  • This is like nothing I've ever heard before. All of his solos in his studio songs sound so different from this, but even so, this is still magnificent. John is the essential musician.

  • When you lissent malmsteen just dead shread no feelings...satriani he owershiting with that Hendricks lick....Petrucci is my choice!!!!

  • Just can't find words.....

  • Ah much more fusion-like than speed metal, love it!

  • who's the bass player?

  • @Kalipto91 John Myung

  • I still have the videotape of this wonderful concert! Best DT perfomance!

  • Who can argue this awesome shit. Has it all, musicality, technical prowess, rhythm, soul, groove. A great inspiration to guitarists everywhere.

  • You're totally right, his best solo. Every note is calculatedly soulful, and it makes up for something musical and enjoyable for anyone who as ears. (and eyes too, in this very case)

  • 5:31

    Myung: Fuck this shit...

  • I really enjoyed. In those days, the technique was in favor of music. Today, Petrucci remains impressive, but sometimes it is too fast to be musical ...

  • he got feeling

  • was improvisation?

i wouldnt be surprised at all

  • such a jam band feel to it

  • I would agree that this is his best solo ever (at least that I have seen).

  • jp gives me passion play to the guitar (h)

  • The guy can grow some serious hair too.

  • nearly 4:51 - even god misses notes sometimes :D

  • petrucci é o cara

  • Portnoys drumming is awesome as well..

  • This song contains some of the most beautiful guitar playing ever. I constantly return to it to hear perfect melodies and harmony.

  • Why the lack of comments on Portnoy?

  • @MlKEPORNTOY Because his playing isn't that great on this piece :P

  • This is like... my 2nd favorite guitar solo of all time, ever.

  • @blahkaw98 the first?

  • @backseatdriver03 That would have to be "Time" by Pink Floyd.

  • I banged his wife.

  • godlike.

  • "John."

    "Yes, God?"

    "Please take this guitar."

  • Within You Without You !!!!!!!!!!! George Harrison on 1:25

  • amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He is my guide, i fucking like him...i don't care who dont like himmmm...fuckkk

  • that tone is amazing

  • I don't see what the fuss is. He can play sure but it did not sound that great considering the work that went into it. Technical vs. Sound.... hmmmmmm... SOUND!!! Syn, Alexi, and Friedman are better. The dudes from Slayer rock too from what little I have seen. Dont get me wrong Petrucci can play it just does not sound great.

  • @BFMVfanatic879 you know what elses doesnt sound great? BFMV

  • @bengals12125

That all you got fanboy. I said he is good it just does not sound good to me. Get over it. Not everyone will agree with you. I just don't like his style.

  • @BFMVfanatic879 So you mean a few Dm sweep picks over 4/4 time and the heaviest distortion known to man is 'Sound'? I guess so... it's definitely not music...

  • @dbzaddict444

I just don't like his sound get over it. To each his own. I am not saying he sucks I just dont like how he sounds. Get over it. You are acting like a teenage girl who is not getting her way... GROW UP!!! BTW I am not arguing anymore with you losers who can't read my comments and STFU. Trolls be trolling.

  • @roomartim What is the name of this solo?

  • Lovely melodies... I adore Petrucci!!

  • Nice tone, beautiful phrasing, great playing and very special and similar. Big influences of Blues and Jazz - Great job!!!

  • these were the days where he had a fresh and awesome sound....now it's boring imo

  • beautiful phrasing

  • I love his playing but i really miss the way he played in the 90s. I know every guitar player evolves over time but i really miss john petrucci of the 90s.

  • he is so good a rainbow came out of his guitar 4:19

  • This song is of my favorite song from his solo

  • Nice to see Myung playing in his city of birth.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY Myung was born in Chicago lol.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY But of course you already know that.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY and myung's half korean, not japanese lol.

  • Petrucci is... .... .... I don't have a word...

  • @sAwAi1992 spectrificus. Noun. Definition: So intense that it could only come from John Petrucci thus deserving its own word.

  • R.I.P. Dream Theater, you will be missed

  • The best of time

  • 4:20 Petrucci reached musical rainbowed nirvana.

  • ladies and geltemen : THIS MAN IS GOING TO KICK YOUR FUCKIN ASS WITH HIS GUITAR!!!

  • Petruccelli's a pentatonic wanker.

