As you stated they actually have a different chemical structures so one shouldn't automatically assume identical reactivity in the body. Would you say fructose and glucose are the same because they both enter glycolysis? Fructose does other thing sin the body too later found out to be bad.

iv injected heroin everyday for 15 years..other than going to prison or being on the metadone program..the only way i could quit is drinking a a full 100 mills of methadone..then you cant feel the heroin because you got so much methadone in you..this got me off the needle and junk..now i go to the clinic once bio weehly and i can hold a job and have a relationshi^p with my family...METHADONE SAVES LIFES.

Listen plenty of people work while being an addict. It's called being a "functioning addict" which many times is difficult to treat due to the ability to function with drug addiction. People need to educate thenselves before they speak. This is not meant to offend but to pass along. There is far too much misinformation out there surrounding drug addiction. The idea that legality plays anything other then a miniscule part in peoples decisions about drug use is just not supported by any evidence. In fact surveys have found that many teens are first attricted to drugs because of there illegality it is seen as cool because its forbidden. Thus legalization and harm reduction therapy are the only answers we need more needle exchanges and safe injection centers.

That's Dr George O'Neil from the Fresh Start Recovery Programme in Subiaco Western Australia and I have just read that the state Government has approved $1.5 million for the programme and people all over Australia are coming to WA for this treatment, I personally know of a handful of people that underwent this treatment and they are clean! some of these guys were hooked for over 10 years injecting multiple times a day and now they work and have families and nice cars and well they are HAPPY!

PLZ no1 to try it. I been very lucky & was born into a middle class home where i have been able to use (5 yrs) & not had the consequences MOST have had. I still graduated college while using every day all 4 years. I still work although I only pay rent, car payment & heroin) I havent bought myself clothes, or electronics or anything. Its not even FUN anymore.. after the first couple months it becomes a FULL TIME JOB and although economically im OK, not gr8,but ok.. my social/family life is fucked

Maybe we should make fatty foods illegal. The number one killer in the United States is Heart Disease, followed by Lung Cancer. Actually, cultivating papaver somnifinerum is really easy, but the process of getting heroin out of that can get really expensive, I do agree with the rest tho.

Make opiates legal to adults over 25 with no felony record. Heroin's full name is diacetylmorphine. This is morphine with 2 aceytyl groups. Heroin is a semi-synthetic morphine ester. So a "heroin addict" is actually physically dependent on morphine .

@dtastl That is true but certain aspects of heroin make it do different things in the body. For example the acetyl groups enable heroin to pass the blood brain barrier more rapidly. As you stated they actually have a different chemical structures so one shouldn't automatically assume identical reactivity in the body. Would you say fructose and glucose are the same because they both enter glycolysis? Fructose does other thing sin the body too later found out to be bad.

In fact surveys have found that many teens are first attricted to drugs because of there illegality it is seen as cool because its forbidden. Thus legalization and harm reduction therapy are the only answers we need more needle exchanges and safe injection centers.

That's Dr George O'Neil from the Fresh Start Recovery Programme in Subiaco Western Australia and I have just read that the state Government has approved $1.5 million for the programme and people all over Australia are coming to WA for this treatment, I personally know of a handful of people that underwent this treatment and they are clean! some of these guys were hooked for over 10 years injecting multiple times a day and now they work and have families and nice cars and well they are HAPPY!

@Xiolablu3 well i dont know about anyone else but if heroin were legal I would be worse off as an addict than i was when it was illegal because it would be easier to get! if i could just walk in a store n buy some like i do alcohol it would be the end for me. part of what keeps me clean everyday is that i dont have the connections anymore and lost the courage to go out and cop myself somethin. i dont know how much it would be if it were legal and that doesnt even matter.

@Xiolablu3 my point really is that it will not stop ppl from being addicted. u musta never been hooked on heroin. when your addicted your life revolves around getting and using. its a constant vicious cycle. legal or not u still need money to use so there will still be a lot of ppl commiting crimes to keep up with their habits, alcoholics go through the same thing. they end up homeless, losing everything beggin for money or robbin ppl, whatever they gotta do for their next fix.

