conversation with the mom scene, it's the finale of the whole piece, at the end of the third movement. it is literally my favorite song. when i saw this movie for the first time a year ago, i freaked when they started dancing to this. i loooove this song!

  • "youre watching your weight theres nothing wrong with that" EFF OUT OF HERE! i woulda punched her in the face for saying that.

  • 2:30 - my favorite scene in the whole movie!

  • someone can tell me the name of the song in minute 8:40...?

  • @frostdiamond1 No, Ilia didn't do his own dance sequences - because he didn't have any dance training! It's rarer and rarer these days for figure skaters to have a background in ballet. The only current skater I can think of with ballet history is Plushenko. Ilia had a double for the dance sequences - look at the hair, you can tell it's not him ;)

  • I can't believe Maureen's mom. She's forcing her daughter to live out her dream and trying to live through her. And when Maureen says she is bulimic the mom says oh you watch your weight! OMG she's telling you she has a dangerous eating disorder and you're brushing it off!! If anyone is selfish it's the mom not Maureen...

  • This scene is my favorite out of the whole movie..

Its so beautiful.. Yet heartbreaking to see a mother living her dreams through her daughter. I feel bad for maureen and I Also feel bad for maureens mother. Great movie! :)

  • Ballard dancers are like angels,,,,i love how they swing...

  • maureen is bulemic - thats partly why- shes unhappy

  • "u dont have the feet, I dont have the heart" Wow could Maureen be anymore STUCK UP!! Actually felt sorry for the mom! Love to slap a bullimic bitch like her!

  • @summerbaybelle What? She was telling the truth. Her mom pushed her to dance, probably living out her own fantasy life through her, while Maureen didn't want to dance from the start.

  • Love juliets expression at 3:00

  • I agree, I have parents like that.

  • I hate parents who live vicariously through their kids.

  • @Eungenides my grandma tried that crap with me, that totally suck my heart goes out to Maureen.

  • i love how maureen goes "i wouldnt throw up half the things i eat" and her mom's like "you watch your weight theres nothing wrong with that" wtf?

  • My mum was also like that....except that she thought the other way aroung from maureen's mum.....Also, what kind of mum teaches her child by saying, "Why is that TRASH out there dancing for you?!" kind of makes me feel sorry for the mum....

  • wtf

her daughter whros up everythin she eats, the mum doesnt care?! WTF

  • Don't tell me they used horrible effects for the curtain

  • @parisgala it is never too late to start :)

  • @gracexscene so true :)

  • wow ! really lot of skips . lol but thank you for saving the nice things

  • is it too late to start ballet if ur like 20?? just wonderin if nyone knows

  • I hate how the people tell maureens MOM goodluck!its not like she is dancing!

  • living your life through your children is so..wrong..if you have dreams you should nurture and achieve them yourself..but dont bestow the burden onto your children..to live up to the ideal expectations..of what you would have wished for yourself..in terms of career choices..everyone has a right to live for themselves..and do the things that truly make that happy in life..her daughter is ill..and she does not show the slightest bit of interest or concern..

    Thank you ^_^

  • lol..i love charlie..he's so funny & cute..the way he walks over. ''listen forget him'' ^_^...

for the mum..it is such parents like that..that cause a repetive cycle sometimes later on..for those children who have experienced such parental guidance..and without having been able to find..the path in life that they truly want to take..

  • maureen.... *touched*

  • Eva sort of looks like Tyra banks at 2:40 :)

  • 5:08...the moment where maureen's mom should have hugged and reassured her daughter, but instead turned away like it was HER life that was falling apart.

  • Ugh, Maureen's mom is so UGH. I couldn't even enjoy Eva's beautiful dancing because of how she just stormed out.

  • Its simple really. The mom of Maureen is living vicariously through her daughter. She could not be the dancer so she is going to in essence..pretend to be through her daughter. Many parents do it. Pageant mothers are the worst. Taking a little little girl and saying..now go on stage and make mommy's life mean something or I don't love you hehe. Exaggeration I know but you get my point.

