@EASTENDGLEN I doubt it. They caught the fools who did it pretty quickly (they were stupid enough to use rented cars). Didn't really figure into anything beyond that and wasn't mentioned further (i.e. used as an excuse).
its funny i was going to say the same thing. whats the point of burning a bank. making a point by taking the jobs away from employers of the RBC. congratulations on ruining the lives of many others in CANADA. thats spelt with a C by the way. Ya your getting a lot of attention from this, try taking a gun and pointing at your head and pulling the trigger, i bet you'll get more attention that way. fucking terroist. you will never be known as people who served this country, just people destroying it
I watched about 300 thugs, criminals go around breaking windows burning police cars while stupid people just stood by doing nothing.
The police should have shot them with rubber bullets and stopped it before it got that far. These are nothing but trouble makers and must not be allowed to destroy our cities just for the fun of it.
So what is this about, Native Terrorism? anti-NWO Bank BBQ? a "Montebello-style" police false flag attack? They seem concerned about "Native Rights" - how will the financial institution flambe help them ?
If you decide that this action is OK it is because of your own personal convictions. Many many people are so disconnected from their surroundings that they feel they just have to cheer on the police( bully worship )watch sports / movies / video games and everything will be OK, such sheeple.
@dna8 I'm wondering that too....makes the video look unintelligent. Burning a bank outlet does nothing also, just helps justify the government's spending of 1.2 billion on security for the g20 in Toronto.
@dna8 This seems to be the "clever" way to denounce Canada -- by associating it with the Ku Klux Klan. Which, of course, is the same as saying that Canada is a Nazi / Fascist / police state. The connections are clear to anyone! (Not to me, mind you, but I've been told repeatedly that I'm an idiot.)
Funny update on this story: apparently the people in the video used a rented vihicle that was equipped with GPS and OnStar. Police say that the suspects will be apprehended "very shortly".
@torontocitylife Thesse bums are not very bright to start with, they are just out to cause as much damage as possible. It is just a game for them to see how much damage they can do in just a couple of days. All those arrested should have to pay for the total damages done in Toronto.
so when you worry about falseflag, but then say, well, they are decent people, they only do civilized things, there are limits, order is 'making things better', think of how this order is allowing large masses of people to be cowed into allowing a few to do things they know are wrong... and to make them... the people without which the cogs of the world would stop turning... feel powerless! now, that IS a puppetmaster!
2. Please don't be violent at the G20. The whole thing will go awry.
3. to all the 'right wing' believers: the distaste towards protesters does nothing either, the support of 'csis','secret service' and well, other 'hitmen' is just as much of a blind-faith as raising your sign in protest. it's just that raising your sign is at least believing in a greater good. the 'I hope they get blasted with water cannons' mindset is so small-minded and pre-civil rights.
@zakhummus "2. Please don't be violent at the G20. The whole thing will go awry."
tell that to the police. oh wait, it's their job to be violent. don't hold us back just because we know whats coming. things always go awry when the criminals are protected by heavily armed body guards and we are the victims. all we can do is defend ourselves and resist the control of the state
want to understand more about militant actions? here is an interview with Juliet Belmas who did firebombings and bombings in KKKanaduh in the early 80s
just do a google search for Militant Feminism by Comrade Black
sigh! capitalism! If you think about it, to open an account you need photo ID of some sort and a fixed address. Homeless obviously don't have the latter and in many situations do not have the proper ID.
They remain at the bottom and the wealthy maintain control.
@playitbyear100 Many of the homeless are there by choice. A lot of them are young people to lazy to work and just out to have fun. I was a welfare administrator for several years and when these bumbs told me they could not find a job I would bring them to my farmer friend. \He ran a dairy farm and just could not find anyone to work. He paid $10.00 hour and they sould work 80 hours if they wanted, none lasted more than a couple of days. Got them off welfare though.
" A lot of them are young people to lazy to work and just out to have fun."
