Italeri 1:48 Bell AB 212 / UH-1N helicopter (Kit no: 2692). Twin rotor blades, not four like with the 214 version in real life. Three sets of clean looking sprues, one being transparent parts. Helicopter body is mainly two large pieces (split in half the whole way).
I also found this nice 1:72 Grumman Duck from Revell (older kit apparantly, but mold quality looks acceptable)
Addendum: The decals have some flaws, as mentioned in a review I found. And true enough, all the circular markings are not aligned properly, the same with the german and Italian (?) flag. Everything else looks good imo.
This case rattles abit when opening the door or bumbing the case itself. The rattling noise is because of the side glass bumping into one of the horizontal glass plates. A piece of filt or self adhesive rubber should fix this rattling, making it quiet.
Useful info: It is not advisable to carry the 40.7 kg DETOLF package alone. It is really heavy. I did carry it 1km on my way home from the bus stops, and I think anyone will come regret it should they attempt it. :)
Hi I'm new to modeling and just finished my first plane and it looks horrible! Do you have any tips...the parts that look bad a re the body and cockpit they both have glue all over the place and the cockpit in all fogged up. I did not paint it yet. Also what is flash on the trees or sprues again im new.
Hm, perhaps it is possible to sand down the glass abit and then polish it shiny again somehow. One technique with polishing edges of plexiglass, is apparantly to just briefly apply a flame to melt the plexiglass.
When gluing on transparent canopy glass, it might be a good idea to try smear some glue onto a thin piece of paper, in order to control the amount of clue, by applying glue indirectly. Thus avoiding dumping a whole droplet of glue onto the model itself, probably smearing it where there glue is not supposed to be applied.
I use a bottle with liquid glue, but even with this type of glue I usually end up with too much glue, if bottle was turned upside down.
@AdrianNtart Nope... I used the plastic card as templates to draw the pattern on to the sheet of day-glo yellow decal, and then cut out the pieces, and applied them to the model as I would any other type of decal.. :) It worked well, apart from the shape being slightly wrong on the wings.. :)
@trainfart Thanks.. the old green one is full of paintlines and brush strokes, but it is ok for an early effort.. :) I'm keeping it to remind me that my modelling has improved.. :)
Great model! Your collection of Swedish aircraft is rapidly increasing. It inspires me to do a Draken. I think that one of the following models will be Saab-J35.
@fmcVlad Looking forward to seeing it... I'm working on a Draken right now, one I started a while ago but it went wrong.. but I stripped off the paint and started again.. :)
I really like the Saab aircraft and you really brought this one to life. I have not been online much so I do not know if you have been on or if I missed some of your videos. Happy New Year looking forward to seeing what you build this year.
@MisplacedTexan4 I haven't been much online lately either and certainly not on YouTube, due to my sons illness.. and I'm off again next week as he is due to have surgery, so there will be a spell now when I will be off more than on again.. Glad you liked my model, will post some more Saab aircraft soon.. :)
@flightdeckreviews Sorry for a very late reply... I'm not familiar at all with the Heller P-39 so can't really offer you any advice! I didn't even know Heller had made one.. :) Sorry about that..
I just realized that in the eventuality of really going over to airbrushing models (I have some of the equipment), every unevenness on the surface due to gluing on parts, half assed sanding, will show through the pain and look bad. Seems to me that models for airbrushing probably demand a much more attention towards achieving perfection than I initially imagined. :)
@InstantUsername Definetely... airbrushing will give you very thin layers of paint and like you said, everything will show which demands a great dela of prep-work before painting... but the end result should be much better and thus worth the effort.. :)
@MADDD0GGG Thanks... have had a spell off again and next week I won';t be on at all.. :P My sons treatment means we have to spend another week in London, as he will have surgery done..
Great build! I am happy to see your build vids again! I have a assembly line of builds coming up. You are the reason why I switch to 1/72 scale military models. They are "space savers." :) I like 1/48 scale but too big for the shelves. Keep Building and take it easy!
@atomicdog32 Yes, I agree.. they definetely save space... but now and again I like to up size, just for the fun of it and for the (hopefully) better details of a larger kit.. :) Will be off for a week again next week due to my sons upcoming surgery, and will have another spell more off than on, it will be a while before 'normality' is resumed, I'm afraid..
Saab has made some good aircraft over the years. This one does look like a Hawker Hunter had sex with a F-86D "Dog Saber" and this was the puppy! OR North American did build a Saber with side intakes and the Lansen looks a bit like that too.{BTW that Saber never got beyond the prototype stage.]
@richardwillett I should do some research into that Sabre, it seems like an interesting plane... :) Glad you liked my model, sorry for a late reply.. :)
Oh crap I just found a damn flaw in my Revell 1:72 Leopart 2 A4 (03103) kit. One of the rear wheels pulling the tracks is assembled from two pieces, but they are obviously not aligned even after gluing them together with the help of the guide.
Too late for me to fix this. The solution would have been to ignore and to cut off the small plastic part that acts as a guide for adjoining the two pieces.
Luckily the flawed tracks are not overly visible on the finished model.
@InstantUsername I always leave that wheel loose as well, when assembling the tracks, so it can be adjusted according to how the track lines up.. that helps a bit! But obviously the two halves would have to be correctly aligned in the first place.. At least you know what to look out for next time now. :)
In hindsight I also learned that these kind of tracks (hard parts, various length) should be glued on starting with the bottom part of the tracks beneath the wheels. This way, any uneven spacing between the track parts at the end can be hidden on the upper side of the tracks, above the wheels but maybe inside the sides of the tank.
@InstantUsername Great idea... I am practising a similar method as and when I build any tanks with injected tracks.. the best tanks are those with the side skirts and you sometimes can skip the track alltogether on the upper side of the wheels.. cheating, I know.. but it saves time and effort.. :)
@2paintminiatures Well, SAAB started off as an aircraft manufacturing company, the cars was a second thought.. today the car factory has gone bancrupt, but the planes are still going strong.. :)
@UnityCZ I never quite made it back properly and now I wioll be off again for a spell due to my sons treatment.,.. but I hope to post another video in the next couple of days.. :0
Very well done. An attractive model of a classic, 1950's fighter. I only hope that Heller decides to reissue this aircraft in the near future. I have the sudden urge to get one myself.
@modelermark172 You should be able to pick one up on e-bay or at a model show.. if you can get to one.. the kit is still out and about, they must have done quite a few, even if it was a good few years ago now..
@cwazmann1 A target tug is a plane that tugs targets.. :) In other words, they tow a great big wind sock or similar at a safe distance behind them, so the anti aircraft gunners on the ground have a target to practise shooting at! That's why they had the great big 'hi-viz' markings, so the gunners knew where NOT to aim... :) :)
So good to see you back Rob.Hope all is good : ) Im really struggling to model at the moment and i cant concentrate..we have decided to move cos i will kill a neighbour soon (not sure which one yet). The Youboob changes have stopped me in my tracks,i dont really enjoy it anymore..ill keep watchin and uploading when it takes me i suppose, but the fun of it is rapidly disappearing : ( Google is destroying this place. Hope all is ok with you, haven't seen any videos from you in my inbox lately??

