was just in egypt for a 14 day holdiday, one of the afternoons we took a taxi ride trough garbage city on the way to church in the rock (totally lame)
. It was definitely a site to see, with an apt name.
Although cairo itself is very dirty and polluted, it is taken to another level in the garbage city area.
Would still recommend it, felt very safe, and so much to see and do.Pyramids, nile cruise, luxor etc. Sharm el sheik resort was amazing too. ,
sooo good. saw it at seattle intnl film festival after i went to cairo (and trash city!)in march. it was by far the most interesting place i saw in cairo...see the film, have your friends see the film. this film is a fulfillment of when he says at the end--someday the world will appreciate the zabbaleen....
I stumbled upon GARBAGE DREAMS at the Bermuda film festival. A true coming of age story set in the most unlikely of places! A city of garbage!
This film moved me to tears. It is almost impossible to watch this globally relevant movie and not feel compelled to act in some way to help promote, publicize and celebrate it, as well as these vibrant, determined and innovative people. The Zaballeens dreams are our dreams, and their fight for survival should be our fight as well. A must-see!
I enjoyed this documentary at SXSW, it was a sold out !!! for the Sunday 4:30 show, the long and double line for badge holders and the also long line for the "if you don't have a ticket you're screw" line, the ACC was full of people expecting the aclaimed documentary from film maker Mai Iskander, a hand held film but very good edition and direction!!!

I saw this documentary - it's very good - the Zabaleen recycle %80 of the garbage they collect.
