I've never read WoT, I've wanted to, but the size of the series is pretty intimidating and There's also a lot of other stuff I want to read, but I have it on good authority that the series is fucking awesome, so I will get around to it eventually
Game of throne series format is the best way to start from what I've heard their are a lot of characters a series can focus on characters more in depth than a movie can
The WOT would be hard to make into a movie. But I do have to say they can make it fit and be enjoyable if they decide to unwind Jordan's massively overcomplicated story line and snip out unessential pieces which are aplenty it could work. A bunch of the minor stuff would have to be culled until you gather a large fanbase for the movies then you start building on the smaller plots drawing in the audience even deeper into the movie instead of hitting them with it head on in the beginning.
Everything in the books in crucial to the plot, be it in the beginning or the end. I say they shouldn't butcher this series, as they have so many others, by making it into a movie.
@talentgirl16 If you haven't got to book 4 yet...you need to. It's the longest one in the series and I think I read it in a week. It is an amazing book (Especially if you like Perrin's point of view).
unless they end up making a forty hour long movie series. It won't be exactly like the books. They will natural edit some (unfortunately) "non-essential" elements out from the plot. That means they'll have to create smaller sub-plots to rationalize character development and Supra-plot. It's sure to be a let down in my opinion. I hope I'm proven wrong
....."What was, what will be, and what is may yet fall under the shadow.".....isnt that Tolkien not Jordan? Or has my reading them both gotton me mixed up? It sounds more Tolkien though.....Cool teaser trailor though!!!! Totally epic! I love WoT....even if every one at school says its weird for a thirteen year old to read Tolkien, Jordan, and Mercadeys Lackey like they do Twighlight (gag!)......okay Im word vomiting now!!!! But seroiusly thats totally LOTR not WoT........
I`m afraid you are wrong :/ that quote is VERY WoT (believe me, i have read the books many times :P) in fact you can also reason your way to what is correct. As you can se the quote states that what "was" may fall under the shadow, and in WoT the dark one actually do possess the power to unravel time itself.
Sauron, on the other hand wouln`t be able to do this even if he spent eternity trying, as he is just some third rate god (he is a maiar, the weakest type of god) Its from WoT
@AlexandrosxxMograine OH!! I get what you mean!!! Yeah I so see that. I never liked Soulron anyway. Hes kinda a douche. XD But the Dark ONe is just. . .cooler. And I get what you mean when you say that it is very what, I was jsut super high so I was like 'WTF? I thought Tolkien wrote that quote not Jordan!?' But you are so right! It pertains to WoT very well.
I haven't read Eragon, but as soon as I heard that his parents were the publishers, I decided not to bother. I agree that any attempt to make the books into films will just annoy WoT fans, and that only those who haven't read it will like it at all.
WHY CAN"T THEY MAKE THIS A LEGIT MOVIE!!?? WHY!!!!!! We all know the wheel of time series is either A: One of the best out there or B: THE best out there so WHY CAN"T IT BE A MOVE!! They made Eragon a movie and Wheel of time is like 100X better so COME ON!!!
@drblaze2 Wheel of time is too long for a movie. ITs either a somewhat decent movie per book or a shitty move per few books. ofc if an movie maker like the one who made eragon gets his hands on it it would be shitty movie per book aswell.
I will never play this game. If there is a movie to come about the book I will not see it, unless it is said to be better than the lord of the rings movies. Nothing less gives justice to the masterpeice that is the Wheel of Time and I see it as a direct insult to the author Robert Jordan. These books are NOT to be exploited by cold companies who does'nt understand squat of what the series are!

