I was once a13S (enlisted) before I became a 13A. the 13D.

Like most combat arms MOSs, when not in the field, you are working a regular work week spent on maintenance of equipment, plus some practice training.

In the field, the FDC is where you will spend a lot of your time. The lower the rank, the more the backbreaking work.

If computers, math, protracters, charts and darts, and radios are your passions; I say, "Go for it!"

been there done that....your also a Radio Transmission Operator and Driver, that tent they roll up is called a hooch....if there is a extra man(especially the new ones) they are refereed to as the hooch bitch....until they more acclimated into FDC life. So there is no doubt this is one important job cause of the accuracy that is required to execute the job well.

And there really not much you can do on the outside as a 13D, unless you wanna create maps, i believe the term is topographic engineer. I loved being a 13D but this is SOOO old. But ARTY all day. I was a 13D in the army. I was apart of 3rd ID during OIF1. You will stay in the field a lot of time. As with any combat M.O.S. while in field you will get little sleep and the elements are always an enemy because you in it. Other than that it wasn't to bad being a 13d during the war because not only did you get to be a soldier you also got to map out a target then give the orders to blow it up using some nice 155 HE fuse PD's =)