That's an opinion not based on the " I worked for welfare therefore I know"
When and individual apply's for a job he needs to have a place of residence. He needs to have a bank account. These 'bums' that you speak of usually have neither!!
@playitbyear100 There is no reason not to have a job and a bank account. As far as an address is concerned, you can always live at the YMCA until you can affford better.
When you really want to do something you will find a way, when you don't you find and excuse, just like you are doing.
@justanoldman1 ummmm yeah Csis are the criminals in this case, problem - reaction - solution........dont react in a scripted manner and they wont have the power to invade your rights.
@justanoldman1 Tough talk from the armchair warrior who made his money by being a parasite on the poor. Boot lickers like you are the lowest form of human life on the planet next to child rapers. Actually how many poor children did you condemn to the social trash heap while sucking off the public tit screwing the least fortunate in our society. You repulsive little toad. As for those arrested? I really couldn't give a shit to be honest. They made their deal, give no quarter and expect none.
@OscarLimaMike You are just too stupid to be real. I started working when I was 12 years old to help my family put food on the table. That is something you lazy bastards would know nothing about. I worked for 53 years and managed to put a little money aside for retirement so I would not be a burden on my country, agian something you would know nothing about you lazy go for nothing scum.
The bank they burnt was my bank, I even own a few shares of it, they cost the bank lots of money, our money.
@justanoldman1 I'll have you know that I have worked every day of my life since the mid seventies, Usually more than one job. How about moving your money to credit union?
@OscarLimaMike I used to use a credit union but one year they said out of the blue that they would not renew my mortgage. I had a perfect credit rating but they said they had too many mortgages and sorry but I was out. I closed my account and went to the royal bank. Not only did they give me a mortgage but at a lower rate. I have used them ever since. The bank has been very good for me, they have branches everywhere so no problem getting to an ATM. They are also a good corporate citizen.
@OscarLimaMike By the way, we own the banks they are all public on the stock market and you can buy one share and go the the annual shreholders meetings and complain if you have a problem. Sure banks make money but that is their job, I know several people at my branch and they will do just about anything to make you happy. My only complaint with the bank is there are not enough men working there, it seems to be just about all women. We are lucky to have strong banks in Canada.
@justanoldman1 I have to agree with that last statement. That did cost you your money -- not that it needed to. Go downtown to any medium-sized town and look at the financial buildings there -- did frugal spending, saving, and modest gains (all the things banks insist we need to do), produce all that? They take your money, make 20% interest (every quarter--you get a tiny raise in wages every year if you're lucky), and you get their 0.01% pittance interest. Minus service charges, of course.
@torontocitylife Firstly, your figures are way off the charts. If you did what the banks suggest with your money, you would increase your wealth. Of course we want our banks to earn money, that is their job and we also want their buildings to be neat and clean and appealing.
Secondly, the bank help us buy homes, cars etc otherwize we would have to save up before we could buy these items.
The banks are just one tool that we use to manage our money and control our spending.
@playitbyear100 You have a point, but not a single one of the "protesters" lifted a finger to help the homeless. Even when they were camped out in one of downtown Toronto's poorer neighbourhoods (my own, as it so happens). The "protesters" are hypocrites to the Nth degree.
If you're homeless, do you really think opening a bank account is top of mind? Studies have shown that most homeless suffer from at least one mental disorder. Perhaps a better use of time and resources would be trying to end the stigmas that surround mental health or supporting outreach centers.
@daavq How did any of the G20-related actions help the homeless? Or the poor? etc. etc. Apparently these are irrelevant questions. Before the "protests" they were the only relevant questions, just so we're clear. It's all about imperialism. No, wait, capitalism. Fuck it, let's smash some windows.
The aboriginals have to resolve their own problems. To date, I have yet to be served a McDonalds hamburger by an aboriginal. In fact, I havent been interacted in any capacity? Tax free living, unlimited education and preferencial hiring amounted to shit. Now they have elements who have stopped momentarily raping their own children, and have put down the vodka to start a terrorisim campaign. What gratitude.