@gr8fullmom Exactly! everything you said is so true, and is why if Heroin wasn't obscenely expensive, you could still partially life you life. As it is now, you spend all your money on it, you have no money for food, or shelter, and you would probably rob and steal to get more Heroin. Spain gives Heroin for free, given to you by doctors, in clinics and Heron use has fallen tremendously.

@Upinthestarts WHat I am saying is that being addicted not the biggest problem/danger, its made far far worse by the drug being illegal, expensive, and cut with cr*p. Take out the crime/gangs/expense by making it legal and the price of paracetemol and addicts wouldnt have to sell their body, use drugs cut with deadly cr*p, steal to fund it, or mix with criminals to get it. I know a lot of heroin addicts who have a totally normal life (job/family etc) , but choose to do heroin.

@Xiolablu3 even though teens already can have access to these drugs it would be so much easier to have access for them if it was legal....yea gangs and crime lords get money off the drugs but they make it illegal so that we dont become the bad guys also they would still buy it off of dealers cuz they wont need to go through the bother of prescriptions and such solutions are not that easy.....and no drug addict lives a normal life

@Upinthestarts There are many types of addictions. Food addiction is one of them, and is an addiction which kills more people than all drug overdoes and all car crashes combined. Maybe we should make fatty foods illegal. The number one killer in the United States is Heart Disease, followed by Lung Cancer. Lets make our laws based on logic and facts, not by misconceptions that one addiction is worse than another because of misinformation and fear tactics.

@Milundi If its low in price and legal the addict doesnt need to steal, sell drugs, sell their body etc. in order to acquire money for the drug.Also needles would be clean and available, so no infections.Treatment would be easier to give to the users as well.If it was legal, the addict would be taken out of the whole "criminal" lifestyle and it would improve their life.As far as the effects of addiction, the drug if taken regularly in a safe manner wont cause serious harm to the body.

Actually, cultivating papaver somnifinerum is really easy, but the process of getting heroin out of that can get really expensive, I do agree with the rest tho.

@Xiolablu3 Monetary expense is not nearly the only bad part of heroin addiction, or addiction in general.
I'm for the legalization of all drugs, for cleanliness, affordability, regulation, and practicality. It would make life easier for nonusers, users, and addicts.
I know addicts, and I do feel extreme sympathy for them. But addiction is a much more complicated and typically deep seeded problem than a lack of money.
Let them stay as sober as they'd like, let us use, and let addicts get help.

That is the sole purpose of a junkie, once one is addicted. Like this poor girl said, "heroin takes complete control over your life." I agree it would stop the crime, but having the most addictive substance there is legal and readily available to the public would have a devastating effect on the lives of millions, as well as society.

I live in Heroin Central...junk ruins lives by being ADDICTIVE no junkie could ever function or live a normal life unless they were taking the tiniest amount a day (which by virtue of the nature of heroin is so unlikely anyway) and that has nothing to do with legality. Yeah if it was legalised there'd be no need to rob or sell yourself but at the end of the day heroin would still take over the user's body and make them dependent whether legal or not.

You can just say, "You've never been there and you don't know how hard it is to quit" and then shoot up. I honestly think if you want to live your life like a normal being without having to rely on heroin, there should be no excuses. Have some discipline, don't let a fucking drug control you. Hang out with good people. It's hard to quit because life probably feels like shit without heroin, but it will get better, and you won't regret it in the long run.

@psycopink its more of a mental thing i guess,i liked who i was when i was on the shit,i was calm cool and colective,i was smooth enough to pick up almost any women i wanted,i felt like i had life under control,without opiates,life is more chaotic for me than it ever has been,so for me,in my personal opinion,no life is not better,I fill as though i went from being in heaven to the deepest pit of hell,but than again i suffer from deppresion,anxiety and all sorts of crap.
