  • I CANNOT BELIEVE HE PREFERS COORS LIGHT OVER CHIMAY!!!!!!!!!!! He knows nothing of beer

  • @pargement This is one of our two most hated episodes. I hope you will check out some of our newer episodes and before you write us off. We have a blind taste test of Chimay Blue that was pretty interesting.

  • @AgileHProductions

Hello. Thank you for your response. I have watched a few more, and really enjoy the show. I love the history of the beers in the start of each episode especially, please dont slow down on that. Thank you.

    Clay

  • @pargement Awesome. I'm glad you watched more. I think this isn't the best representation of what our show is about, so I'm happy you gave us a second chance.

  • How can these guys compare Chimay to miller and bud. Its a champagne style beer not crappy american corn beer! Please dude I rate this beer at least a 7. Is it the best type of champagne style beer I've had no. If you prefer carbonated water with a little alcohol added to it then fine. I'll stick to beer that actually has some flavor in it. "I'd go for the miller instead" haha

  • @JanexxDoe I think they came into this review with some preconceived notions about the beer. You should check out the blind taste test we did of this beer in response to all the poor feedback we received on this video.

  • I just did a taste test with Chimay blue and bunch of different beers yesterday, including beers by great divide, deschute's, dogfish head, and north coast. Chimay blue beat them all and blew them all out of the water. Are you sure you had a bottle that wasn't expired? Maybe you were drinking one from 1805 or something?

  • Wow I literally, once again, disagree with almost everything Mark is saying. Does he even like Beer?? Go drink your Miller light! Geeeeesh. Hundreds of years of monk brewing and he'd rather drink pee? find a new panelist.

I like Chef but was dissapointed by his response.

  • @jcomp21 You're not the only that was disappointed. That's why we did the blind taste of Chimay last month.

  • 1:52 - Good not great? Chimay is better than 95% of all the beer on the market!! What's better, High Life??

  • @aeopmusic Did you check out our blind taste test of Chimay? It was interesting. It may not change your opinion of us, but its worth checking out.

  • wow How can you prefer a Miller lite... Come on !! I guess I'm not going to follow your ratings :P to choose a good beer

  • @marcfeyzeau I don't think we necessarily nailed it on this one, which is why we did a blind taste test of the beer this month. You should check it out. This is our second most "disliked" video on the web. It doesn't necessarily represent us well. I hope you will check out some of our other reviews and give us a second chance.

  • very interisting video, but the guy with the cat looks like a jerk... greetings

  • @andreasbld187 Trust me. He is a jerk and a half.

  • WOWWWWWWWWW, I'd looooooooove to taste this... wow, oh my god...

  • This may be one of the most disgraceful beer reviews I've ever seen! For crying out loud, get these boys some Coors light and give me that Chimay!

  • @markwhitson We just did a blind taste test of Chimay Blue. The video will be released in January. I think that our viewers will find the results to be pretty interesting.

  • @AgileHProductions Still, if your guys preffer a Miller lite to a Chimay, not sure that people should listen to you for an advice, and should go on beer advocate ! cheers

  • @marcfeyzeau We never claimed to be experts. We are just regular guys trying out new beers. Regular guys can look to us and see what regular guys think, not what full-fledged beer nerds think. This is our second most hated video out of over a hundred that we have posted. I don't think that it represents our show very well and that is why I did the blind taste test. We are not going to win everyone over with our reviews, but we are spreading the word about trying new beer and having fun.

  • this is why no one takes a frat kids beer advice

  • The point of drinking craft beer is not to get hammered off your ass. If all you want to do is get hammered then stick to liquor. Craft beer is all about drinking for the taste.

  • @charvelgtrs Good point.

  • Honestly anyone who knows anything about beer is gonna lose all respect for these reviewers after seeing this video.

You're better off just removing it imo

  • @GreenLightSky We just recorded a Chimay blind taste test. I think people will find the results very interesting. It will be released around the beginning of January.