I cant understand why they attacked RBC. RBC pays taxes to the government who gives money in the form of welfare to these delusional losers. I retract my comment for those anarchists who live off their parents. Many of them have a point- it made news all across the world, as does suicide bombings and being a serial killer.
Maybe you could join forces with Habs rioters and be a real force
They really had to stretch to come up with some moral indignation to try and justify the bombing and possible opportunity to kill or maim innocent workers. I guess it just goes to prove that Canada has a few Morons just like anywhere else. Now that this clear meaning of oppressed rebellion is out there your cause if you can actually draw one from your proposed Dribble should be well supported.
Three jeers to FFFC Ottawa for making all the peaceful protesters and social justice workers who legitimately had a problem with the 2010 Olympics look bad.
Hopefully they won't ruin everyone's legitimate protest at the G20.
@BloggerMusicMan Have fun getting your ass kicked at the G20. At least the anarchists are prepared to fight back while your hippie ass cries for help from the very government that is tazering you and spraying tear gas in your face.
I wonder when you peaceful protesters are going to finally give up on your obsession with non-violence. THE STATE IS VIOLENT. YOU CAN ONLY FIGHT IT WITH VIOLENCE.
Non-violence is not only the most humanitarian strategy but also historically the most effective long term strategy. How did the Indians get free from Britain? How did the South Africans predominantly get rid of the National Party? How did black people and women get rights in the West?
Even when one violent side succeeds in its goals; there is usually only further problems. Think of the Irish in the 20th century for example.
No internet tough guy here, just letting you know whats in store for you if you're thinking about participating at the G20.
Your examples are all fine and dandy, but none of those "revolutions" achieved anarchism or anything near what anarchists fight for.
The point is: At the G20 in Toronto, the police WILL be violent. By being non-violent in return you are only helping the state get away with it's suppression.
Don't hate on anarchists just because they know what to expect
@BloggerMusicMan Go preach non-violence to the Tutsis, if you can find any. Non-violence is only effective when the opposition is not willing to murder/repress any longer. Such is not the case many times.
@BloggerMusicMan you should really read an essay called Arms and the Movement by Peter Gelderloos, it is a short, well writen artical that deconstructs those exact "victories" of nonviolence, and shows that there was also militant movements that played major roles in those struggles which are seldom acknowledged propperly.
@BloggerMusicMan there are many people who do not believe nonviolence works in all cases, or that it is the only option, who are dedicated legitimate activists. By declaring anyone who uses forms of action you disagree with as illegitimate you are creating a very dangerous moral purity based construct.
When the police catch these terrorist and they will, they will spend 25 years in jail for this stupid act of violence. 99.9% of all Canadians are opposed to these type of violent acts of terrorism and they have no place in the modern world. These animals are beyond stupid and dangerous, they are mentally retarded.
@toiletsrus You make it sound like people have no responsibilty for their own action or inaction. The people that lost their homes to the banks are the same people that didn't pay their bills. So what is your point? You want the government to pay your mortgage payments for you, raise your children and put food on the table so you don't have to do anything? The world owes you a living but you have to work like hell to get it.
@moetthepoet The only ones that would think our banks are corrupt institutions that steal from the people are trouble makers like you.
Our banks are respected and very socially responsible, the Royal bank is a perfect example of this. Just look at the role they played at the Vancouver games.
Anyone that supports this fire bombing is nothing short of a domestic terrorist.
@justanoldman1 really, dare you to go onto the street tomorrow and spend an hr doing a survey of random people. I bet you'll find 4 outa 5 will say banks are corrupt. especially if you go to areas that are predominantly poor.
unless you are being sarcastic... can't quite tell, especially since you site the olypics as a good thing. You do realize the torch relay was started by hitler, and was not part of the olympic tradition. & the open members of Franco's Fascist regine were in the IOC for yrs?