@harveybash Don't know about that.. but at least I'm enjhoying the modelling again... just had another spell off the YT though, too much to do outside of the internet at the moment, I'm afraid.. :P
@oshaughs83 My wife gave me the turntable for christmas, she ordered it online but I don't know where from or for how much... but yes, it is very handy indeeed!! :)
I always thought the Lansen was a bit of a mix 'n match job. The nose and air intake of a Lockheed Shooting Star, the rear fuselage and tail of a FIAT G91, and the wings of a Hawker Hunter!!
@bruce3371 Yes, it is a bit of a mix... but to me it is a beautiful aircraft, especially in the air.. I have seen a few flying in the line of duty... :)
@chancerNW Glad you liked it... had a near end disaster again, one of the number decals on the fin split in 4 parts and I had no replacement.. but plenty of water to aid movement and a lot of patience and careful manouvering and I managed to patch it up... just.. :) If not I probably would have taken another month of.. in despair! ;)
@awsem1o1 Not really.. I was just referring to the shape... Saab tends to name their aircraft after the shape of them, like the J29 was Tunnan (Barrel) because it was round.. The J35 Draken (Kite) because it looked like a kite and the AJ37 Viggen (Thunderbolt) becasue the shape of the wings looked like a zig zag bolt of lightning.. but THIS looks more like an arrow than a lance to me.. :)
@tankman13p66 I'm currently working on 3 Saab J29 / S29 C 'Tunnan'.. There will be a lot of Saab aircraft over the next couple of months, or at least that is the plan.. Will build more armour and that sort of things later in the year.. :)
Yay! Glad you've got your modelling mojo back and what better way to do it than with a Swedish subject! What an interesting little jet - looks like the lovechild of a Sabre and a Hunter! That cockpit looks the biz and it's amazing what a difference the seat handles make! Nice one, mate! :)
@MakingModelsAgain It's not all that little... :) But yes, the Hunter and Sabre comes to mind, but I'd say it's twice the size of the Sabre.. :) It was the first Swedish built aircraft to fly faster than the speed of sound, if only in a shallow dive.. an absolute beauty in the air, and as there's still 2 flying I hope to one day get to see at least one in the air again.. Together with the Saab 105 and the J35 Draken it's probably the aircraft I have seen the most of, ever.. :)
@Sincy202 My eyes are beginning to let me down though, I guess I better get some glasses for close up work now... :P Thanks, I'm glad you liked the end result.. :)
Addendum 2: Hrm, the kit I bought seem to have some "flash" and could have been more detailed I think.

I found what looks like a nice kit today:
Italeri 1:48 Bell AB 212 / UH-1N helicopter (Kit no: 2692). Twin rotor blades, not four like with the 214 version in real life. Three sets of clean looking sprues, one being transparent parts. Helicopter body is mainly two large pieces (split in half the whole way).

Btw, I found a nice display case for models at IKEA!!!!
Check it out yourselves. It's cheap and seem to work fairly well, with only 6+4mm vertical gap at each side of the front door (swings out).
Model name is: Detulf
ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10011055/
InstantUsername 2 weeks ago
I meant, there is a 6mm gap on the left side of the door and 4mm gap on the right side.
InstantUsername 2 weeks ago
Correction: the correct spelling is DETOLF, not Detulf which I wrote.
InstantUsername 2 weeks ago
I measured the internal width inside the glass, to be 38cm. I did not measure the depth. Presumably, the glass plate has a square shape.

@MrP61guy
I am almost 100% that you cannot fix glue smeared on the canopy glass, except perhaps painting the outside black to cover it up.
"Flash" is probably the redundant plastic that you have to cut and sand away from the various parts. Usually thin flakes of plastic.

@MrP61guy

MakingModelsAgain 1 month ago
@MakingModelsAgain It's not all that little... :) But yes, the Hunter and Sabre comes to mind, but I'd say it's twice the size of the Sabre.. :) It was the first Swedish built aircraft to fly faster than the speed of sound, if only in a shallow dive.. an absolute beauty in the air, and as there's still 2 flying I hope to one day get to see at least one in the air again.. Together with the Saab 105 and the J35 Draken it's probably the aircraft I have seen the most of, ever.. :)

Q: Does the uploader use an airbrush pistol or just the regular brushes?
