@WatchmenNo1 Yes. Children cannot make adult decisions. Their minds and bodies are not mature enough for such relationships. Paul said, "If she is past the flower of her youth, a man may have his virgin." Zoophilia? People should stay with their own species. Necrophiliac? You will have to explain to me what that means. I could not find it in the two dictionaries I own.
Faith itself is a gift from god - if this man has faith, he has the holy spirit and is saved. Thank god for brave people like gene. I am hurt by the thought of what this man has endured. God bless gene.
This person is speaking blasphemy against Christ's teaching of Love. Those who are subject to the oppression of the perversion of homosexuality need the help of Christ and the Holy Spirit to be freed of it. Homosexuality, like all perversion has no relationship whatsoever to marriage. Some sly foxes are teaching the public thru the media that perversion is a "human right". According to God's Love however the human right is to be liberated from perversion. How depraved our Western society is!
Of course you can pick and choose parts of the Holy Bible. If this were not so, the general consensus would be that a shirt containing cotton and polyester would be unclean, and that the appropiate sin offering is…grain and oil. As Christians, our highest commandment—the onus upon us—is that we respect, value, love, and UNDERSTAND all people—including GLBTQ persons. That's what we must do. :-)
Have I ever said anything to dispute that? Of course we are to love GLLBTQ people. We are to love everyone. Because we love them, we can't say that such behavior is accepted by God because, according to our only possible source of info regarding God's commands, it is quite clearly not. Just because it is not repeated ten thousand times does not make it okay. Why is it not ok? Because a lifestyle in opposition to God will, obviously, distance one from God.
Better Gene Robinson, who is openly gay and comfortable with it, than a Ted Haggard who is going through agony right now because he too is gay and can't admit it to himself, God, his family, etc.
Ted Haggard is eventually going to commit suicide over this. Would it be worth it if he did?
Scripture is our ultimate and final authority over all other writings, there is only one right interpretation given to His elect by the Holy Spirit. YHWH has not left His children in confusion. To pick and choose scripture is the sin. The evedence that one is born again is that he now hates the sin he onced loved. Just because some people pick and choose the scriptures they like does make it right. Premaritial sex common place these days, the word teaches that all fornicators go hell.
i think the Bible says a lot of things, don't we all pick and choose what things we follow? People do not choose their orientation of course (who would choose a difficult life of being gay?) so we as believers just have to accept and love all.
That is the most difficult of the few passages that allude to homosexual behavior but a reading in context will show that nothing in Romans speaks of a commited loving relationship.
( Holy Bible )Romans 1:24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.
27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
St. Paul actually thought the world was going to end soon anyway, so why have children. Almost 2,000 years later, and we're still waiting for the world to end. Tells you how much he knew.
He claims to be a minister of the Gospel and yet lives a life of blatant, habitual, and unrepentant sin. He claims to love the church and all believers, yet he has torn the Episcopal church apart by refusing to step down as an openly gay minister. In short, he is a false teacher of the likes that our Lord warned us of when speaking of the last days. Anything he says must be taken with this in mind.
His recent invocation at Obama's inauguration sounds good, but contains about as much scriptural truth as you could fit into a thimble. Its comfortably vague and smacks of universalism, not surprising considering the source. Far from wishing hellfire on him, I genuinely hope that this man can come to a point of repentance before its too late. Leaders of the Church are held to a high standard for a reason, because heresy can harm many lives and lead many astray.
And yet most religious leaders ignore completely the majority of 'laws' of the bible themselves. They don't stone people, they don't sacrifice doves, they wear blended fiber clothing, they shave, they sleep in the same bed with their wives when they are menstruating or pregnant. Hipocracy just makes me puke.
Those religious laws are from the Old Testament... God put them in place because of a need for Gods righteous judgement back then... we are now under New Testament covenant. when Jesus Christ came and died and rose again, we no longer are under the letter of the law, but under Gods grace, meaning that we don't have to follow those laws which were temporary.
Jesus said that he did not come to destroy the old law, which means that despite his saving us we are still bpund by it. what he gave us was not a free claim to anarchy, but to pardon. One who truly loves his master and father will follow his commands without need for reward or punishment.
Don't mistake mercy for a kind of diplomatic immunity. Christ mentioned self control as one of the fruits of the spirit, the sign of one who loves and follows him. If one does not exercise self control, with regards to sexuality or whatever, I would wonder about the sincerity of their commitment to God.
@strangeseraph You obviously have read none of the new testament passages removing the old ritualistic Jewish practices because of the new covenant. Please read some Church Fathers or some biblical commentary as to relieve us all of your incredible ignorance of the Christian religion. Hypocrisy is a terrible thing, but complete ignorance in a religious critique is far worse.
@TheArsenalfc101 Excuse me, but I used to be a freaking Christian, I own a bible and I've read most of it, and I know what the religion is MEANT to teach, the laws the bible Christians practiced that modern Christians don't. Its all pick and choose pick and choose. Why don't YOU read the darn book you claim to believe in and see what it has to say.
@strangeseraph Well you obviously r not a very deep reader or don't understand anything about hermeneutical interpretation. There's a clear cut difference between adulterous acts and not eating a shellfish (one is a moral command, one is a command given to the Israelite society as civil law and to differentiate themselves from the pagans in the Middle East at the time). The New Covenant dissolves much of the old rituals. Maybe read some Christian philosophy as well instead of upholding jargon
@strangeseraph correction.... "I used to be a Christian" no sir, you never was one. You don't just lay it down like its nothing... You thought you was a christian.. You was a Matt 7:22... read it sometime...