@moetthepoet I am at a loss to understand you. I don't know anyone that thinks of the banks as corupt. They are there to serve us and they do quite a good job of it.
I am not rich, I am retired on a small pension and the banks don't charge me a service charge because of my age. When I changed homes a few years ago, they were there to arrange a bridge loan at a very small charge. I have nothing bad to say about the banks.
@justanoldman1 your experience is more unique then you think. I was serious, go ask people in the streets what they think of the banks. I can guarantee you will find many people that feel the banks are stealing from them, that feel the banks are greedy and corrupt.
Even Obama (who i dislike btw) joked that the only think less popular than giving bail out money to banks is giving money to the Auto Industry (which he proceeded to do).
@moetthepoet So what is wrong with funding the tar sands? Would you rather send our money to saudi arabia so that islam can have more money for terrorism? The tar sands in Alberta and Saskatchewan represent perhaps 1/5 of the world's supply of oil and they have not really been tapped yet. I would much prefer developing our own resourses than spending so much for oil from islamic countries.
@jesuspunk84 Crown Land just means owned by the government, btw if you pay attention... the bombing didnt occur on a reserve and therefore native status shouldn't protect anyone... another part... you can't say its stolen land... 400 years ago the natives traded their land to the european settlers... now they're renaging on an agreement... you can't put present day prices on a 400 year old trade...
@itsTerbs clarification please. which nation are you referring to?? there was about 600 unique, individual nations of Indigenous peoples here when the colonizers came to this land. Many never signed treaties, and many who did were forced into signing those treaties. Most those treaties were never lived up to by the settler peoples or their governments, & many still are not. about 90% of BC (where the Olympics were) is still unceded lands, and BC was only colonized about 150 years back, not 400
What about BP or Minerals and Mining in the USA ? Now there's a target!!!!!!!!!!!! Does FFFC think ruining the oceans a good thing ??? I think you are picking on the wrong people.
Royal bank though is the primary funder of the Tar Sands, which has been hailed as the most destructive single project in human history, as well as funding the Olympics which was a disgusting circus of corporatism and colonialism.
As well BP is from england, RBC is a KKKanadian company, thus it makes more sense for locals to attack them, no?
first: learn to to bleeding spell....Kanada really, maybe you just meant to seem disrespectful but if just makes you look like an incompetent.
second: really aboriginals...and legally ceded that just a "he said they said"thing no proof either way, but they live in the country if they dislike it so much they could leave.

provocateurs....a setup....now they have all the excuse they need to turn the summit into an armed camp..say goodbye to any demonstrations of free speech and assembly. They will herd everyone into cattle pens and let you scream about anything as long as you like. Of course you will be nowhere near the summit or the leaders and no one will hear you at all. You will be lucky to even get on the news. And if you do it will be some moron making a fool of himself.
anyone who does this, i dont care if you're native, canadian, or an immigrant, should be put in jail for a very very long time. Get over yourselves, what do you think this is? the US? like common you just destroyed a bank for no good reason? and don't say they took our land, thats bullshit, do you pay taxes on the land? if not its Crown Land!
Les terres volées restent volées peux importes les lois que les Immigrants de l'europe ont instaurés... juste comme ça... La terre de la reine?? elle peux bien mourir avec ses lèche cul de petit politiciens parlementaires.
Why don't you organize yourselves into a political party, get elected, and change things without violence if your cause is right and just. If your cause is right and just, then we'll all join and support your cause. Right? Don't hide your faces and smash windows or burn buildings. Stand in the light for what you think is right. Otherwise, you're just a bunch of gutless cowards.
@brockinator When you burn logs in the stove... is it violence? When your using your car during smog warning days... is it violence? When your action on the stock market sell weapon to dicature... is it violence? When your saying boy dont cry... is this violence???