  • @ spewintothis

Wrong. I don't get drunk off strong lager. I get drunk off strong quality unfiltered ale. A magnum/75 of anything Belgian strong ale style and the world is a better place. I don't particularly like the dark versions. Too sweet. Pale on the other hand . . . . hmmm Belgian ale.

  • I"m a huge fan of all the Chimay brews. Full, unfiltered flavor. I've tried hundreds of mass produced and craft beers. Chimay Grande Reserve is definitely a favorite.

  • This is some candyassery. Its a pricey ass beer for sure but its definitely not deserving of an average rating.

  • @CraigKramer This is one of our most notorious reviews. Personally, I thought the beer was pretty damn good. But I'm just the host, not the reviewer.

  • @AgileHProductions its a very strong beer, but it is an acquired taste. I understand if people don't like it, but they have to admit its quality beer. It deserves that much.

  • I dont know what americans call them, but australians call these guys bogans.

  • Bud light over Chimay? Do me (and YT) a favor and lay off the crack pipe before doing your reviews.

  • Haha. I can't imagine anyone saying, "I wanna get drunk, let's drink Chimay"

  • @spewintothis Guess what, it is possible in Belgium :D

  • 6.3 ???? thats a shame...

  • @flocheman This is one the best beers available in america in my opinion. Belgium's are the master of beer forget the Germans. The totally disagree with this review they posted.

  • @flocheman They= I i was drunk I apologize however, you Belgium's are the masters of the art of beer I salute you! Here is to Belgium ! (drinks).

  • You should consider doing a blind tasting, not just with this but with all beers.

  • @jackj1959 I agree. Scientifically that would give a more accurate analysis of flavor. But, it provides logistical challenges that are hard for me to pull off given my limited budget, time & staffing. Branding is a part of beer and I don't mind letting the brand influence the panel. Afterall, we are very upfront about the fact that this show is not an in-depth formal analysis of the beer. There are tons of other reviews like that online. We are just an informal conversation about the beer.

  • @jackj1959 Also, this is one of our most controversial episodes. I hope you will check out some of our other episodes where we discover great beers like Racer 5 IPA and Green Flash Double Stout.

  • @AgileHProductions

Thanks for the response. Respectfully, I don't think it would be that big of a logistical challenge, but I understand if that's now what you're going for. Frankly, yours is the first beer review online that I've watched/read, so I don't know of those other blind ones. I was just googling Chimay on a friend's recommendation and came across this. Good luck, and thanks for the feedback on the Chimay.

  • @jackj1959 Actually, I've never seen any blind taste testing reviews. I was talking about other reviews that are a lot more technical about their flavor profiles. Most reviews are just one or two guys sitting at their kitchen tables, so it would be impossible for them to keep the beer a secret from themselves.

  • Chimay is a very hard beer to review, when I picked it up I kinda went "man, this beer is nothing special" but was left with the feeling of wanting to drink more and MORE of it, I can't find any specific taste as to why, it's just an overall feel

  • wow...these guys should stick to their Bud Light and stop reviewing world class beers. I feel embarrassed for them.

  • with all due respect to Mark's opinion, i believe he has had a bit too much of regular average beers (MGD) to be able to expand your palate and understand the scale in which the Chimay Blue falls into and although I understand that this beer isnt the best, it certainly has much more to offer than anyone of the rice beers that were mentioned on this show. thanks.

  • If you cannot session this beer, you would be better off sticking with PBR. Just sayin.

  • These guys suck meth head choda.

  • Long time fan of this beer, my uncle from the Netherlands was just in the town of chimay and purchsed the grande reserve as a b-day gift for me. These are hard to come by in Toronto!

  • Mark Smith burned his taste buds with smoldering cigarettes. That's why the flavour is amiss on his tongue.

  • your opinion is your opinion but this beer is probably one of the top 25 best beers in the world .the fruityness of the yeast and malty flavors lends itself to some of the most enticing ,earthy ,and ancient flavors in the world. please stop embarrassing the state of O-H-I-O

  • "Its a great tasting beer its very smooth...but if I had the choice I would drink Miller Lite which is practically water with slight alcohol content over it"

  • Fuck that, if you can afford it I totally recommend it. I get it a few times a year but I always enjoy the hell out of it.

