always makes me sad this song....the carnival is life itself...and makes me want to do everything I ever wanted to do...before my carnival is over...brilliant...
Absolutely exquisite- such melancholia when I hear this but surely so beautiful for all ages. That voice, the lyrics and that melody are so pure and joyous... incredible!!! We love you.
Thanks for posting and adding the comments. "90,000 records per week" amazing- that's when sales and the charts et al really meant something.
@dwmpbird No truer words written, dwmpbird. I grew up listening to classic artistes such as the Seekers and continue to do so. Thanks for sharing this.
What a beautiful song, sung superbly and live !!!! Came across it by accident, memories from 70's back again, great. Ordered the Seekers greatest hits on Amazon for £3.
i'm 52 and remember judith and the seekers from earliest memories, my mum loved them too........ so glad i was around to enjoy one of the finest performers of all time...........
just fantastic we should all treasure theses memories i know i will .i sing carnival is over sometime's on karaoke and my daughter love's it .those's were the day's. true raw talent .thank god for you tube .i am 59 and my kid's are age between 34 &41 they love it when i play a song they haven't heard before.hope you'll agree with me.
What a wonderful song. It brings back so many happy memories of friends and times so long ago. This song will never die or be forgotten. It's trully one of the great songs of the past half century. Judith has a mesmering voice - so sweet.
Pitch perfect and so powerful a simply stunning voice and performance.Just love that Australian accent you sometimes hear.Pax to all from 73soulboy.Xxx.
Such a wonderful voice..Unique in fact..and her angelic facial expression as she sings each line..Beutiful and brings back such wonderful memories of the 60's era!!!!..I was only 11 years old when this was a hit and loved her amazing voice!!..Judith Durham and Karen Carpenter..two magical female singers of the past!!..my favs!!!
Heard this here in the States many years ago. i was just a kid listening to my sister's 45's back in the late 60' when I first heard it. Loved the song then, love it now. Great, great, post. Thanks so much for it.
I certainly hope this video is not deleted. I have been listening to it a couple of times a week for quite a while now. I have it on cd but I enjoy seeing her sing it on video. Makes me wonder if someone with a voice like hers..how would she fare on American Idol?? Also think about that when I listen to Karen Carpenter. Another favorite of mine.
@ceekay0802 I copied it. If this disappears; I will risk a warning and put up again.. for a week or so. I hate the WMG cops. Flash lynx video downloads is a good program. I just transfer the songs to a file, of which I have about 40 lists of 15 songs a piece.
In the late 60s, at my school's farewell party for for those of us who were passing out, there was not a dry eye when this song was played at the very end.
Similar emotions were experienced on the last day at college where 'When will I see you again' by the Three Degrees was played.
Recently, at the end of an old students get together we bid farewell to old friends to 'Dandelion Wine ' by Blackmore's Night.
All these are songs of farewell but, The Carnival is Over is very special.
I love this version of this song. Judith's voice is softer on this version. Perhaps she was reacting to the people crying in the audience because this song was introduced at their last song together. Maybe is the band, I dunno, I just like this version best.
Fabulous...I don't know what happened in 1968 and also 1969 because the music was so beautiful, diverse, such as Judith Durham's angelic voice. It's as though the hand of God came down from heaven and touched the Earth and this great music came forth. It was also a time in my life and specifically 1968 when the world began to turn for me.
Not quite over! The Seekers will reunite to open Andrea Rieu concerts across Australia throughout late September and October. I am so tempted to drop the dime to fly from the USA to see the last performance in Melbourne. I suspect this might be the last time the Fab 4 perform together. Pure musical magic. No three guys ever made square look so cool and no woman ever made modesty look so sexy. I just received the full farewell show DVD from a seller on ioffer and can't stop watching.
I got so tired of my favorite videos being deleted from Youtube that I downloaded the free version of Realplayer to record the videos such as The Seekers to my hard drive so I can listen to them at anytime without worrying about not finding them again.
Judith sings like an angel, simply put the best female singer ever, and talented in many other ways too, and she looks great in HD. She is also a great person who cares deeply about others, and this earth. She sings love is fleeting, so we need t live for today, as that is all we have, and from your friends in San Francisco, we will love you til I die
Ask any of them who Pierrot and Columbine are! No one writes like this any longer and it is truly sad - or maybe some can but there is no market for it. In either case, it is sad.
Absolutely fantastic. One of the few albums I kept from my Mum and Dad's collection was the Best of the Seekers and when I was growing up I worked out my favourites for my 12 string guitar. I have just belted this out in the privacy of my den and will be adding it to you Facebook page. Thank you so very much for giving us all the chance to hear Judith's effortless singing again. An unashamedly gushing...A xx
I absolutely Love this song. Its the first song I can remember hearing as I sat in the car with my mum in NZ as a 5 year old.
My wife thinks I'm nuts as I'll literally sit at my computer and play this song over and over. These guys were class all the way, and what a fantastic voice Judith has
@clutch1963 You're no nuts! I can sit and listen to these magic voices for hours. Makes me believe that there is still room in the world for beauty and love.
@clutch1963 HiI was 12 when the Carnival Is Over was recorded right to this day i play it regular, todays artists haven't a clue about music not the same as it was in the old days
@clutch1963 hey, I was 10 years old and lived in NZ when our family was given a record of their hits. I listened to it over and over again. I know why you cant stop watching it, she is absolutely beautiful. I dont recall seeing her then, only when she was older. But you are right, the arrangements are magnificent. We lived in Christchurch. I think we were given the record as a goodbye present when we moved to Australia. My heart still belongs in Christchurch.
I enjoyed this lovely song very much and like so many 60's songs it has a quality of life affirmation,a good thing if you ask me.The music in the here and now is not all bad either but will it bring back memories as wonderful 30 or 40 years hence?I do enjoy a new artist by the name of Emilie Mover who is a very fine singer as well, still Judith has my ear but I still have room for those who know how to sing with harmony even now. Thanks for sharing this video with us all,it is beautiful!
Judith has a voice that is perfection!! Thanks for the memories. The 60's memories are sweeter while replaying her songs. Truler lovers do come and go..some we will love until we die; and some we will love forever!!
this video MUST be shown to all our youngsters....then they would see what REAL TALENT IS....maybe then a lot of them would think twice about the X FACTOR...these have it....most dont
Forget it,media of today are not interested in showing something like this. The only place youngsters can come over this type of music is here on Youtube if the videos are not deleted then.
@Proculled You said it. I'm young for this music's "standards". I come here to enjoy the this wonderful music. Today's stuff is written to the core. Thanks for sharing this WONDERFUL stuff!
It's amazing the music that four individuals can make, with no overdubbing or unusual effects. Whell, the orchestra in the back doesn't hurt either. But I love the Seekers!
I grew up listening to these guys in NZ and they will always be very special and among my favs for ever and ever, thanks Seekers. I have to say I love the double bass.