@brockinator Violence can be seen on different angle. I could definitly argue that the Resistance where only a bunch of rag tag terrorist aiming to destabilize the third reich and their friend by killing people and attacking the economy... but they are heroes, only a matter of perspective. Are you on the nazi side or the Resistance side, make your choice, and im afraid we dont reall yhave the choice to remain neutral anymore. People setting fire to bank might be seen as the future resistance...
@brockinator you are assuming that change through the system is possible, and can be accomplished simply by being morally correct. Anarchist generally assume the system itself is corrupt, and that you can not create real change through the system, because it has been set up in such a way as to stifle any real change.
As well, your post suggests these people want to run things, but the anarchist position is no one should be in charge of others.
The Dispossessed by Ursula LeGuin is a great example
this act was selfish and cowardly, not brave and justified. selfish because you didn't do it for us native people and our rights. you did it to watch that building burn and say f*** off to the government. don't "act" like you represent the interests of our people when you are only representing your own destructive desires. it is becoming more obvious that you are not a legitimate native organization and likely not native. you are likely racist white people waging an attack on native people.
while i can appreciate defiance and taking action, standing up for your rights, etc. this does not represent these values effectively. this is just plain destructive and ignorant. why don't you (FFFC) think about what you are doing before you actually do it? seriously, this makes all native people look bad. you are not doing us any favors. in fact, you may not be native people at all.
Red Power United (Native Rights Movement) does not support such Anarchist behaviors nor has anyone in our Native networks or Native communities ever heard of a Aboriginal group called FFFC.
As a non violent movement and a social activist group, these acts of violence are unacceptable.
@Insurgent2010 I am not indigenous, but I know many Indigenous people that support the use pf militant action. I have heard Gord Hill (for one) openly support militant actions like this.
Further I don't believe the FFFC has declared themselves as Indigenous, rather claimed that No Olympics On Stolen Native Land (A slogan that I believe was coined by the Native Youth Movement, or possibly Gord Hill, but was definitely a rallying cry for the NO2010) was one reason they did this action.
Third: When groups such as FFFC start using violence to get their views heard, where does it lead to next? I think we all know by what's going on in numerous other countries around the world exactly where actions like these lead. Innocent men, women and children get caught in the crossfire and end up on the wrong side of either a bullet or a bomb. We should never condone or support these acts of willful violence. It can only cost much more than we are willing to pay in the long run.
Second:The real problem with this country isn't just the government (no matter who is in power at the time) it also sits on the shoulders of you, me and every other citizen in this country because we act like a bunch of whipped dogs whenever anything is imposed on us (such as taxes, laws and limitations to our rights and freedoms). We gripe and complain about it some, but for the most part the public just cowers in the corner and takes whatever is dished out.
First: Fire bombing buildings is not the way to make a point. It is however a good way to get yourselves put on a government hit list. My problem with this action is what if an innocent person or persons were unexpectedly present and
either maimed or killed? That would accomplish nothing more than turning the rest of society against the FFFC.
Anarchism is a lot more that breaking everything. Personnaly, I don't think this action was a good idea. But i will not cry for this financial business. One think I don't like is people who refere to stalinism as communism. It is not the same thing. I think a lot of communists don't like the Russia experience of "communism"... Anyways, were did the FFFC talk about themself as "anarchists"???
Don't believe everything you're told. Who benefits from this attack? Certainly anarchists do not benefit. The only beneficiaries are the security agencies and Harper's government. We already saw Quebec police pretending to be anarchists while inciting violence.
F**king anarchists are half the reason I stopped protesting. They give legitimate peaceful protesters a bad name and make it possible for governments and business to demonize anyone who opposes their agendas. We are all serfs. These anarcho-shitheads are just biting the hand that feeds.
Sorry I should have clarified: They make it possible for govts and big biz to demonize those who oppose their agendas by lumping legitimate dissenters together with these stupid, shit-disturbing assholes!!!