Here's an interesting fact WoT fans may be interested in: There is a real White Tower. I live in L.A., Glendale to be exact. "3D Animated Fan trailer based"???? So...what you're trying to say is that you made it?? Are you serious....this is a trailer and a few of the gameplay scenes from the game Wheel of Time that came out in 1999. I seriously hope that you're not trying to insinuate that you made this...because it would be bad for you :)) . The game looks horrible even for 1999
The only way they could possibly do these amazing books justice is to pick some of the sub plots to make a movie out of, or maby pick a book in the middle and keep the action going like starting the movie with the taking of the stone of Tear with no backstory.
Because, honestly it was a horrible attempt at ripping off three of the best fantasy series of all time. The Wheel of Time, Star Wars, and The Lord of The Ring. If you think i'm retarded look at "Brom and Eragon" = "Obie Wan and Luke" i've killed your father you are the last of your kind, let me train you. wheel of time look at eragons brother "strong hammer" and Wheel of times Perrin safes home town weilds a hammer and grows a beard has wife kiddnaped and the whole world tolkein created
of course there are similarities, i grant that. But that doesnt make it a terrible book. Its very well written, and it captivates the reader. however, even though there are similarities, there are big differences. Eragon is NOT the last of his kind. Perrin and Roran have their wives kidnapped at different points in teh relationship and Tolkien didnt create the world. he took a bunch of mystical creatures and put them in a book. Almost any high fantasy has these creatures. i.e. innocent mage book
Eragon wasn't the so much the last, but the beginning of the next, eh? Just like Lukie boy. As for the writing, "Eragon" is so poorly written, it's almost as if he was planning on it being made into a crappy movie that shoved the plot around until it sorta made sense.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ouch. :P i think we'll have to agree to disagree. I honestly find Eragon to be brilliantly written. Trust me, i have a REAL short attention span, but i can read Eragon for hours on end. I wouldnt do that if it was badly written. And till now, everything ive read in Eragon has made sense :-/ oh well
But see, that's the thing. The way he writes is so choppy and... well.. childish. It was too jumpy. Then again, people who read Jordan's later stuff say it takes too long. Writers mature, their writing matures. Sadly, Eragon only gained more plot, not a better writing style.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
well, i suppose some people prefer different writing styles. I personally like his and i dont really find it childish but i suppose thats up to the reader. And if it is childish, i hope it stays childish in the next book cause i lov the way he writes. :P
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
WOT started off really good i thought but it just slowly fell. by about book 6 the development of the main plot is pretty much nothing and he rambles off into side plots and escapades. the series was spose to be 6 books but now its gonna be 12, with the 12th split into 3 volumes!
Nah dude...I think the first three are the best. After The Dragon Reborn/The Shadow Rising he starts just making up random bullshit...not that the books are BAD, but definitely not as well thought out/written as the first three.
@MapOfTheLost Eragon isn't an epic fantasy like WoT I wouldn't expect there to be the same level of detail. However, Eragon as a whole is not very well written to begin with. I completely agree with you on that point. I really wish they would make a movie out of this. The only problem would be shortening it. Twelve movies or more isn't quite what Hollywood does at this point in time.
@BrutalT6 I dont think WoT should be made into movies because getting 12 movies together to represent such an epic series would be very hard. There is too much potential for something to go wrong. Best books ever and I dont want Hollywood to mess this up.
@MapOfTheLost omg you didn't just compare WoT with Eragon....*smacks you, very hard* lol I'm one of the biggest sci-fi/fantasy book readers of all time, I was reading at a college level in the 6th grade and I've read more books than I can possibly even remember reading....and I say this with all conviction. The Wheel of Time is the greatest series to have ever been written. Period. it's just to bad he didn't get to finish the last book =o(, still 12 you could tell that most of it was RJ's stuff.
@MapOfTheLost That kid couldn't write his way out of a wet paper bag. He wasn't merely inspired by certain authors, he blatantly plagiarised them. To say Eragon was "all right" is giving praise where absolutely none is due. Watch now as the author of those books fades into absolute obscurity which he rightly deserves.
@NASCreations I see your point. I read the book at a pretty young age, and while it DOES suck it's a pretty easy book to digest. Like I said, thanks to it I was able to move on to great series like A Song of Ice and Fire and of course, Wheel of Time.
@MapOfTheLost Do remember that Eragon is targeting youths around the age of 13-16 :) I books are fairly well written and the plot is corresponding to the age group it is targeting. I love WoT but.. COME ON! It's Eragon o.O
@MapOfTheLost For the most part I agree with you, about Eragon. Yet I think his magic is one of the most interesting. It's theoretically limitless, and yet massively constrained. Though I think the books aren't original enough, the part's that are original really are original.
@MapOfTheLost Neither is wot, like how ishmael said that rand had joined him in past lives (dragonmount prologue) but now says the dark one wants to destroy the world. If rand did that they would've won and there'd b no world. That's been on my mind since i've read the last 2 books.
@MapOfTheLost WoT made you realize Eragon isn't well written or thought out? Holy shit, Eragon must be absolute garbage in that case. Read ASOIAF, it's what got me into fantasy a few years ago, and I haven't seen anything top it. It truly makes WoT look and feel like a kid's show.