  • CLOWNS . . .

  • I cant believe I actually agreewith Joby for once.

  • LMAO! Miller Lite over this? Hahahaha get the fuck out.

  • to compare à Bud light to a Chimay?? WTF Bud et Coors are water

  • I agree with you, this beer is vastly overrated. Don't listen to these wankers.

I would rate it even lower (even then I still would take it over a macro though).

  • Obviously those reviewers have been found in some pub getting drunk on horse piss hell they even have the look. A Chimay is a beeris mean to be slowly enjoyed it's like a good wine.

  • You gave Natty Light and Chimay Grande Reserve the same score?!?! You'd drink Miller light over the Chimay?!?! Do us all a favor and never drink any Skull Splitter, it would be wasted on you. Turn in your beer cards, you're idiots!

  • @45wraith This is one of our more controversial episodes. I hope you will check out some of our less controversial episodes, like Dale's Pale Ale, and give us another shot.

  • @AgileHProductions After watching again I feel that your team needs to realize that there are different kinds of beer for different occasions. You seem to judge solely on what one might classify as a session beer, one to be quaffed in quantity over a whole night. Nothing wrong with that but when you place a high ABV brew like Chimay GR in that category and have a pretentious judge like Adam taste a brew clearly out of his league.., well. You guys clearly enjoy beer, I'll keep watching.

  • @45wraith I'm glad you'll keep watching. I have to say that I disagreed with Adam and Mark on this show in particular, but its their opinion and I can't really tell them what opinion to have. I thought this was an excellent beer that I would like to enjoy again.

  • @45wraith

The best part about life is that not everyone agrees on everything. And while their review of this beer is a little controversial, and this channel has been harassed by Beer Advocate because of reviews like this, it just goes to show you that not everyone has to agree on everything. I've wanted to try this beer for awhile, I can't find it anywhere. People have recommended it for me and I was pretty surprised when I saw it get a low review here because everyone else seems to love it

  • @SuperTugz

While it is true that we all can't agree on everything, to do a Beer Review implies that you are starting from some level of knowledge and authority, heck, the words BETTER BEER AUTHORITY are splashed at the 4 second mark. An AUTHORITY on BEER, should he not have liked the Chimay, would have compared it to another Belgian Ale. This was like reviewing a Shelby Cobra and saying it isn't as good as your Dodge Caravan, the review becomes invalid at that point.

    Cheers!

  • @45wraith

wow. Your the first person Ive heard talk about skull splitter. Ive drank one before and it rocked my socks. Very nice brew

  • I liked it (didn't love it). Good review, y'all.

  • These fucking toolbags have no place reviewing fine, craft brew. You'd rather drink a miller lite over chimay grande reserve? You deserve whatever happens to you.

  • This beer that costs me around $12(bottle)..high octane (alcohol)if you you may..nice buzz..I only drink about 5oz of it so far..very mild..as a baby I was raise by drinking godparents whom feed me beer(Hamms)in my baby bottle simply because I was wild and full of energy like the Bunny and I was probably an alcohic at 1 years old.

This is like a fine wine/cognac..its not bitter..I like it..and as a baby..I would have loved it

  • @metropolisio I don't recommend this beer for babies - maybe O'doul's.

  • That was a fun watch. I absolutely loved your expression when you asked the dread millers lite question, like "say whut ?" haha. I live in france so theres plenty of specialized bars offering you great belgian beers, and Chimay Bleue is defo my fave trappist alongside Westmalle Triple. But one thing always shocks me about beer reviews, it's that most of the details are about QUANTITY. Trappist beers are meant to be sipped on while slowly eating some strong cheese... not really party at a BBQ :D

  • @SlikkTim I have to admit. I was shocked at their reaction to the beer. I thought it was pretty tasty.

  • @AgileHProductions It's funny how the hipness of stuff can vary. In france those kinda bears are really viewed as good old stuff, it costs like 2 bucks a bottle and commonly found at supermarkets. Most hipsters here are drinkin... imported Bud or Corona (yikes !) when they could get great stuff like Jeanlain or Pelforth for half the price ! go figure.