Here strait from Wiki: The name of Canada has been in use since the earliest European settlement in Canada, with the name originating from a First Nations word kanata (or canada) for "settlement", "village", or "land". Today, Canada is pronounced /ˈkænədə/ in English and [kanada] in French. In Inuktitut, one of the official languages of the territory of Nunavut, the First Nations word (pronounced [kanata])
Um yeah... they are instilling terror. Not Islamic radical Jihadist terror or Real IRA terror or Basque rebel terror but they are using fear for political ends. They are terrorists. I have nothing against philosophical anarchists or your average anarcho-primitivist, but these people are dangerous f**kwits!!!!
@blazedallup Again :The name of Canada has been in use since the earliest European settlement in Canada, with the name originating from a First Nations word kanata (or canada) for "settlement", "village", or "land". Today, Canada is pronounced /ˈkænədə/ in English and [kanada] in French. In Inuktitut, one of the official languages of the territory of Nunavut, the First Nations word (pronounced [kanata]) is used, with the Inuktitut syllabics
Who ever you are let me just say your stuped for doing this you really think by this video they will listen to you you are just assholes to me go off and die stuped
1. I sympathize with their anger. Natives have gotten a shit deal since Europeans colonized these lands. But resorting to terror tactics is stupid and desperate.
2. neilyoungster, this sort of ignorant attitude that terrorists are all one and the same is exactly what allows the goverment to stifle our rights as citizens in the name of security and get away with it.
3. Armies carpet-bombing innocent civilians is cowardly too or are you a right-wing warhawk sh*theel too?
I'm about as far from a "right-wing warhawk shit heel", as you so eloquently put it, but enough is enough. Terrorism in any form should be treated as what it is. Pure unadulterated cowardice. These douches in Vancouver that were "protesting" while wearing black to hide their identity are in the same boat. Cowards. You want change? Grow a set and let us see who you are! Identify with your cause. Did Dr. King wear a mask? Did any others of his like do that? You want change? Grow up. Earn respect.
Okay. You are a lot brighter than I thought. Hey, man I don t like the anarchist f**ks any more than you do. That is why I am with C.R.U.S.H. We have been declared a radical group by the Harper government (who are right-wing warhawk shit heels) but we do not hide who we are. We are on Facebook and will probably end up on watch lists for our trouble. The acronym stands for Canadians Rallying to Unseat Harper. "Clever" rightist bloggers think the C should stand for Communists...
I lean to the left, but Communist in my case could not be further from the truth. My mother grew up in Poland under that evil regime and she left her homeland because of them. I hate Stalin and I detest my contemporaries who idolize him. Hitler and his regime would have achieved a comparable death toll to the Stalinist Soviets had the Nazis been left undefeated. F**k Communism. I will never forget Katyn!!! My great-uncle was murdered by those bastards at that massacre.
it wasnt natives who attacked the bank you just like war monging on natives cause you hate us lol

1. The Violence is unnecessary.

How exactly did burning a bank help the homeless?
daavq 1 year ago
@daavq
sigh! capitalism! If you think about it, to open an account you need photo ID of some sort and a fixed address. Homeless obviously don't have the latter and in many situations do not have the proper ID.
They remain at the bottom and the wealthy maintain control.
playitbyear100 1 year ago
@playitbyear100 Many of the homeless are there by choice. A lot of them are young people to lazy to work and just out to have fun. I was a welfare administrator for several years and when these bumbs told me they could not find a job I would bring them to my farmer friend. \He ran a dairy farm and just could not find anyone to work. He paid $10.00 hour and they sould work 80 hours if they wanted, none lasted more than a couple of days. Got them off welfare though.
justanoldman1 1 year ago
@justanoldman1
" A lot of them are young people to lazy to work and just out to have fun."
That's an opinion not based on the " I worked for welfare therefore I know"
When and individual apply's for a job he needs to have a place of residence. He needs to have a bank account. These 'bums' that you speak of usually have neither!!