@TheKingdomofErnor im currently reading ASOIAF 4th book and I don`t totally agree with you it may be a more adult universe but it simply is not as epic as the WoT and the whole serie is way too dark for my taste. It is well written and certainly deserves to be considered one of the best fantasy series of all time but I like the WoT a lot more because I get to care much more about it`s characters then those in ASOIAF. Not to mention some of the great humor contained in the WoT.
@megaminx1900 I actually find WoT agonizing because the author makes the same terrible jokes over and over. "Herp derp, males and females can never understand each other!". It's not even true, relateable, or funny.
@megaminx1900 Not to mention the many things in the books which could be call outright retarded. One example: characters sniff to show disapproval. The author never explains why sniffing is supposed to show this, he just acts like it's a normal human expression.
Another example: Old women giving "cold stares" making men jump. It's completely stupid and unrealistic.
A 'sniff' is a pretty common way of showing disapproval- even outside of fantasy. I see it all the time.
As for the stares? How would you feel if someone who had the power to kill you on a whim gave you an angry looking stare? Or someone who can spawn fire and destruction with their mind? Someone with the authority to make your life become a hell (lots of people can do that to lots of others in the books hah)? I would think it perfectly reasonable to be wary of them.
From what I'm read, the 'fear from a stare' deal is always done when given by someone with a great deal of power. Thus Aes Sedai or no, seems to me like it's valid to be afraid of an angry look.
And yes sir, a sniff absolutely is a way of showing disapproval. Often followed by a raise of the eyebrows or averting the eyes, but nonetheless a part of the act indeed!
Think of people who are complete snobs, and then you get the Idea. In WoT most people think they are better than everyone else, a "sniff" meaning that they think the idea "stinks". To be honest though the cold stares are sometimes a bit weird, but if you think about it, would you like noticing an Aes Sedai giving you a cold stare, right in the middle of a conversation?
don't forget, a lot of the women in the Wheel of time are a lot more powerful than the men.
@TheKingdomofErnor are you kidding? WoT is more referential, obtuse, and well thought-out than ASOIAF, LoTR, Eragon, or any other fantasy epic for that matter. LoTR is classic only because they were able to make three damn good movies. Also ASOAIF is no comparison to WoT simply because it is much more fictional. Although we can say that the One Power stuff is most definitely fictional, Jordan's world (past AND present) could very well be parallel to our world - he even refs. the Space Shuttle!
@speedcrazy94 Pretending that his world is just our world in the post-apocalyptic distant future doesn't make it more realistic. The character interactions in WoT are unrealistic to the point of being silly and childish. In ASOIAF, characters seem real, with real motivations, and realistic interaction and thought processes.
@MapOfTheLost You really thought there was a lot of thought put into Eragon? For example, look at the name of the main character. It's just Dragon, but the first letter has moved one place in the alphabet. It's just awful :"D
Yeah, it would ruin the series. Probably. I just had the funniest idea ever-well, not quite. Anyone here read Steven Erikson's Malazan Tales? It would be hilarious to see someone try and do something like that.
dude, maybe bad but this is by far the best of the worst I have seen. there are so many god awful WoT movies out now. The one done with World of Warcraft was good except the audio was so ridiculous.
There better not be any movies made about this series - it's far too epic, far too complex to do justice to in a movie. They would have to leave out a huge amount of detail, many storylines and many characters. Far better if they just leave the books alone and not risk ruining them.
yeah i know i really hope they do something like split the movie up even if the movie is over 4 hr long so like theird be 2 or 3 movies coming out as eye of the world I , II, III or something
My main concern with a film is that the Franchise and interest will wear off after a few films, and the series of them will die beofre they get to finish them
You guys realize this is an old trailer BASED on the video game that came out a while ago right? This has nothing to do with the Universal optioned adaptation of the books (which since they just got less than 3 months ago I'm pretty sure they don't even have a screenplay let alone actors to play any of the characters, and an animated film takes a fairly long time to produce.) It was just a trailer albeit a pretty bad one from the video game released 10 years ago. I do agree this trailer is lame
Blasphemy! This is so inaccurate... since when was the Dark One imprisoned in a giant glass sphere, and why in the world would a sword look like that? The books describe them as 'slightly curved', with a single edge, not double-edged and with a thinner section near the hilt! God, Universal will bomb on this one... (I had a Foretelling)
i doubt a miniseries maybe a really long one for just one book way to many things going on and what i find important to capture so extra long series would be better =P
and... could :35 be Lan, maybe, possible, a chance at all? that helmet is worn by the kingdom thingy that started with an 'Mal' that Lan is the last of
....Well good....I guess. But I dont think he will have the power in writing like Robert Jordan. hmmm I wish Jordan could have finished his wonderful works himself.
I was thinking the other day that such a long series of books could only be turned into a TV series, never a movie. There are (or rather, will be) twelve books, plus prequels, and these days your average book is made into a 3 hour movie, so each book would equate to three hours of screen time. A 36 episode series of one hour segments, or a 72 episode series of half hour segments. Though in truth, I don't think the Wheel of Time could ever translate to the screen.