  • six goddamn canadian dollars for me!

  • @dirkshrubb hmmmm.... Let me get out my currency calculator. :)

  • @dirkshrubb $10.26 tax in in Nova Scotia :(

  • Im really dissapointed with this review you guys really missed the mark on this one and from other comments I am correct. Light beer...someone who drinks light beer should not be reviewing this beer full stop no question in my mind ESPECIALLY if they would go a bud light over Chimay. AND BEER NERDS? What a joke these kinds of beers are a staple in european countries I know I lived in germany and austria for many years theres nothing nerdy about it. Good work letting the jocks review this. FAIL!!

  • @cradlenazi Thanks for the feedback. I hope you will check out some of our other shows - especially our "How We Rate Beer" episode.

You should look within... If you find yourself watching beer reviews on the internet on a regular basis, then you are perilously close to becoming a beer nerd - or, if you prefer - a beer geek.

  • Comment removed

  • A very controversial review indeed, but I guess in the end it all comes down to personal opinions. I personally enjoy this beer and would probably give it a 9, but taste buds vary and not everyone will enjoy the same thing. Way to mix it up guys, good review.

  • You suck horsedick

  • Drinking Chimay just to get drunk? That loses all credibility this dude said. But, just a tip to you guys, be less opinionated. Who the hell goes to youtube to watch beer reviews? Beer snobs such as myself do. So think like a beer snob when you review your beers. Otherwise no one will appreciate your reviews. Chimay blue is more of an 8.

  • @tennisIS4pussys There are a lot of people who do what you are describing. We do something a little different. It doesn't appeal to everyone. I hope you will tune back in for some of the episodes that we already have on tape like Victory Storm King Stout, Stone IPA, Newcastle Draughtkeg, Natural Light and Guinness Foreign Extra Stout.

  • @tennisIS4pussys being a beer snob defeats the entire purpose of the beer culture.

  • Oh dear...

    *facepalm*

  • Try 'Duvel' 'Geuze Lambic' or 'Grimbergen' , also from Belgium. Bud or Miller, geez that's like Heineken... Stale dishwater...

  • @SmearTheQueer89 Who doesn't?

  • Wow, i'm surprised. This is a fantastic treat of a beer. While yeah, there are plenty of other great tasting microbrews out there that cost less, Chimay Blue is still a great drinking experience. I'd consider more of a treat, not something you're going to drink all of the time. It's very complex with a ton of subtle flavors to pick out, probably my favorite quad i've had to date.

  • @adramatictheme I personally enjoyed this beer. I like that you call it a "treat". I wouldn't have it every day because of the price, but I wouldn't mind having it every once in a while as a "treat".

  • do the monks brew the beer or do they just beat the people who do if there doing it wrong?. and beer can ferment in the bottle too?

  • You would only think someone would drink Chimay Blue to get drunk? Good Christ, what a comment. Chimay is not the best Quad around (Rochefort is perhaps better) but man, some of the things that come out of the mouths of the panelists are bizarre to people who know beer. Please stop judging a beer by whether or not you want to drink another! A beer can be very good, but one might be enough. That is not a helpful way to judge a beer. Do you want to eat 3 pieces of rich cheesecake? cheers

  • @donosborn When they "choose to have another" it doesn't just refer to that particular drinking session, it might refer to having another in the future.

If you say something is a good beer, but you wouldn't drink it again ever, then is it really a good beer (I'm only talking personal preference, not quality of ingredients or brewing)?

  • @AgileHProductions Maybe. But I think there is a difference between not wanting to have something "ever again" (i.e. it is not a good beer) to maybe only wanting to have it sometime in the future, occasionally. Look at a beer like the famous strong lager, Samichlaus. It is an extremely unique and interesting and very nice beer. It's very strong, smooth, and a different kind of lager. I drink it every now and then (once a year maybe). It's a great beer and I would rate it highly.

  • So I'm confused. Are you saying that, "It tastes like BMC, so why not just drink BMC"? Or are you saying there is just nothing really special about it, flavor wise.

