my tp played up but strangely enough..., the problem went away. in my opinion ppl are too rough with laptops. Same as with the dvd/cd player. The batt is an issue. They claim it has 7 hours duration. I get by only on 4 hours. Thats disappointing,

I just saw a video that this girl had an iMac g5 i think, and she showed that she could not even turn it on! as soon as she did, the fan was super loud and a few seconds later it went to sleep!!

i've also been encountering battery problems!! i thought it was just me, and then my sister started complaining that her battery life span was really short too. we both just got the new macbook pro late 2008 15". and at first apple claimed that it lasts 5 hours. to our dismay ours only lasts 3n a half, 4 hours at best. and just today, i got an email from apple who changed their claim to 6 hours, 7 hours at best for the 15" inch. have u reported ur batt prob to apple??

i had problems with my late 2008 aluminum macbook battery and i took it in to the apple store they checked it out and found out the battery was messed so they replaced it for free and i just bought an extra one just incase somethin else goes wrong!

ure probably using higher or max settings, u should put it on low settings to get it up to 7 hours

i already did. and btw i got the models that came out in february 2009. which claimed 5 hours, but are only performing at 3-3.5 hours. im so bummed. coz i put everything on low setting, even the screen is just at 3. 3 out of 16. my model still has the foto card insert on the left side, and the battery still hot swappable. had i known they would release new batches in july that had twice as much memry, faster RAM and way longer battery, i wouldv waited. gawds this is torture just talkin bout it.

most people have shown that 7 hours is possible but i dont know why urs doesnt work, btw did u put the graphics to 9400m instead of both 9600gt and 9400m

no no, mine is not the 7 hours one. mine is the 5 hours model that came out in february of 2009. and even then its not running at 5 hours, only 3 hours now. it used to run til 3.5-4 but now it goes down to 5% in 3 hours :(

i just switched to a mac from a pc. i dont know how. can u show me how to set the graphics from 9400m instead of both 9600gt and 9400m? i hope that will make all the diff

ive seen them do it on youtube, just check for it, and by the way if ure running windows on the mac, it will automatically use the 9600gt which consumes more battery

Actualy it uses whichever card you were last using on OSX. Windows relies on the Bios to switch Graphics adaptops. If you switch to the 9400m in OSX then boot to Windows it will use the 9400m. The only way to then switch is to reboot to OSX and change to the 9600 and boot Winows again.

my battery lasts up to 4 hours 20 minutes on mid brightness while surfing the net normally. doing anything else, like watching videos, listening to music, editing videos/photos, etc puts it to around 2 hours 30 minutes depending on what task it is, which is still more than my last laptop

The only "problems" apple has are just in its design, never the internal workings of the computer itself. I have the white crackbook that came out mid 2007. The top nibs causes the top case on either side of the trackpad to crack over time, which could expose the HD to air. I got this fixed though. Got a whole brand new top case. As a computer, it still works like a charm.

You didn't mension anything about the heat problems or didn't you have any? I have a macbook pro 2,4GHz with a 4GB RAM (the 2008 aluminium model) and I have to say it gets quite hot after using it medium for about an hour or two (word, msn and itunes running). I've seen you playing far cry 2 on it (bootcamp i supose) you must have had heat issues then? or am I the only one that has such a 'HOT' notebook? ')

It's normal for it to get hot. My macbook gets hot. Just take it off of your lap when it gets hot. Or put something on top of your lap before you place the macbook on your lap.

For the firewire maybe try ebay theyhave like tons of firewires im hoping to get the new aluminium macbook it has no firewire but on ebay you can get firewire to usb cables so its not much of a problem ^_^

Just call 1800 MY APPLE and they'll tell you exactly what it means. Any time there's a problem with anything, it lets you know right when you turn it on when it shows the apple logo and plays the little chime.

You never need to return any apple product. If it's been less than a year, take it to the apple store and have the genius take a look at it. If there's something wrong with it he'll fix it right then or there or you can pick it up later in the week. BUY APPLECARE!! You can also call 1800 MY APPLE and explain what your problem is, he'll give you a case number and you can set up an appointment at the genius bar at your nearest apple store.