Honestly, all this hate mongering in the name of God can't be good. Deal out hate, and hate will be given you, and we're seriously screwed. Because there is no way in hell that ANYONE will be saved if we keep hating one another. If a man pushes for peace, and that peace is pushed away - those who ignore an olive branch are no better than the worst sinners. So keep ignoring it. If Gene Robinson goes to hell, you'll be three steps below him.
Its not a question of hate, not with me anyway. I can't speak for others, of course. Its easy to write off those who oppose you by portraying them as violent, hateful and ignorant but its much harder to honestly hear them out. To me, regarding Robinson and those who would approve of his lifestyle, its a question of truth and falsehood not love or hatred. I don't have even the faintest inkling of hatred towards Robinson, yet I am
strongly opposed to his leadership, message, and presence as a leader in a large Christian denomination. If you encounter someone who is dangerously in the wrong then isn't it the caring thing to do to point this out and urge them to change?
oregoncoastman, who are you to decide whether someone is "dangerously in the wrong"? The bible speaks more strongly against divorce and remarriage than it does against homosexualtiy. And have you eaten any shrimp or crab lately? If so, then you are going against the Bible and you yourself are 'dangerously in the wrong.'
You are absolutely right, Christians are no one to "judge" others. It is not our place to condemn and its wrong to hate others. However, the Bible does say that you will know a tree by its fruit. And you are right about the other point, also. The Bible does speak strongly against other topics, which also are serious problems within the church. Except for certain cases (the Bible mentions about a spouse cheating), divorce is no less a sin than homosexuality
I am nobody to decide what is dangerously wrong. God, on the other hand, has made this very obvious in the Bible. Your argument is rather disingenuous. Yes, Jesus repeals this dietary laws regarding types of food in the New Testament ("Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body?
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander."Matthew 15:17-19). However, he never repeals the timeless moral laws regarding such things as homosexuality, among other things. Sin is sin, period. It ALL separates us from God.
Please know that my hearts desire in saying these things is not to be judgmental, it is to faithfully speak the truth. I am not perfect. I have sinned before, and I thank God that I have received forgiveness through Christ in faith. Anyone else can as well and its my deep desire that they do. =D
No, by living a life of unrepentant sin he is encouraging others to sin and will be accountable for this incredible evil someday if he doesnt repent...which I hope he does btw.
I too am as guilty as Gene Robinson. Why I condemn what he is doing is because by spreading this unbiblical philosophy throughout the church, he is endangering the spiritual lives of so many who trust him..
If homophobia is thinking that the anus was made ONLY for defecation, then YES I am homofobic. Bishop left his wife and has had alcohol addiction, this is the example gays follow! Good job!
jelejazz, your words are amazingly similar, if not verbatim to Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, and a host of other preachers/leaders that were later found to be latent homosexuals. Remember, you got to love yourself before you can love others.
Still straight here! I remember Haggard but I don't know who Craig is. Sad to hear that they chose that life style, but that is not my business. How do you know I don't love myself? what made you conclude that?
self hate? i do not hate my self, i do not hate you either. I am just expressing my self freely. And amen! peace to you, too. It is never late to change.
With that in mine, it disgusts me to hear this woman compare Monsieur Robinson to Jesus, who in refusing to abolish the old law commanded it upon us. Robinson is preaching lie. I personally don't care about homosexuality. I think it's creepy, but I take no personal offense beyond the fact that the bible calls it a sin. We have all sinned. It's no different from thinking lustfully about a woman. But the integrity of the church is at stake here, and Robinson is corrupting it with this lie.
Luvcoffey, you missed my point entirely. The problem is not that Gene Robinson is a homosexual- we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, My problem with Robinson is that he is directly contradicting the bible by claiming such behaviour is alright in God's eyes. Leviticus is clear on the subject and Jesus himself said that he did not come to abolish the old law. Therefore, as followers of Christ, we can conclude homosexuality is sin and for Robinson to say different is apostasy
Merkkyrr. Relax man. You are apparently bothered by support for Bishop Robinson. I was simply asking a question regarding something you said. Thats ok if you cant name a well known church leader that could, without disgust, be compared to Jesus, under any circumstance. I suspect it is a challenge. Continued.#2
#2. Merkkyrr. Also, for the sake of discussion, Lets grant that the bible we are using is (KJV), your interpretation of KJV is the correct interpretation, and that homosexuality is only a behavior and a sin. Lets also grant Gene Robinson holds that homosexual behavior is a sin, appears to continue his sin, and continues to be a leader in the church. If this was the scenario, what would your response be?
Look, we all know what the bible has to say on homosexuality. We can go back and forth on that forever. The point is that this man has claimed a highly influental office within the church and is using it to forward his own agenda that is NOT in accordance with the old testament laws and the teachings of Jesus in the new testamen, where he clearly says he did not come to abolish the old law. He is leading the church on the path of apostasy, whether the bible is right or not.
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 1 Cor.6:9
Does Mr Robinson say Jesus was lying when he said:
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh" (Genesis 2:24).
Jesus takes us back to the beginning:
"And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh" (Matthew 19:4,5
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 1 Cor. 6:9

"If you encounter someone who is dangerously in the wrong then isn't it the caring thing to do to point this out and urge them to change?"
That's exactly what Gene is trying to do.

How do you know I don't love myself? what made you conclude that?
jelejazz 3 years ago
jelejazz, I never held that I knew you dont love yourself. You just seem full of self hate. Thats ok though. We all go through phases....peace.

self hate? i do not hate my self, i do not hate you either.

Merkkyrr, can you name a religious leader who, if compared to Jesus, would not cause you disgust? Rick Warren?
Luvcoffey 3 years ago 2

Luvcoffey 3 years ago