I've find when people say it's "Easy To Drink" they mean, it has no flavor.

I find "Water" easy to drink. I find drinking beer makes my brain work. I want to analyze it instead of chug it. So in that case, almost no beer is easy to drink.

BMC is easy to drink because it is essentially water and not difficult to figure out.

  • @brandon0409 @brandon0409 We aren't saying it tastes like BMC. Mark said that he would choose to drink almost any beer over this one - just because of personal preference. I threw out the BMC beers as an example and he said that "Yes, he would even drink those over Chimay". Adam agreed. Nowhere in there did they say they taste like BMC. I think this is smooth, easy to drink and very flavorful and complex, so I don't think those terms have to mutually exclusive. Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Chimay is a speciality beer,It can not be classed in with those "lite" beers cmon guys, put it up against beers in its own class.

  • @MARK1971UK1 We aren't saying it tastes like BMC. Mark said that he would choose to drink almost any beer over this one - just because of personal preference. I threw out the BMC beers as an example and he said that "Yes, he would even drink those over Chimay". Adam agreed. Nowhere in there did they say they taste like BMC. Honestly I don't think we have enough experience to judge it compared to other beers in its class and that's just being honest. Have you seen our "How We Rate Beer" video?

  • land shark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I really like this one and I'd personally rate it higher but I'm glad you were able to speek openly about it. More beer reviewers need to do that. Good review. So far for me the St. Bernardus is my favourite trappist, I've had a 2008 bottle of Westvleteren 12 although it was also a great beer I think I like the fresher St. Bernardus. I have the rocehfort's and westmalles in the cold celler brought back from vegas so we'll see if that changes.

  • @TheBeeraholic Have you had all the trappist ales? It sounds like you are touching a lot of bases there. Thanks for the nice comments.

  • @AgileHProductions After the Rochefort's and Westmalles I believe so. I've done 500+ reviews now. Just started the videos a few months back though Cheers.

  • better beer authority... better beer 51 oz ?? damn i want one.

  • @Savethepolarbears79 A 51 oz Chimay Blue will rock your world!

  • Nice honest responses this time. I like the longer format, as it gives you guys more time to discuss your overall opinions of the beers. For once I definitely have to give a kudos to Joby.

    Cheers guys!

  • @TheEndosymbiosis I think the longer video worked in this case. I still cut 2 or 3 minutes from the show, but mostly because I wanted to focus on the good stuff. We have a few episodes coming up that have run a little long.

  • Funny stuff guys! Did not expect this beer to get a 6.3, or the beer nerds saying that they would take miller lite over this. This is why I like watching your reviews: excellent quality, multiple perspectives, and you never quite know what to expect for a rating. You guys aren't afraid to give a highly acclaimed beer an average rating. I've only had Chimay Red (gifted), and although I enjoyed it a lot, I would never pay the outrageous price for one. It just wasn't that "special."

  • @dyedm4killa Thanks for the great feedback. Hopefully we can have Chimay Red in the near future. One beer a week just isn't enough. We may have to step our game up.

  • I personally really love this beer. It's fairly complex, it drinks very smoothly, it can be aged, and it reminds me of a good port wine. But I can see how it's not for everyone. It's a hard style to get into for some people, especially if they have only had exposure to BMC brews. Chimay Blue is a beer you've got to work up to a bit. Great video, from you guys. I watching enjoyed the conversation.

  • @elharlock I haven't had this beer aged, but I'm thinking about buying some to age. Can you wait 3 years for that episode? :) I thought this beer was great. I loved the flavor.

  • @AgileHProductions Heh, well, if you can wait a year and a half I'll let you know what a 3-year old bottle tastes like.

  • Not worth the money.

  • @TheHammer609 There are so many great craft beers that are half the price. I would have a hard time shelling out those premium dollars very often with so many other options available. It did taste good though.

  • Nice one, very controversial.

  • Hmm James I see your ready to get busy with that robe on huh? lol =)

  • Miller lite? ughhhhhh

  • Time to get a new panel!!! Miller Lite over Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue).

