I t was considered cool back then to wear ratty secondhand suits so he is dressed quite hip for the time period. I bought a few suits from secondhand clothing stores. I had a tuxedo jacket from the 50s that was very nice, even had a suit from the 40s. There was a shop on Kings Rd, London that only sold old clothing. Don't worry kids, in 20 years you will be slapping your forehead when you see old photos of you wearing sillybands, gigantic wrist bands and goofy Bieber haircuts so STFU.
As I kissed away a thousand tears, my lady of the various sorrows, some begged some borrowed some stolen, some kept safe tomorrow........ oooh yeah Nick, I've definitely been there.

Come on guys it's not V-kei or a boysband, nobody should give a fuck about his hair, moustache or whatever the Hell he is wearing. We are lucky enough he's that hot and able to pull off a lot of styles, but it's totally unimportant. He's a fantastic musician and the band is amazing, that's really all we really need. I'm not looking at a picture of him when I walk with my headphones on and him in it. He's awesome as a musician, end of the question.
@ZRedPoppy But when a musician with such class and sophistication performs live, it's important for him to have a good image. I mean, Tom Waits wouldn't be Tom Waits if it wasn't for his looks and clothing. David Bowie wouldn't be David Bowie if it wasn't for his constant invention of fashion senses. These people are not just musicians, they're classy motherfuckers.
@cannabisabuser I disagree. Tom Waits wouldn't be TW if he did't have his voice and attitude. David Bowie based his first characters on the fashion of the time but he's distanced himself from that now. As for Nick Cave, just watch Stagger Lee's video. His clothes are outrageous but he's still fantastic. Since they're not shallow artists, they don't need a well cut tuxedo to have an impact on us. They're indeed very classy motherfuckers, and this whatever they do and wear.
@ZRedPoppy Personally, I think he looks better without the 'stache. Also, I think, for the most part, the music was better, too. Plus, I'm blaming the 'stache for scaring off Blixa Bargeld and Mick Harvey.
Please don't take the last sentence seriously, I just want them back in the band, that's all.
@ZRedPoppy i'd give 2 thumbs up to that comment if i could! nick is a lyrical genius, and the band is awsome too(glad you didn't forget the band!) peace :)
@ZRedPoppy actually, i think that the way muisicans dress and how they look say a lot about them. Bands are much more than just music, they portray lifestyles, ways to look at life (at least good bands). If there wasnt any difference...then why see a band live or watch a live performance? I really feel your urge to say that because people just complain and get into discussions on tiny details and superficial things, but i feel i must stress that appearance is truly important for musicians.
@carlosandresasdfg Are you implying a blind person can't appreciate music to its full value? If I go to a live, it's to FEEL the power of the artists. Style IS something great and interesting, and I agree, define genres partly, but not fully. Do you think Bach and Beethoven or Mozart would have been any less grand had they worn rags? I really don't think so. There is a difference between the boundaries our societies impose on us, and what art triggers in us. Question of sensibility.
my comment mean, I don't care about his hair since he is providing us such great music, but in the end, you probably right, he doesn't care about OUR being. in fact, it's my favourite song by him.
Like i drank shitloads of piss, caused shitloads of trouble, banged ugly fat drunkin tarts, smoked a cuntload of weed, ran a fuckin mile from the pigs........THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES NICK CAVE ......you had us fuckin, under your spell during the 80 's,90's.ha ha!......fuckin loved the birthday party.........................
this was the first song i ever heard of them...i was 15 and had never heard anything like their music...i was dizzy and hypnotized...12 years since then and I adore them!
the live one offers something more intimate an less thought-processed..i love it..an his voice is js so wats da word incredible even dats an understatement.

@cannabisabuser if you don't get Nick Cave's dress sense, does that mean you don't get his music?