  • My favorite Scene of this movie.

  • Comment removed

  • she was fantastic! she was ok. Bitch

  • Was Julie meant to be the comic relief of the movie? everything she says she cracks me up.

  • that mum is such as selfish bitch

  • I really like Eva's transformation from being an uncaring smart aleck to tending to what she wants.

  • ug! i could slap that mom!!! get a clue!!!! dancing is not making her happy anymore!!! she reminds me of my mom

  • same here...ever since I quit my dance academy (not because it didn't make me happy, but of the annoying students and teachers I had who always made me feel useless) my mom keeps bugging me about saying things like "you know you could be there dancing instead of here at home.

  • @aabruderick me too..

  • @aabruderick Do you dance?

  • hi!! what's the name of this ballet??? thanks!!

  • I LOVE YOU Zoe Saldana....

  • what poor house conduct! leaving the theater in the middle of a dance! shame on maureens mom. ahaha. she's really mean too. she doesn't care about her daughter at all. i think maureen was only mean in the rest of the movie because she was unhappy.

  • and calling Eva trash... that is disgusting.

  • lol, i luv how they're fighting for her.

  • i really dont like the whole maureen throwing away her dancing career...i understand if she was unhappy doing it but she just wouldnt give up and quit dancing, full stop...all the money that has probally been spent and its not as if she is a terrible dancer, she was one of the best and she has obviously been dancing for a long time because part of her wanted 2, even if it was also her mother that wanted her to do it, so i think that that part of the story line is ridiculous and annoying

  • well when u do something simply and purely to make someone happy for many many years, u kinda stop living for u and u resent that person and the thing that u feel obligated to do. shes resented it for a long time. shes just ready to live her OWN life. and ballet has played a big part in it, yes, but she just doesnt love it. if u were in her shoes u'd probably do the same thing.

  • i have been in her shoes...and i really wanted 2 give up but i didnt cuz ballet is all i had known and it is a huge part of mi life...i started wen i was 3, so i never did quit cuz i knew that i would regret giving it all up, to not do something that you have been doing all your life it hard.

  • Hey, Colourful, you know, I used to be a pretty good ballerina when I was younger too but just like Maureen I decided this kind of life was not for me. And it wasn't even my family, they're absolutely fantastic and supportive in everything but I got to a point when it wasn't making me happy and I gave it up. There are a million other great things in life. I'm a scientist and a writer now. So I really think you're wrong. If you are really in HER shoes... do yourself a favor and quit.

  • how can you say that 2 some1...i get really annoyed at time about dancing but i rememeber who i want to be like or why i started in the first place or the times that i really did enjoy it and i persevere...and i think that being gd at something makes me happy...and that it was maureen should be like

  • Well, dear, that's why I said if you were in HER shoes. If you DO enjoy it, then you're obviously NOT. Nobody's saying everything we do should be easy. But there are certain sacrifices that aren't worth it for certain people and the right choice is to stop before you ruin your physical and mental health. She thought it wasn't worth it, being unhappy. We can't judge people because they don't feel the same way we do. :)

  • n0 maureen was good at it because her charcater shows how her mom made her go to school since a little girl she tun into her mom's little project shes good because in a way her mom made her so but she wasnt happy.

  • yes, I know i would kill to be the dancer she is

  • To answer the question of "How would Eva know Maureen's part?" well, if you don't remember, there was a scene where Eva was practicing Maureen's part and Juliet came in to help her. So I guess they want us to assume that she'd been learining it.

  • eva might have been an understudy

  • I think Charlie looks like Drew Seeley.

  • so how would eva know the dance?

  • "It's your dream" so typical! lol

  • tough question^^

  • Soooo if Maureen backed out and Eva is dancing the principal role, who's dancing Eva's? Is some guy lifting an imaginary girl?