Ignorance is bliss! :D
playitbyear100 1 year ago
@playitbyear100 There is no reason not to have a job and a bank account. As far as an address is concerned, you can always live at the YMCA until you can affford better.
When you really want to do something you will find a way, when you don't you find and excuse, just like you are doing.

The bank they burnt was my bank, I even own a few shares of it, they cost the bank lots of money, our money.
justanoldman1 1 year ago
@justanoldman1 I'll have you know that I have worked every day of my life since the mid seventies, Usually more than one job. How about moving your money to credit union?
OscarLimaMike 1 year ago
@OscarLimaMike I used to use a credit union but one year they said out of the blue that they would not renew my mortgage. I had a perfect credit rating but they said they had too many mortgages and sorry but I was out. I closed my account and went to the royal bank. Not only did they give me a mortgage but at a lower rate. I have used them ever since. The bank has been very good for me, they have branches everywhere so no problem getting to an ATM. They are also a good corporate citizen.
justanoldman1 1 year ago
@OscarLimaMike By the way, we own the banks they are all public on the stock market and you can buy one share and go the the annual shreholders meetings and complain if you have a problem. Sure banks make money but that is their job, I know several people at my branch and they will do just about anything to make you happy. My only complaint with the bank is there are not enough men working there, it seems to be just about all women. We are lucky to have strong banks in Canada.
justanoldman1 1 year ago
@justanoldman1 I have to agree with that last statement. That did cost you your money -- not that it needed to. Go downtown to any medium-sized town and look at the financial buildings there -- did frugal spending, saving, and modest gains (all the things banks insist we need to do), produce all that? They take your money, make 20% interest (every quarter--you get a tiny raise in wages every year if you're lucky), and you get their 0.01% pittance interest. Minus service charges, of course.
torontocitylife 1 year ago
@torontocitylife Firstly, your figures are way off the charts. If you did what the banks suggest with your money, you would increase your wealth. Of course we want our banks to earn money, that is their job and we also want their buildings to be neat and clean and appealing.
Secondly, the bank help us buy homes, cars etc otherwize we would have to save up before we could buy these items.
The banks are just one tool that we use to manage our money and control our spending.
justanoldman1 1 year ago
@playitbyear100 You have a point, but not a single one of the "protesters" lifted a finger to help the homeless. Even when they were camped out in one of downtown Toronto's poorer neighbourhoods (my own, as it so happens). The "protesters" are hypocrites to the Nth degree.
torontocitylife 1 year ago
@playitbyear100
If you're homeless, do you really think opening a bank account is top of mind? Studies have shown that most homeless suffer from at least one mental disorder. Perhaps a better use of time and resources would be trying to end the stigmas that surround mental health or supporting outreach centers.
daavq 1 year ago

I think it was over the bank financing something to do with the tar sands, not the homeless
toiletsrus 1 year ago

toiletsrus 1 year ago
@toiletsrus
Oh an Internet tough guy. How original.
BloggerMusicMan 1 year ago
@BloggerMusicMan
Don't hate on anarchists just because they know what to expect
toiletsrus 1 year ago
@BloggerMusicMan Go preach non-violence to the Tutsis, if you can find any. Non-violence is only effective when the opposition is not willing to murder/repress any longer. Such is not the case many times.
TheYellowTelevision 1 year ago
@BloggerMusicMan you should really read an essay called Arms and the Movement by Peter Gelderloos, it is a short, well writen artical that deconstructs those exact "victories" of nonviolence, and shows that there was also militant movements that played major roles in those struggles which are seldom acknowledged propperly.
moetthepoet 1 year ago
@BloggerMusicMan there are many people who do not believe nonviolence works in all cases, or that it is the only option, who are dedicated legitimate activists. By declaring anyone who uses forms of action you disagree with as illegitimate you are creating a very dangerous moral purity based construct.