The only way they could possibly do these amazing books justice is to pick some of the sub plots to make a movie out of, or maby pick a book in the middle and keep the action going like starting the movie with the taking of the stone of Tear with no backstory.
johnyretail 3 years ago
...or make an epic tv-series a'la Heroes
viktornolsson 3 years ago
That is providing the films will be made. Universal only has the rights.
If they do make the films the story will have to be condensed down, twelve films is just not possible from any angle.
There is the danger that the films will be seen as 'Lord of the Rings' clones or it could end up like Eragon.

hope it doesnt end up like Eragon! they fuckin ruined my favourite book with that terrible movie.

What do you expect when they make a movie from a horrible book :)
nittiku 2 years ago
O.O how can you say Eragon is a terrible book? Its brilliant!
VinnyChambers 2 years ago
Because, honestly it was a horrible attempt at ripping off three of the best fantasy series of all time. The Wheel of Time, Star Wars, and The Lord of The Ring. If you think i'm retarded look at "Brom and Eragon" = "Obie Wan and Luke" i've killed your father you are the last of your kind, let me train you. wheel of time look at eragons brother "strong hammer" and Wheel of times Perrin safes home town weilds a hammer and grows a beard has wife kiddnaped and the whole world tolkein created
mafiapride 2 years ago 4
of course there are similarities, i grant that.
VinnyChambers 2 years ago
Eragon wasn't the so much the last, but the beginning of the next, eh? Just like Lukie boy. As for the writing, "Eragon" is so poorly written, it's almost as if he was planning on it being made into a crappy movie that shoved the plot around until it sorta made sense.
temporalcrux 2 years ago 3

ouch. :P i think we'll have to agree to disagree. I honestly find Eragon to be brilliantly written. Trust me, i have a REAL short attention span, but i can read Eragon for hours on end. I wouldnt do that if it was badly written. And till now, everything ive read in Eragon has made sense :-/ oh well
VinnyChambers 2 years ago
But see, that's the thing. The way he writes is so choppy and... well.. childish. It was too jumpy. Then again, people who read Jordan's later stuff say it takes too long. Writers mature, their writing matures. Sadly, Eragon only gained more plot, not a better writing style.

well, i suppose some people prefer different writing styles. I personally like his and i dont really find it childish but i suppose thats up to the reader. And if it is childish, i hope it stays childish in the next book cause i lov the way he writes. :P

Roundy1993 2 years ago
Eragon is alright. It's what got me into fantasy, but after reading WoT I realize that Eragon just isn't nearly as well written or thought outt.
MapOfTheLost 2 years ago 55
@MapOfTheLost Eragon isn't an epic fantasy like WoT I wouldn't expect there to be the same level of detail. However, Eragon as a whole is not very well written to begin with. I completely agree with you on that point. I really wish they would make a movie out of this. The only problem would be shortening it. Twelve movies or more isn't quite what Hollywood does at this point in time.
BrutalT6 1 year ago
@BrutalT6 I dont think WoT should be made into movies because getting 12 movies together to represent such an epic series would be very hard. There is too much potential for something to go wrong. Best books ever and I dont want Hollywood to mess this up.
TheLanMandragoran 1 year ago
@TheLanMandragoran They could be made into animated movies. That way the aging of actors wouldn't be a problem

