I have the Smith and Wesson 22a, is this weapon replacing that one in their line up or are they going to continue to produce it? The 22a has over 2,000 rounds of CCI's and Winchester white box competition semi auto. I have only had 1 failure to fire in all that with the 22a, it has proven to be the most reliable semi auto I own! Easily more reliable then the M&P 9 I have owned longer then the 22a. I just hope S&W Doesn't ignore such a well designed pistol for a common look to their M&P Line.
I was looking forward to Smith & Wesson @ Shot Show 2012; to release a J-Series revolver in .357 Sig with the 3" barrel. I'll just have to keep carrying my Model 60. I did think the new S&W Walther P22 (.22 LR) Pistol, with integrated laser was sweet, and it left room for rail and other attachments. Best regards
Jeff, A Question. Have you ever heard of a striker fired .22 lr. wish someone would make on, might fix some of the problems in automatic rimfire guns and would probably be a blast to shoot. Seeing the same trigger on the Mp22 as on the centerfire models made me wonder. Thank's.
If you had to choose between this .22LR handgun and the Ruger SR22, which one would you choose? I am leaning toward the Ruger since it is made here in the USA.. But I am still undecided..
Nice beard, myself I haven't shaved since April 11, 1977, I only trim by setting fire to it when it gets long enough to hang out past the edge of my welding helmet, just subscribed, enjoy the visa.
Jeff, I really enjoy your "to the point" reviews. You give a good overall rundown of the feel and size of the gun and some shooting time. It is just right. Really looking forward your shot show coverage too. Thanks
I do not know. The new Stingers are really no more powerful than many other loads, but the original Stingers were some real screamers. That is probably the reason.
@Gunblastdotcom Regarding the Stinger question, I understand the case on the Stinger is slightly longer than a standard 22lr. The difference is very small - put two side-by-side to see. The Ruger 10/22 manual makes the same warning not to use them.
I don't _know_, but CCI Stinger has a longer case than .22 lr should have, which the 15-22's might not reliably accept (fire out of battery? ejection clearance?). Or possibly even be a damage risk to the lands.
Another great vid Jeff. this one looks like one to consider for the case. But S&W says not the use Stingers in the M&P 15-22. I have assume to the way you went through. they aren't a problem.
We had a tornado blow through last year, which took down a bunch of trees and a garage building on my property. Thankfully, my house was unharmed, only yards away.
Looks like the M&P will be one the top choices for the 22 lr. Very smart decision on going with a 12 round magazine. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe only S&W is the offering factory mags over 10 rounds. Wonder why it took so long for other companies to come in the picture of these style of 22 pistols.
@Gunblastdotcom Yes, you did, at the end of the written review. However, you made no mention of that fact in your video, whereas you made it abundantly clear in your video review of the Colt Government Model 1911 .22LR. That becomes important to those of your viewers who tend to bash Walther products, and to those who tend not to read your written reviews.
Very nice. Thanks for the review/demo. 12 rounds in the magazine? Well, I guess it's better than 10. Just wondering aloud here: is there something about the 22 that makes manufacturers limit the magazine capacity for pistols? My M&P9 holds 17 and my M&P 40 holds 15.
@scooter17568 It being a rimmed cartridge makes it difficult to double stack in a magazine. It can happen (see the Kel-Tec PMR-30's 30 round magazine with .22 magnum rimfire), but loading of the magazine is tedious and reliability can be an issue if you don't load that magazine correctly.
@woodroez Thanks! That makes sense. I should have been able to figure that out. Guess we've got some work to do on our new double stack 22 magazine invention and then race to the patent office. Our names will be remembered with Colt and Browning!
Great review Jeff & nice muzzle blast off the hot .22s~ you have a lot of fans in Las Vegas~ a free zone where you can pull off the road 5 miles out of town and shoot anything you want on BLM land.
@sjr341 While it is enclosed within the slide and not exposed, the S&W M&P 22 pistol is hammer-fired and not striker-fired as the other models in the M&P line are.
@pcnotpc59 - Interesting, thanks. I just assumed it was striker-fired. Personally, I'd like the SR22 so that I may slowly ease the hammer down on the empty chamber just because its a rimfire.
sweet .22!i`ll have to look into one!i have a full size 9mm model and would take one over a glock all day and any day!much better pistol and american to boot!(i know glock has a place in georgia;but still not an american company)
@Antrieb530 I also have a M&P 9 and prefer it over any glock I have owned. You just have to be in love with a 40 to put up with the extra recoil and higher priced ammo. Speer god dot +P's in 9mm as good as a 40 in my book.
@Antrieb530 My brother had a Glock 27 and even though I'm a late Glock fan, it's the one model I didn't really care for. My brother's Glock 27 had a great deal of felt recoil, to me at least. I like my Glock 30, but I never really cared for the 27.
I have the Smith and Wesson 22a, is this weapon replacing that one in their line up or are they going to continue to produce it? As long as the 22A keeps selling, they will keep making it, or until it is banned by our government.

The S&W M&P .22 is a hammer-fired pistol made in Germany by Walther, not a striker-fired pistol made in the United States by Smith & Wesson.