  • miss those cute Ibaneze's he used at those times... :I AWESOME solo btw

  • Gorgeous guitar.. The painting fits his playing style in this era perfectly.

  • @nietjob Gorgeous playing too.

  • Within You Without You @ 1:26. Pretty cool John whether it was or was not intentional

  • @tighttritenight Thanks for the comment. I was thinking "WHERE DO I KNOW THIS FROM?!?!?!" :D

Totally intentional, I think. When does God Petru... John Petrucci ever do anything unintentional?

  • @tighttritenight Obviously intentional!!

  • is those nikes JP using? 4:45

  • I love this, it kind of reminds me of some of Brian May's work.

  • I love this solo! i wish this was available on cd.

  • @vman3278 it is! To live forever from the album " Images And Words - Live In Tokyo "

  • GALLOWS HILL- FACE OUR FEAR

PROGRESSIVE SEPT 11 TRIBUTE. (warning, grephic pics) tells a story, music from my old band GALLOWS HILL (((not the other gallows hill bands on youtube)))

  • Man his ibanezes sounded way better than his music mans. And that is nothing specific about just this period - it sounded like this all the way up to falling into...

Much more chunky and kind of twangy tone

  • @xamundx Shut up, don't "Post EVERYWHERE", that's called spam, and while I think Metallica kicks fuckin' ass and takes names, annoying little pricks like you give'em a bad name, yea dig?

  • This same song also holds one of James LaBrie's greatest vocal solos/runs/what ever. It's To Live Forever Live in Tokyo. Check it out if you haven't.

  • Don't try this at home! 51 already tried.

  • Holy shit..

  • Sonic child abortion.

  • John Petrucci for President 2012

  • i cum

  • 1:25 The Beatles - Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows

    :)

  • Personally, i prefer this ''old'' Petrucci. Long hair, baddass ibanez.... Not saying that now he isn't good, just that i prefer his work during this period. :)

  • Great sound :)

  • man, hes so well rounded as a guitarist

  • it`s petrucci`s best solo of all time!

  • It's like ice cream in my ears.

  • woohoo petrucci!

  • im seeing him like in september cant wait (-:

  • I think his best solos are in the EPIC "Six Degrees..." song parts like: About to crash etc

  • i think the Surrended live solo is better (ofc with the mother) but this is awsome too :) he is god himself... :)

  • lets find those 49 dislikes and kill them

  • @Vacidity or, we could just enjoy the music, and not kill anyone, lol

  • @Vacidity 50 now. xD

  • 1:26 is Within You And Without You

  • @LordPresidentJimian i was just about to say that!!

  • I was watching this and then all of a sudden I looked down and there it was.... an erection.

  • @killerocha Hahahahaha same :L

  • Who played the better solo, Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix? Great head-to-head comparison here:

    /watch?v=Gf85d0fxiNw

  • Another proof petrucci is god: 4:19 he starts spitting rainbow.

  • @duefoscari I was actually about to engage you in some intelligent conversation about why you think Dream Theater stands for bad music, but then i saw you had The Pixies as one of your favorite videos.

    ...I guess I shouldn't waist my time.

  • @bradkroll90 The Pixies are a great band. Fuck off with your prejudice.

  • Comment removed

  • @bradkroll90

Whoops, responding to the wrong person. My bad.

  • this is truly one of the greatest solos ...it contains in some way the evolution of guitar ..starting with simple but pretty phrases..moving toward ..country and rock and then fusion/classical and finally jazz...if you learned this entire solo you would enough guitar for a life time of performance..it may even outline Johns development...he is such a fine player

  • was this improvised? we can never know with these guys lol

  • ERA FLACO !!!!! ERA FLACO !!! los esteroides lo mataron :(

  • @duefoscari Wat?

  • @duefoscari

god like guitar player.... unfortunately, not on the greatest band.

  • @kroyax7 Are you high? Have you ever seen Myung, Rudess, or Mangini play their instruments?

  • @duefoscari

Let me guess, you are one of those people that think DT is bad because they are overly complicated, their songs are too long and too crazy. You are fully aware that those are pretty much the same concept of Classical and Jazz music right? If DT stands for bad music then Classical and Jazz also stand for bad music. The difference is DT took those Classical and Jazz elements and did made something new with them.

  • I want the same guitar!!!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN you are a god

  • Petrucci is a god put on this earth to amaze us all, no one in history will ever be this amazing.

