  • This guy is complaining about the jungle looking the same in all directions (like it should) and enemies and trip wires being hidden (like they should be). Keep complaining about nothing and you suck.

  • haha "You are the history", "Get going" - very funny stuff :-D

  • Great review man!

  • Actually Sunsoft's use of Camouflaged soliders trip wires, and mazes of forest looking the same to confuse you was in character. That's how it was in Nam.

  • Nice usage of the movie theme at the end of the video.

  • It's the vietnam war. You can't win.

  • hey i actually enjoy playing this game i dont have a maual i found the explosives this game deserves more credit

  • @n64fanboy1 If you can beat level 1 it gets way easier. Why the fuck did they make the first fucking leveling the fucking maze? For level 1 wouldn't you want the player to start with a level like 3? To get them into the game? There is nothing to pull you in. You start out with a level so fucking hard that you have to draw a map? And they though that this kind of design would be a good idea for level 1? They must have never wanted to sell a fucking copy.

  • AVGN much?

  • This game looks really shit. I mean even before filmnstuff started talking. The graphics are decent but the maze approach really kills it completely. Walk left and maybe a few huts and villagers would be better than this shit.

  • Absolutely, Ocean have no idea to what they're doing when making this game. Explains why their Jurassic Park games was a LOT MORE better.

  • I am literally pissing my pants. The comments are class!!!!

  • Your review is spot on. I had to record my play on a VCR to figure out the maze once I did it. I was disappointed that your review didn't show the other levels--kind of an incomplete review though the ridiculousness only continues anyway.

  • Sunsoft did not make this game. It was actually made by OCEAN, and Sunsoft of America published it.

  • The original Ocean game on the C=64 had a great soundtrack. All Sunsoft titles on the NES have great soundtracks. Amazing that this boils down to a Sunsoft title with shit for music.

  • I was amazed when I saw this review I had no idea this game even existed. What a strange game to make. Platoon was trying to be a serious film about Vietnam a video game almost feels like they were making fun of it or something.

  • I used to have this game for the nes.It was one of the few games that I completed all the way to the end.I don't think the game was as bad as this video review says,it was good once you got the hang of it.I know someone will tell me to go make my own game review videos here on you tube,if I only had the money for the software and I knew how to make one I would do it.I'm just clueless and broke like the majority of people who watch videos here in you tube land.

  • Eh, lets take a classic war movie full of drama and commentary on one of the most traumatic wars in U.S history and make it into a pointless game about shooting VC in the jungle.

    Yeah that's really tasteful.

  • this loser complains about everything , " the graphics for this game are great for the nes, and then later he says " the graphics are poorly designed" and he thinks hes hilarious by saying fuck a lot

  • While Sunsoft developed this version, Ocean originally developed the original C64 version which is the same exact game.

  • Great movie, but I'm not gonna even try this bag of cock-a-dookie

  • u suck, this games great

  • The only time up should be jump is in fighting games.

  • You sir are a god for having played this long enough to gather this much footage of the game.

  • They made another platton for i think XBOX and PS2 in 2002 or 2003. The movie was okay though.

  • Actually Sunsoft was very successful with creating the whole atmosphere of the Nam war. such as camouflaged enemies, traps, and a jungle that is confusing to navigate. They did a GOOD job.

  • @Sambucacat also with the Morale.... they captured the "Vietnam Flashback" aspect of our veterans. Again they did a good job capturing the traumas our veterans experienced. Now we can all go crazy in a Mc Donald's. Charlies in the Trees Charlies in the Trees.

  • hahahaha

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one that enjoyed Gremlins 2 on NES.

  • Every game by Ocean was awesome.

    Ok, sorry I lied.

I like the music in the Commodore 64 version, but I didn't even like that version.

  • When he said punji stick with gopher shit at the beginning I nearly died!

  • 3:26

Woah woah woah, since when did NES games have manuals?

  • uh, filmnstuff, sunsoft didn't make this game, they published it.The Fuckernaughts at ocean made it.

  • "Platoon" was another odd choice for a film-to-game adaptation. An emotional, Oscar-winning anti-war movie comes to the NES? Why not add "Apocalypse Now" or "M*A*S*H" while we're at it?

Did no one stand up and say, "Hey, the content of this movie doesn't really lend itself to a cheesy eight-bit side-scroller? Furthermore, did anyone's parents let them see "Platoon" when they were a kid? What market were they trying to reach with this game?

  • hahah this is classic.

  • Thx to coruscant100

I noticed the words Ocean Software Limited. So Ocean are the ones who created this...

  • @Sesshoumaru888 you are welcome. : )

  • ;) :)

  • I hate it when great musicians work for bad game companies, Tim Follin works for LJN, Jonathan Dunn, and Barry Leitch works for Ocean...

  • This game really sucked ass...I played it literally for about 5 minutes

the movie was really good though

  • How did the makers of Eternal Eyes fuck up THIS bad?!!?

  • It was NOT made by SUNSOFT, it was made by OCEAN take a look on the title screen and you will see Ocean's ugly name there.

  • Holy shit I just noticed that.

So Sunsoft, decided to work with OCEAN?!??!?! How the hell does that make any sense? Because both those names are in the copyright screen! WHAT THE FUCK?

