nVidia is just as prone to microstutter as ATi is.
Anyone with issues either failed to properly build thier system, or needs to re-install OS.
I've been running both Crossfire and SLi since I put up this video over 2 years ago, and haven't had nearly so many problems as with the 3870x2. Again, ATi ahs openly said that this specific problem was due to hardware design. They ahve not made the same mistake since, although, 2x 5970 Corssfire, again, with 4x gpus, is pci-e bandwidth starved.
im sorry man, but the cause is the crossfire... for the next buy, cash for a monogpu graphis (For ati), NVIDIA MULTIGPU DONT HAVE MUCH MICROSTUTTERING
Thanks for the info, as it may help some other people, unfortunately, not me. It was a truly frustrating experience dealing with 3870x2 Crossfire...I ended up going with 4870's, then 4890's, and am now using 5870's in Crossfire. The 48xx were OK cards, but this 5870 Eyefinity has me dealing with a whole host of other issues now.
I don't quiite understand why you insist that it's an issue caused by faulty hardware.
I was running a Maximus Formula SE(X38) in that video, and afterwords got an Foxconn BlackOPs(X48) direct from Foxconn's head office in Taiwan. See other video.
Anyway, your choice of P45 motherboard would hurt performance, being 8x8 in CrossfireX. 3870x2 is not pci-e 2.0.
AMD released Sideport on 4870x2 to avoid this issue, but fixed issues with drivers. the problem is from PCI-E 1.1 chip on vga.
lol if it is not psu related then why did you think that the problem is not bad with single card? check if your psu is TRULY RATED and make sure you are suppling enoung AMPS on CARD and PROSSESSOR, your prossessor is a decent on so im sure it is not bottlenecking your card
(note: i have the stuttering issue before when i am using 2x 8800gt in sli and it stutters like hell but when i change my psu to 800w realpower coolermaster the problem has go away!)
oh i see, so your problem is your motherboar not supplying enough rails in pcie, p45 nowadays are very cheap check at newegg you can fing good deals on mobos
I actually didnt recognise any microstuttering at all in this vid but when I watched a maxishine vid with gtx280 tri sli it is very noticeable even though he gets a solid 40 fps
It's really obvious when he's running forward. Eesh. Hard[OCP] has a forum thread about this. They say that the best way to get around it is to use SFR mode. Or, the framerate is way above the monitor's refresh rate. If this is a LCD, you'd want 70-75fps so that the stutter isn't visible by the time the display refresh happens. In Crysis this is hard (with quality on) to achieve.
Please update if a driver patch fixes this. The 4870X2 is rumored to have a fix for their bridge. *shrug*

AMD said it was a badnwidth issue with high res, due to the choice of PCI-E 1.1 switch. Old news, I'm now running Eyefinty with 5870 Crossfire....
cadaveca 1 year ago
Its cause of that controller.
JuggaloARBY 1 year ago
NO, is cause of the crossfire

i think your problem is about your psu not supplying enough juice..
you should upgrade your psu and post the results
raclimja16 3 years ago
you sir need to delete your post.
it is not psu related at all. the problem is called micro stuttering.

Enermax Galaxy DxX 1000w is more than adequate, and is listed on AMD's compatibility list for this config in the video.
Please also be aware that AMD has openly commented that the problem stems from a lack of bandwidth from using a PCI-E 1.1 switch between the gpus.

Is it distracting?

Um, yeah. it really sucks, and it's in far more applications than even I thought.
cadaveca 3 years ago
I notice it now. That really sucks. It seems it's been fixed with the HD 4800 series though. Or at least that's what Sampsa over at XS has found....