  • eva wasnt selected in de 1st place rite??

  • Most likely someone who, like Emily, wasn't supposed to dance in the workshop

  • yes, good question

  • im pretty sure a big scale ballet like that ould have understudies even for smaller parts, in case someone gets sick/ injured.

  • Kathleen (Julie Kent) is a dancer in the ABT and i got to dance with her niece and meet julie kent and cooper(ethan Stieffel) and the girl he came out of the theatre with in a scene that was deleted it his real girlfriend

  • I wonder if Ilia Kulik (Sergei) did his own dance sequences for this movie--as an Olympic Gold Medalist in Men's Figure Skating, I'm sure he had extensive ballet training.

  • I knew he looked familiar!

  • Haha, yeah. I actually first watched this movie out of curiosity 'cause I knew he was in it!

  • cooper is a total yuck!!!!

  • I really like that teacher who was nice to Eva

  • WOW!!!!! that dance was amazing!!

  • Beautiful :)

    Loved the music

  • what ballet are they doing here? I feel like I should know, but I forget... Does anyone know? Much appreciated.

  • the ballet they are doing is swan lake

  • i know how she feels i don't like ballet but forced to do it very depressing :(

  • Story Ballet. Ballet=Acting.

  • im sorry, maureen great dancer. bad actor.

  • part 8 and 9 has been removed! plsss....where can i find them here?

  • Does anybody have advice to be as skinny as they are.. cause i'm probably the equivalent of an elephant next to them...And I don't particulairely ike that complexed feeling..

  • uhm...... eat less. People tend to eat too much, whether its healthy or junk food, but especially junk food. keep in mind what you eat, and every time before you eat something, think, "Will this help me with my dancing?" If its a couple pieces of fruit, then "Yes!"... If its a couple pieces of cake or pie.... "NO!!!" Drink tones of water and stretch and do ab work.

  • Work out, eat healthy and slowly. Often people don't get when they are full because they eat to quickly. So eat much more slowly, and you will feel full. Then, naturally, you will eat less. Don't size up your portions. That drives the body mad.

  • the best advice i can give u: ask ur parents and go c a nutitionist she/he'll make u a speciall diet for your type of person, just dont do stupid diets.

    Good luck!

  • defintely control your eating

    and excersize excerisize is key

good luck and another thing, check what your BMI is, and check how much calories you should be having each day so you dont over eat

    you have to excersize!

  • Heh. Look at 08:12. The girl on the right side of the front row is Anna.

  • huh?

  • The female dancer standing to Eeva's left at the end of the ballet is Megan Pepin, the dancer who plays Anna's role.

  • What about it? Its like saying "OOOh, its COOPER guys!" big whoop.

  • Well in the movie's storyline, Anna is already supposed to have danced the Mendelssohn, so she technically shouldn't be onstage.

I know it's a movie and they can only hire so many, but they should have placed her elsewhere so no one would notice.

  • OKAY...two things...

1.) How does Eeva dance Maureen's part perfectly, with no real rehearsal other than what she might have practiced on her own?

2.) Who is dancing Eeva's part if Eeva was supposed to be in the corps?

3.) What would the reaction be if students pulled this kind of a stunt in a real ballet school?

  • because 1. she was practicing Maureen's dance in the last part

    2. probably got an understudy to fill in for her but got told to keep it quiet

    3. maureeen quit so if anything they should thank Eva as she filled in the gap at the last minute

  • Does anyone else notice the weirdness in the lines between Maureen and her mother...?

    "What's wrong? Are you sick?"

    "No."

And then a few seconds later...

"I'm trying to tell you I'm unhappy and sick!"

I understand what they're trying to say, but...that's a weird dialogue right there...

  • "LadyJ", I think with that dialogue you refer to, it was supposed to convey a difference between illness as her mother defined it - being too under the weather to perform vs. another type of illness - mental illness/es that Maureen exhibits as well as her general unhappiness and dissatisfaction with how her life has been going.