Honestly, this makes about as much sense as the game itself. Basically none.

  • Basically SUNSOFT just published their name on this piece of crap, why I do not know, if I were SUNSOFT, I would NEVER put my company's name on an OCEAN game.

  • OCEAN should just stick their name on this game. I agree with you on that one coruscant100.

  • That would be like if CAPCOM put their name on an LJN game.

  • Right about everything, coruscant100.

  • I don't think platoon was a good basis for a movie

  • The Commodore 64 version kicks ass. The music is better, and it plays better.

  • this game is a piece of crap no doubt!!

  • Another good review, filmnstuff

When you said which company made this game, I thought it was OCEAN because they are most of the time they turn awesome movies into bad games.

  • Actually if you look at the title screen again, it will have ocean software limited on it. So technically ocean made this game to, but it was just published by Sunsoft

  • Thanks for pointing that out, coruscant100 I didn't notice that. All I looked at was the blue SUNSOFT because filmnstuff was just talking about that.

  • No problem MrWaterwatcher.

  • i like this game.

  • Wow this game needs a proper burial. Wow these game designers really wanna piss you off when playing this game! Sweet ass review!!

  • Hey, have you ever reviewed any games made by the company of LJN? They are as shitty as it gets. I'd say their games are worse than ocean's games. Some examples of LJN games are, The uncanny X-MEN, Jaws, Beetlejuice, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on elmstreet.

  • Not to double comment or anything, but I literately just completed this game. Whew. What a shitstorm. The beginning section wasn't too bad but everything after that drove me BERSERK.

The targeting reticle in the Tunnel and Bunker stages was enough to make me punch something. Why does the reticle have to freakin bounce around like a ball when you so much as take a step?! You have to take baby steps in order not to get cleaved by the dudes popping out of nowhere!

  • And the Bunker sequence? Bullshit. You can see everything without the flares just fine. Between the reticle being slow as hell and how PRECISE you have to be when hitting the VC, it's enough to make me punch something.

The Jungle Confrontation was a pain in the ass too. Why is it when you get hit do you have to start at the bottom of the screen? The VC running back and forth at lightning speed, shooting like a madman, at the top of screen doesn't help matters either.

    Screw you, Ocean.

  • i guess the only reason i have the patience to play this game is because the NES is my youth. after playing this game like twenty times, i've nearly mapped out the maze in my head. but this is still a very good review. there are a few things that i think could have been better about this game. btw, i love the joke you made at the beginning.

  • This is why I suscribed to your videos. Great stuff as always! Good job!

  • another great review !!

  • awesome end :) I love your reviews!

  • Yes! another filmnstuff review at long last! Your stuff is the greatest! Every other game reviewer on youtube sux by comparison. You allude to Uncle Festers Quest and I checked it out- its beyond rediculous and a complete waste of time---right up your alley! Maybe a future review?

  • Thanks. I would cover Fester's Quest, but I think the AVGN already did a great job tearing that piece of shit a new one. So anything I'd say would be redundant.

As for the "foliage," it's my Noo Yawk accent that makes me say "foil e edge" rather than "fo lee edge."

  • Ok I'll check that out. I'm not calling you out on ur pronunciation, i think these fine folks r just trying to impart the wisdom of lisa simpson in that episode where rodney dangerfield is mr burns' son lol. thats cool you're in N00 yawk pally. I'm up in albany. Keep up the kickin' g00d work.

  • Hooray, you're back with another video. Haven't got my dose of filmnstuff for a while.

  • It's pronounced "FO LEE EDGE" not "FOIL E EDGE". *face palm*

  • Great review filmnstuff!!!!

  • Man, what if this game were like Predator? Wherein a pink-clad Charlie Sheen has a final confrontation with a huge Tom Beringer head? That would be scary as all hell.

O'Neil should have been a playable character. You could walk around and give blowjobs to Barnes.

  • Wanna know why it sucked? Ocean actually created the damn thing. Sunsoft just published it.

  • That would explain it. But then, why would Sunsoft even put their name on the damn thing? If I were them, I wouldn't be seen within a thousand miles of an Ocean game.

  • Sunsoft only published the thing.

Remember that back then, Nintendo only let publishers put out a certain number of titles per year. It's why Konami had Ultra Games, and Acclaim had LJN.

Of course, WHY didn't Sunsoft choose to publish another good game instead of this trash? Who knows.

  • You're right. They didn't make it. But they did port the Ocean C64 version to the NES, so in a way they remade it. Perhaps I should have said ported instead of made.

  • I was going to say you're wrong, but then I opened the game in a hex editor, looked for the credits, and found a few recognizable names from the era.

    Dammit, Sunsoft, WTF.

  • @filmnstuff please play bad dudes for the nes it sucks so bad that i almost broke that damn game.

  • Great movie, Great Review, Terrible game.

  • Great review, Awful Game.

I only had 1 point to say, It's pronounced Fo-lee-ij.

    Not foil-ij.

Sorry, I just had to point it out, it's just one of my pet peeves when things are pronounced wrong.

  • And the music it keeps repeating

  • Hey, filmnstuff, it's been a while! ;)