    UNSUBSCRIBE on this one!!!

  • great beer review i enjoyed the debate going on. i really got a sense of what the beer is like i gotta try a bottle of this soon.

  • the bmc douchebag.. ouch, a little harsh on that one ay kitchen bitch?

  • Miller Lite over Chimay?! Have you lost your mind?

Are you guys going for another Arrogant Bastard episode here?

  • @IsThisSumBattleToads We weren't going for anything. During our pre-show talk I realized that this was going to be a controversial episode. I thought Chimay was really good. I would give it an 8 or 9, but I don't rate the beers.

  • looks like a 70's porn mustache!!

    Goatee!!

  • @bmeyer44 I had a lot of fun with the mustache. Maybe I should have kept it so I could have fun all the time!

  • 5 or 6? Wow, Sensei.

  • @drinklikafish1 I was surprised too. Sometimes the guys like them and sometimes they don't. Hopefully people will remember that they liked Hopslam and Celebrator and realize that not everyone is going to like every beer.

  • Comment removed

  • @drinklikafish1 Did you remove this comment? It was sent to me anyways. I thought it was a good one. Hope you repost it.

  • @AgileHProductions Nope, the Brewing Elitest Establishment Regime (B.E.E.R.) must have tried to censor me! I re-posted it though. B.E.E.R. members are easy to spot, just read their comments :)

  • @drinklikafish1 spelled Elitist wrong...FAIL

  • 5 or 6? Wow...

  • You guys should rate natural ice as a joke episode! I'd have to give it a 1 myself but I'd like to see the BBA's take on it.

  • @PopeOnArope123 Funny you should say that... We just reviewed Natural Light last night and will release it in a few weeks. It was fun. Also coming up... Stone IPA, Newcastle Draughtkeg, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Victory Storm King Stout, Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA

  • @AgileHProductions I look forward to it.

  • Miller Lite over Chimay Blue? Sure, Chimay isn't the best Belgian beer, but it has a lot more flavor than Miller Lite.

  • @charvelgtrs I can't argue with you. Different strokes for different folks.

  • I like the honesty in this review. I want to try this myself and see if its as good as everyone says.

  • @121BigRed I think there is a little hype with this beer, but some of it is definitely deserved. I think every beer lover should try Chimay Blue at some point.

  • James, you looked a bit like Dr. Evil when you were stoking the cat. :) Good to see the "BMC douchebag" finally step up! lol FWIW - Quad and high ABV go hand in hand. IMO, Chimay Blue sets itself apart by being so smooth for an 11% abv beer, and the complexity of the nose and the palate.

  • @hophedbrewhaus I was going for 70's porn meets Alex Trebec. Nailed it!

  • LMFAO that mustache is rockin'.

  • Would rather drink Miller Lite? Jesus H LOL!!

  • Ignore the beer elitists, you guys make some fantastic videos.

  • @Mattyb667 Thanks so much! We have a bunch of cool episodes coming up. Stone IPA, Victory Storm King Stout and Natural Light. Stay tuned!

  • Jeez, 2 minutes into a 9 minute video you guys are rating it? LOL

Is Adam bi-polar? He always seems like he's one wrong look away from punching someone, lol

I think Chimay Blue is a tad over-rated. It's the kind of beer you need to age for a year or two or 5.

They do sell 4-packs for about $15

were those the Ayinger goats on the bottles?

  • @ChadzBeerReviews I could tell in our pre-show discussion that this episode was going to be a little heated and controversial, so I was just trying to cut straight to the good stuff. I also cut some of their first answers short in edit because it wasn't as interesting as the latter half of the episode and I try and keep it shorter. This is our longest regular episode ever.

Those were they Ayinger goats. We taped this the same night as Celebrator. We just did it to see if anyone would notice.

  • I think 6.3 is way too low for this beer. Rather then comparing this to a 6 pack of miller or bud light why don't you compare this to a bottle of wine. 10 bucks for a bottle of wine is not a lot to spend.

  • @Tantrum777 That's a good perspective.

  • I love you guys!