I noticed the battery thing to, sometimes it'll go 4 hours or two hours, but I guess it depends on what I'm doing. You would think it would last longer than the previous MBP because of the LED screen and integrated gfix card option.

Yes but the 9600M GT turns on whenever you need it instantaneously so you really don't know for sure if it is on one or the other. You always have to consider hard-drive usage and spin ups. Just another thought.

Use the software update tool dude! click the apple logo at the top left hand corner of your screen and click "software update..." :D It should appear there as 10.5.6 update :D

I believe the new MBP uses FireWire 800, so the only adaptor you would need is the firewire 800 to 400, but that's only if you use 400. Oh and the 9600 GT just has been predicted to have the same problems of overheating that the 8600 did, but that's a firmware fix, not hardware.

Ya. The one's I'm referring to are the late '08 models-the ones with the new LED screen. The bubble-popping sound on these seems to occur randomly, although it would be about once every three minutes.

I have experienced, and others have as well (as seen in numerous forums online), a "bubble bursting sound" coming form the macbook (regardless of the speakers being on or not). Also, many people have reported incompatibilities with external monitors (including apple monitors).

On my MBP the door underneath has started to make noise (squeak), not a huge problem but its one of those things that can get worse over time.

Otherwise no issues other than ones I caused myself.

Great video. I hadn't heard about the screen hinge non-stiffness issue. For me. I would never purchase an Apple revision with a screen like that because I know the hinges get looser and looser, so after 4 years (how long I keep my things), the screen would be absolutely ridiculous.

For the Battery Life of the MacBook Pro, I heard you can definitely change the settings on running the MacBook with the Nvidia 9600 Graphics card or without it. It sets the battery life an hour back if you use the Nvidia Graphics Card.

hey man great videos. i wanted to know if you notice how the isight camera picks up light even when it is off. so for instance, if you get close to it, the screen dims, and when you go further, it lightens. this has been annoying me a little because of the constant change of screen brightness. do know if you can turn this feature off?

its not the isight, theirs little light detectors in the speaker grills. To stop this click the apple in the top menu bar, click system preferences, then click displays, then uncheck the "auto adjust brightness as light changes."

I've owned the MBP for a little over a month and there are 3 main things I noticed:

1. the trackpad doesn't detect my thumb very well when I'm trying to rotate or zoom photos

2. if you look at the screen from a slight angle the image wont be perfect.

3. the click is loud.

The new screens are supposed to be looser so it feels smoother. The old MBP hinges were very stiff and had a little 'flop' to them when you push it before it actually moved.

Biggest problem i have with the apple laptop is that fact that i can't change the default media player. I am a new mac user, just bought this laptop a few weeks ago, was a windows user. So if anyone has the solution please let me know.

simple dude..just right click on the file youre trying to open for example an mp3 file, right click on it, select "open with" and you'll notice there'll be choices of programs. at the bottom of the list, there is an option "other" to selects programs not in the list. click on that and there will be a checkbox in the window saying "always use this program" or something like that. check that box and select your preferred program. cheers and good luck.

owh sorry i've just realized that by doing that it just changes the default program for only that one file and not the other mp3s too...well here's another solution..right click on an mp3 file, then select get info. you will see dropdown tabs and one of it is "open with:". select that tab and you can choose your default program and hit "change all"..

I have a Macbook Pro (but the higher end model) I agree with all your issues. And I have experienced them all myself. One other issue

Every now and then when I click, the curse shifts down about an inch, which screws me up.

Do you have that problem?

Anyways, this laptop is superb.

Have you ever calibrated your battery? You should do it once a month on your MacBook/Pro. It's best if your going to be using your computer for awhile. But here goes, just leave it unplugged and on.let the battery drain. It should go to sleep, leave it like so for about 30 min. Then Charge it to full, they say its best if your using it while it charges ,but anyways just let it charge up to 100% and leave it plugged in for at least 3 hours,