I don't think it was an error - the juxtaposition was meant to emphasize that dual meaning.

  • does zoe saldana do all the dancing?

  • no Aisha Ashley is her dance double, but Zoe does have some nice line for not being an actual dancer.

  • who dances at 2:22? aisha ashely or zoe?

  • probably aisha or zoe's stand in since there is no full facial shot. Anything where you can't directly see Eva's face is going to be Aisha or her stand-in

  • o ok

    thx soo much

  • maybe, I read somewhere that she's done some ballet but I am not so sure about it

  • does anyone notice that maureen's mom looks she got shot after maureen talks to her? it's so freaking funny!

  • haha yes I saw it, haha very funny

  • Ballet is such a beautiful dance.

  • GOOD JOB EVA!!!

i remember when i took beginner ballet last semester. i HATED it as first cuz it was so technical, but then i ended up loving it because it does so much to ur technique. i would refer ballet to everyone. super hard but worth it

  • does cooper all of a suddenly get an accent at he beginning of the clip? lol i always noticed it.

  • Eva is such a gorgeous dancer!!! love her!

  • i always wondered what happened to evas partner did he dance?

  • the partner in the workshop? he's an iceskater.

  • maureen's mum is a bitch. her daughter tells her she throws up her food and she says, "there's nothing wrong with that. you're watching what you eat. "

  • I hate the way they say good luck to Maureen's mom. Whatever, bitch, like you're doing anything! Lol.

  • i love charlie

  • ZOE IS AN AMAZING ACTRESS AND DANCER

  • i am surprised by how she's also a dancer

  • yeah she did ballet before.

  • she actually didn't do a lot of that. if you look closely you can tell it isn't her sometimes. but she is a good dancer for what she did herself

  • crazy mother...imagine being under that much pressure to do what you dont even want to do..i couldnt stand it!

  • coopers such a mother fucking player

    aha ;)

    i love you

  • the cooper guy is playin her soooo much!!!

  • i love the way the music perfectly matches the moment between Maureen and her mom. Genius!!

  • When Maureen is telling her mom that she throws up and stuff and her mom is like, "So what you watch your weight." I was like SHE HAS AN EATING DISORDER B*TCH! LOL amazing movie though

  • god I love this movie! The dancers are really great!

  • does anyone know what part of Swan Lake that was? the music was so beautiful!

  • The music is the Rachmaninov Piano Concerto #2 in C Minor

  • thank you so so much!

  • lol no problem

I saw it performed by olga kern with the world youth symphony orchestra and i recognized it i wus like holy crap thats jonathens ballet!

  • i love eric!

  • phemyda94, i know exactly what u mean, living in a world of mothers that resemble dicttors and tha only thing they want is for u to live out their dream, same here ive been dancing since i was 3 , but i like it ok

  • Eva looks sooo beautiful in Jonathan's ballet. I think Maureen did the right thing. And WHY did her mom call Eva "trash"?? That is SO racist. She was BEAUTIFUL in that role.

  • Because it wasn't her precious daughter dancing out HER dream, even though Maureen never had the passion.

  • yet it had nothing to do with racist, just with a stupid woman who wanted to live her dream through her daughter and saw that all come apart, to which she responded not very well, as you can imagine :P

  • i love Zoe's dress and the dance is amazing :-)

  • sorry not Maureen...**Zoe**

  • 2:49 is just beautiful..luv it

The performance overall was lovely..well done Maureen!

  • i love how calm maureen is when shes talking to her mom.

  • Wasn't the mom sitting in the isle seat? I f so why did she push her way past all those people? Couldn't she just have left through the isle? It would have been more polite and not to mention easier, or is that just me?

  • This scene hits very close to home.

I come from a driven school where mothers are like maureen's mom; pressuring their daughters and then stubbornly looking the other way while they starve themselves and work themselves to exhaution and illness, simply because they are so determined that their daughters will live out their dreams