RoadWarrior008 1 year ago 3
My thoughts exactly.
Creten 1 year ago
@MapOfTheLost That kid couldn't write his way out of a wet paper bag. He wasn't merely inspired by certain authors, he blatantly plagiarised them. To say Eragon was "all right" is giving praise where absolutely none is due. Watch now as the author of those books fades into absolute obscurity which he rightly deserves.
NASCreations 1 year ago
@NASCreations I see your point. I read the book at a pretty young age, and while it DOES suck it's a pretty easy book to digest. Like I said, thanks to it I was able to move on to great series like A Song of Ice and Fire and of course, Wheel of Time.
MapOfTheLost 1 year ago
@MapOfTheLost Do remember that Eragon is targeting youths around the age of 13-16 :) I books are fairly well written and the plot is corresponding to the age group it is targeting. I love WoT but.. COME ON! It's Eragon o.O
Rawrcookiedough 1 year ago
@MapOfTheLost For the most part I agree with you, about Eragon. Yet I think his magic is one of the most interesting. It's theoretically limitless, and yet massively constrained. Though I think the books aren't original enough, the part's that are original really are original.
Altonahk 1 year ago
@MapOfTheLost Neither is wot, like how ishmael said that rand had joined him in past lives (dragonmount prologue) but now says the dark one wants to destroy the world. If rand did that they would've won and there'd b no world. That's been on my mind since i've read the last 2 books.
Haldinyar 11 months ago
@MapOfTheLost WoT made you realize Eragon isn't well written or thought out? Holy shit, Eragon must be absolute garbage in that case. Read ASOIAF, it's what got me into fantasy a few years ago, and I haven't seen anything top it. It truly makes WoT look and feel like a kid's show.
TheKingdomofErnor 8 months ago
@TheKingdomofErnor im currently reading ASOIAF 4th book and I don`t totally agree with you it may be a more adult universe but it simply is not as epic as the WoT and the whole serie is way too dark for my taste. It is well written and certainly deserves to be considered one of the best fantasy series of all time but I like the WoT a lot more because I get to care much more about it`s characters then those in ASOIAF. Not to mention some of the great humor contained in the WoT.
megaminx1900 7 months ago
@megaminx1900 I actually find WoT agonizing because the author makes the same terrible jokes over and over. "Herp derp, males and females can never understand each other!". It's not even true, relateable, or funny.
TheKingdomofErnor 7 months ago
@megaminx1900 Not to mention the many things in the books which could be call outright retarded. One example: characters sniff to show disapproval. The author never explains why sniffing is supposed to show this, he just acts like it's a normal human expression.
Another example: Old women giving "cold stares" making men jump. It's completely stupid and unrealistic.
TheKingdomofErnor 7 months ago
@TheKingdomofErnor
Folp9 7 months ago
@Folp9 I wasn't talking about Aes Sedai, and no, sniffing is not a way of showing disapproval outside of WoT, lol.
TheKingdomofErnor 7 months ago
@TheKingdomofErnor
Folp9 7 months ago
@TheKingdomofErnor
Tagnikzur1 6 months ago
@TheKingdomofErnor are you kidding? WoT is more referential, obtuse, and well thought-out than ASOIAF, LoTR, Eragon, or any other fantasy epic for that matter. LoTR is classic only because they were able to make three damn good movies. Also ASOAIF is no comparison to WoT simply because it is much more fictional. Although we can say that the One Power stuff is most definitely fictional, Jordan's world (past AND present) could very well be parallel to our world - he even refs. the Space Shuttle!
speedcrazy94 7 months ago
@speedcrazy94 Pretending that his world is just our world in the post-apocalyptic distant future doesn't make it more realistic. The character interactions in WoT are unrealistic to the point of being silly and childish. In ASOIAF, characters seem real, with real motivations, and realistic interaction and thought processes.
TheKingdomofErnor 7 months ago
@MapOfTheLost You really thought there was a lot of thought put into Eragon? For example, look at the name of the main character. It's just Dragon, but the first letter has moved one place in the alphabet. It's just awful :"D
Rivirland 7 months ago
people should make a new game of it, would be awesome (even if they wouldn't follow the storyline)
Ursanclaw 3 years ago
Yeah, it would ruin the series. Probably. I just had the funniest idea ever-well, not quite. Anyone here read Steven Erikson's Malazan Tales? It would be hilarious to see someone try and do something like that.
Presto1995 3 years ago
dude, maybe bad but this is by far the best of the worst I have seen. there are so many god awful WoT movies out now. The one done with World of Warcraft was good except the audio was so ridiculous.
Obsidianhr 3 years ago
There better not be any movies made about this series - it's far too epic, far too complex to do justice to in a movie. They would have to leave out a huge amount of detail, many storylines and many characters. Far better if they just leave the books alone and not risk ruining them.
XBillums 3 years ago
yeah i know i really hope they do something like split the movie up even if the movie is over 4 hr long so like theird be 2 or 3 movies coming out as eye of the world I , II, III or something

My main concern with a film is that the Franchise and interest will wear off after a few films, and the series of them will die beofre they get to finish them
lmgadd 3 years ago

NoobixCube 4 years ago 2
I agree, but if it ever was translated into a series, it would never truly capture the essence of te books.