moetthepoet 1 year ago
@moetthepoet I am at a loss to understand you. I don't know anyone that thinks of the banks as corupt. They are there to serve us and they do quite a good job of it.
I am not rich, I am retired on a small pension and the banks don't charge me a service charge because of my age. When I changed homes a few years ago, they were there to arrange a bridge loan at a very small charge. I have nothing bad to say about the banks.
justanoldman1 1 year ago
@justanoldman1 your experience is more unique then you think. I was serious, go ask people in the streets what they think of the banks. I can guarantee you will find many people that feel the banks are stealing from them, that feel the banks are greedy and corrupt.
Even Obama (who i dislike btw) joked that the only think less popular than giving bail out money to banks is giving money to the Auto Industry (which he proceeded to do).
Also RBC is funding the Tar sands, look into that
moetthepoet 1 year ago
@moetthepoet So what is wrong with funding the tar sands? Would you rather send our money to saudi arabia so that islam can have more money for terrorism? The tar sands in Alberta and Saskatchewan represent perhaps 1/5 of the world's supply of oil and they have not really been tapped yet. I would much prefer developing our own resourses than spending so much for oil from islamic countries.

People setting fire to bank might be seen as the future resistance...
jesuspunk84 1 year ago
@brockinator you are assuming that change through the system is possible, and can be accomplished simply by being morally correct. Anarchist generally assume the system itself is corrupt, and that you can not create real change through the system, because it has been set up in such a way as to stifle any real change.
As well, your post suggests these people want to run things, but the anarchist position is no one should be in charge of others.

dreamwalker72 1 year ago
Red Power United (Native Rights Movement) does not support such Anarchist behaviors nor has anyone in our Native networks or Native communities ever heard of a Aboriginal group called FFFC.
As a non violent movement and a social activist group, these acts of violence are unacceptable.
Insurgent2010 1 year ago 2
@Insurgent2010 I am not indigenous, but I know many Indigenous people that support the use pf militant action. I have heard Gord Hill (for one) openly support militant actions like this.
Further I don't believe the FFFC has declared themselves as Indigenous, rather claimed that No Olympics On Stolen Native Land (A slogan that I believe was coined by the Native Youth Movement, or possibly Gord Hill, but was definitely a rallying cry for the NO2010) was one reason they did this action.
moetthepoet 1 year ago 2
Third: When groups such as FFFC start using violence to get their views heard, where does it lead to next? I think we all know by what's going on in numerous other countries around the world exactly where actions like these lead. Innocent men, women and children get caught in the crossfire and end up on the wrong side of either a bullet or a bomb. We should never condone or support these acts of willful violence. It can only cost much more than we are willing to pay in the long run.
SMacD1966 1 year ago
Second:The real problem with this country isn't just the government (no matter who is in power at the time) it also sits on the shoulders of you, me and every other citizen in this country because we act like a bunch of whipped dogs whenever anything is imposed on us (such as taxes, laws and limitations to our rights and freedoms). We gripe and complain about it some, but for the most part the public just cowers in the corner and takes whatever is dished out.
SMacD1966 1 year ago
First: Fire bombing buildings is not the way to make a point. It is however a good way to get yourselves put on a government hit list. My problem with this action is what if an innocent person or persons were unexpectedly present and
either maimed or killed? That would accomplish nothing more than turning the rest of society against the FFFC.
SMacD1966 1 year ago
Anarchism is a lot more that breaking everything. Personnaly, I don't think this action was a good idea. But i will not cry for this financial business. One think I don't like is people who refere to stalinism as communism. It is not the same thing. I think a lot of communists don't like the Russia experience of "communism"... Anyways, were did the FFFC talk about themself as "anarchists"???
skatomique 1 year ago
Don't believe everything you're told. Who benefits from this attack? Certainly anarchists do not benefit. The only beneficiaries are the security agencies and Harper's government. We already saw Quebec police pretending to be anarchists while inciting violence.