  • 'Within You Without You' . The Beatles.

John's one is an evident tribute.

  • This makes me glad to be a guitar player.

  • @Bokajmunar me too....

  • @Bokajmunar i like that! some would see this and think "wow ill never be that good" and get discouraged. U put it perfectly. This is inspiring and just makes u want to get better doesnt it?

  • The solo in take the time is even better!

  • sounds like a beatles song

  • THIS is music!!!

  • Black Veil Brides!!

  • just got an orgasm ! AWSOME !

  • best guitar

  • Holy fuck... If only I could ahve a bit of that skill or that hair...

  • great guitar player, one of my favorites

  • Great,in my opinion the Ibanez sounds better than the Musicman....

  • @ABrandNewName1 well, the solo isnt bad..the acoustic part is very good but the tone on the second....horrible...nice phrasing and nice technique but the tone is so cold...its only my opinion

  • Looks like i gotta clean up a mess again. I gotta stop watching Petrucci

  • PETRUCCI is maybe the most complete rock guitarist of all times...what a great performance,he was really inspired, i think it's impossible to beat this.

  • UN RICO SOLO DE PETRUCCI PARA DORMIR RICO!!!

  • 5:32 I just came...

  • the perfect combination of Tecnique and Feeling ..

  • Just awesome, I wish I could have been around for this but I was still in my stroller while this was going on!

  • Petrucci please return to Ibanez

  • @weischamp hell no.

  • @waaluss why not? confront the solos from images and words era with the new solos...they are only fast, with bad tone....in "learning the live" his solo is structured, he thought with chords, now he shreds and not more......his tone was much better here

  • @weischamp Why in the world would you want that? His MusicMan guitars are beautiful!

  • Its within you without you...

    Hes grandfather of jesus

  • awesome

  • Astonishingly classy playing.

  • COOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL

  • This is the tune to a Beatles song, from 1:27

  • WHAT CAN I SAY.JUST BRILLIANT

  • The last jazzy part is awesome, my favourite guitarrist without a doubt!

  • ESTE SOLO DE JPHN PETRUCCI ME RELAJA Y ME PONE FELIZ PARA COMENZAR EL DIA CON MUCHO ANIMO

  • portnoy is there..

    ........

    T.T

  • Best solo I have ever heard!!!!

  • @op34100 you're fucking retarded

  • @MrMattyfatty69 I had to dig through all the comments to find out why calling somebody fucking retarded would put you in the top comments.

    I can see why now.

  • @abortionsrock It's much easier to click "View all Comments" and then press Ctrl F to search for the name of whoever posted it. Takes about five seconds.

  • @op34100 you obviously don't know a thing about guitar if you think a guy with a gimp mask and a bucket of KFC on his head is better than Petrucci

  • miss the old john :(

  • @TheReddvd things evolve, bud. on the bright side, he's still an insanely great player.

  • *clicks on video and reads comments*

*thinks wtf do metallica and megadeth have to do with john petrucci's best solo!?

  • @MrSlickops best comment i've seen all friggin YEAR.

  • his tone is perfect

  • He's the reason why been playing for ten years. He's the best!

  • hey john, you don t mind if I propose you to exchange your hands for my soul, right?

  • este vago es increible!... es impresionante la habilidad que tiene... es mi gran influencia...

  • string mute fail at 1:04 - 1:05 ?

  • @youubar Wow u really are a moron lol

  • his tone here is the best ibanez forever!!!

  • Wow... You can really really hear that Joe Satriani gave him lessons, he plays exactly like him

  • Comment removed

  • @zwiemenoe

Lessons from Satriani? I don't think so. Influenced by Joe, yes.

  • @zcsutak No, Joe Satriani really gave him lessons when he was even a little younger then this,

  • @zwiemenoe Maybe you're right. It is very hard to find anything about their relationship before G3s. However, both are great guitarists and I love their style.

  • @zcsutak Yeah I know, :D

  • music with all letters , thanks dream theater . Portnoy come back please

  • someone tab this!

  • Definatly my favorite guitarist. Does anyone know if he's influenced by alex lifeson? Sounds like lifeson in the begining

  • @Eddielovemuse90 yes Alex Lifeson and Rush were huge influences for both petrucci and the band alike.

  • ME GUSTA
