Someone asked below how her religion (Christian Science) allowed her to have plastic surgery. It doesn't... Shannon converted and is now an Episcopalian. Episcopalian is much more liberal/tolerant and I'm sure doesn't have a stance on plastic surgery, or any surgery for that matter. Just FYI.

Ok several things--it's not "thinking she's so wonderful" if she's simply answering the interviewer's questions. I doubt she would be the kind of person who would just toot her own horn with no prompting. But she was asked, so she answered. Also, re: the plastic surgery, it was looking kind of scary but I think she looks really good here. And of course she looks older. It's been 13 years since the 96 games. And finally, for her records in gymnastics to have stood this long is awesome.

I agree with you, she's not being arrogant at all.... Shes always struck me as a nice person (despite the hideous 'cream of oats' advert with borden last year, not cool....), I just actually cannot grasp that this is Miller? not only does she look different, but she was always so painfully shy and quiet.... She's blossomed I guess

Shannon Miller has always been my favorite gymnast. We are only 7 months apart in age so that made it even more special as I watched her compete throughout her career. I have so much admiration for her. She is just amazing.

It did go through the media and it's also obvious. The first time I saw her new face, I had the same reaction as most people: I couldn't believe it was her! She had a very strong profile and now it looks like a failed Barbie doll. I guess life in plastic - it's fantastic!

There is a huge difference - she's very obviously had a nose job. She looks sooo different because of it. She looks good, but it just doesn't look like her anymore.

I loved her as a gymnast, too.

In her book Shannon says that having a micro-screw inserted in her elbow was very difficult for her b/c her religion ("Christian Scientist") did not allow it. I keep wondering how come her religion allowed her all those plastic surgeries??? She looks like a freak now after she did the nose, lips, chin, cheeks, false teeth and who knows what else..Was she just playing the good girl in her book? I also think that being so full of herself as she is makes her a very annoying person. Come down a bit!

If you recall, her parents were the ones making the major decisions in her book and the mother seemed to be the one having the most problems with the religious aspect. Methinks perhaps Shannon grew out of that a bit as she got out on her own.

Nastia didn't beat her Olympic record, just tied her worlds record. Shannon won 7 medals overall in Olympic competition. Nastia got 5.
