@VampyricalCurse Dude, Messi's ball control and dribbling are better than any other player in the world. Forlan and Aguero wouldn't score 100 goals in 2 seasons. The only player that come close to Messi when it comes to dribbling is Robben.

Ronaldo might be considerd to be better alround by some people but Messi is still a better player.

Forlan? No way. Briljant player, but not as good as Messi different type of player aswell. Aguero? Haha, no. Just not as good. How can you not see that?

@VampyricalCurse Messi played a shitty WC, so did whole of Argentina (thx to Maradona who is the worst coach ever). Rooney, Torres, Drogba etc. All of them played a shitty WC. It was the worst WC in decades, in terms of the level of football.

Of course Xavi and Iniesta supply him well at Barca. But it would be foolish not to see that he is by far the best player in the world. Check his goal against Getafe for example.

@eetjaarem: I don't really like talking about this cos it becomes an endless debate. But, in short, the idea of a best player in the world, is preposterous. No man can be "the best" out of ALL players. Messi in *MY* opinion messi would be the best midfielder, no doubt, his body type is perfect for it, I don't like him as a forward, he can't defend for his life, and strikers there are quite a bit that are better than him.

@eetjaarem: Also, cos of his ball control and speed, messi can break through a less than average defense by himself. The last display of this, was against the US, which has a sorry defense, and so, messi did a lot of damage to it. Now look at the game against Germany, a whole different story. Also, it is not all maradona's fault, argentina might be a good team, but it's overrated.

Tactically, Argentina was a mess during that game. And I don't understand why Maradona left Cabiasso and Zanetti out...

Their goalie and defense in not the best, but they sure got some great players, on the bench aswell.

Nevertheless, Messi did give a couple of assists during the WC. And he really is unstoppable this season. He's just 23! The only thing he still needs is strength

Those things I put "yes" next to, is the things he excels at. I do consider messi better than maradona, as I consider any other top players better than maradona too. Why? Cos maradona was a junky drug addict, and someone who does that to play soccer, hardly deserves any recognition as a sportsman, he cheated everybody, including the fans.

What determines being the best player ever? Winning the bloody WC or your abilities? Messi already does alot for Argentina, he scores alot of goals there aswell. But the other Argentine players (defense!) isn't good enough. Plus they had a world's worst coach during the WC. Every single week Messi scores at Barca. Every single week he shows his amazing qualities. I don't get he's got Xavi and Iniesta around him. He is still the best player ever.

Spain and Germany have far better squads atm. Holland aswell ( at least better than England ).

Don't forget that Messi is only 24 years old. I think ability wise he more than equals Maradona. And don't forget the way Maradona won the WC (handball). Messi is also more intelligent and football today is of a much higher level than back in the 80's. The number of games increased aswell.

@eetjaarem Thats all true, but messi hasn't the leadership maradona had . And also, messi has been incapable to score in south america in his selection, as he scores in europe. Maradona could win games by himself, and messi almost start to cry in the field. Messi needs Barcelona behind him, and the argentinian press to be the best, maradona simply scored in every team he played, with a very strong personality. Messi, at least in South america is just one more player, thats all.

@alvstel Not true. Messi does score for Argentina and also gives assists. He isn't as good as Maradona was for Argentina, but people tend to forget the fact that Maradona was one of the very few who was top fit at the 86 WC.

Argentina just has pretty avarage midfielders. They need players to provide him, not even of Xavi's level. Of course it's easier with Xavi and Iniesta (though Messi scored a CL hattrick whithout them ;)

Messi is only 24, he still got a decade.

And don't forget that Maradona was injured right before the WC. He played very few games that season, and was able to be top fit at the WC when other players weren't. ;)
