The story behind this song, so I hear, is Paul Simon said he could write a song about any subject and Art Garfunkel challenged him to write a songand chose Frank Lloyd Wright at random. He done a fine job.
i really dont think that this song is about Frank Lloyd Wright at all i think its about a lost love its really sorta outstanding. simon and garfunkel always know how to just make it hit right at home
Haha my friend LOVES Simon and Garfunkel and was doing a project (and simultaneously adoring) Frank Lloyd Wright. She found this song and was in heaven!
I don't like the whole "No one writes music like they did back in the day..." thing, but... there's a melodic and especially, harmonic richness to a song like this that, well...
At the end one of the recording engineers shouts: "So Long, Artie". Apparently because he was getting tired of Art Garfunkel repeating the 'So Long' line at the end! Great in-joke, I always wondered where it came from... but it works!
At the end one of the recording engineers shouts: "So Long Already, Artie". Apparently because he was getting tired of Art Garfunkel repeating the 'So Long' line at the end! Great in-joke, I always wondered where it came from... but it works!
I loved this song as a kid - it made me look him up in my World Book Encyclopedia - can never look at his work, read or hear about him without thinking of this. Thanks for posting!
@mindyspark One of those songs where you wonder, just how did someone decide to write lyrics featuring an Architect? ...and, why isn't there a song favorably reminiscing about an Engineer? : ) Glad you stopped by - thanks for commenting.
@Plans4Nobody haha - there is definitely a song about Engineers - it's not reminiscing about them but rather what an Engineer might say to a girl while dancing with her. "I'd Rather Dance With You" by the Kings of Convenience. I love that personality type.
@Plans4Nobody This song was written by Paul Simon for Art Garfunkel, who had studied architecture and as a student was very much inspired by the creations of Frank Lloyd Wright.
@Plans4Nobody - I understood (through a documentary) Simon wrote the lyrics having Garfunkel in mind. It was the time they split up. And Art Garfunkel was/is a huge fan of the FLW.
@Plans4Nobody Well, this song is really dedicated to Art Garfunkel when he decided to leave the duo. Since Art wanted to be an architect, Paul just called him Frank Lloyd Wright for fun.

@Plans4Nobody These are the kind of songs I looked for on the albums....ones that would never get on the radio.....most people never take the time to find these "treasures" and I'm so glad they included songs like this on the albums back then.... they weren't too worried about a "formula" and just recorded what was important to them....thanks for posting it here....
@Sunsong23 Hi, Song! I've not been your way in a while...glad you wandered by. Thanks for viewing and commenting - not nearly as well-done as your videos, so the compliment is flattering!
Thanks! It took some doing to schedule the photo excursion, process the photos to my liking, and pull it all together...I appreciate your watching and commenting.

@MrDogfoodan That`s why he sings the lines " I never thought the song would come so soon. I barely learnt the tune."

"Architects may come and architects may go and never change your point of view"
I am simply addicted to this part <3.

Love FLW and this song, wish the houses shown were actually his designs! :D

i think its a reference to Garfunkel who had thought about studying architecture. It was clear to Simon that this was the end or so the story goes.

Incredible group. No one bad song. Even Beatles have (bad) ones , S&G haven't.
Irreproachable taste. Vagif.

the chords in this remind me so much of moonriver - both brilliant songs.

it's nothing to do with frank lloyd wright. it's about simon and garfunkel splitting up, with frank lloyd wright being a nickname for garfunkel.
