  • Does the box/packaging even matter?

  • I read on some reviews that the serpa holster scratches the frame of 1911s and glocks. After have some use and testing, did you find and problems with the holster?

  • @sootch00 Would this still work if you had an extended mag release on your glock?

  • I use a fobus gl2 but it's so tough to release my firearm from the holster.. Do you recommend this over any other holster?

  • Thank you ..from Thailand :)

  • I put a thin piece of traction tape on the release so I could feel it beter

  • bought one the other day .......very sweet luv it. also made in the USA

  • looks like a great holster, however i cant seem to find one that will fit my XDm 40cal. 3.8 model. Any pointers?

  • I have been told by a guy that if I bought one for my walther p99 as that it would wear down the finish... But I have not been told any different by anyone.

  • Does it wear down the finish very bad?

  • @rkoify If you are using the correct holster for your gun you can expect your finish to be kept safe. The contact points are minimal and are mostly around the trigger guard

  • This holster also fits the Fnh Fnx 9mm. It fits perfectly I'm very happy

  • i have one of these but with a leg panel for 1911 :) this is an awesome holster!

  • Great review, thank you!

  • I love the serpa. I would recommend it to anyone

  • How harsh is the holstering wear on the Glock? I don't generally like polly holsters because of the wear it causes on both the slide and grip. I like the level of secureness that you get with this because it seams like it would work well with hicap mag extensions which caused a lot of rear weight that your average holster can't handle. I don't care, I'm getting a few!

  • great video and very helpful. Thanks!!

  • Just picked up this holster based primarily on your video. I'm using it with a Glock 22 - Your video is very accurate and informative. Thank you! I am very pleased with my purchase.

  • You conceal it with a loose fitting shirt or a jacket. I carry my glock 23 in this holster everyday. I will admit it's not the best design for warmer climates.

  • Why is is called Concealment? I dont see how you can conceal it,

  • Excelente, gracias!

  • my gun is 1911 ar taurus...i need ur advice what kind of holster ...fit for 1911 ar...tnx...god bless

  • @joace2916 if you go to Blackhawk's website they have a SERPA concealment holster for 1911

  • Excellent review Brother. Thanks for sharing. God bless you!

  • @AronTheAirsoftSniper just get a paddle holster, they work better and are more useful than a belt holsters.

  • Will the belt loop fit a 2" duty belt?

  • awesome vid!!

  • What other strong sturdy belts would you recommend?

  • great out takes! lol

  • long live the republic..........

  • my Serpa is severely wearing the coating on my G27.

  • Sootch- Do you know this holster also fit in the Glock 19 and 26? I just dont want to buy three holsters for three glocks.

  • How this holster conceals? Would you use it all seasons?

  • can this holster carries both airsoft and real glock 17?

  • @airsoftbrian Depends. The Marui is too big for some holsters, but the HFC and KSC / KWA should fit fine.

  • @John234pwns how 'bout classic army's glocks?

  • @airsoftbrian I haven't tested them, but as far as I know, only the Marui has issues with accessories. Go to a shop and try it in person, maybe?

  • @airsoftbrian yes.

  • Hey sootch, do you know if Blackhawk makes a Serpa holster for the mkiv series 80 officers?

  • @UbergebenSieNie They don't make a specific model, only 5' Govt size, but the triggerguard is identical so it should fit either way.

  • Sootch - excellent vids. I have 2 Serpas and several quality leather holsters for my G22 and G27. I have found that the Serpas don't wear the gun finish like the leather holsters. has this been your experience??? Also, love the outtakes at the end of the vid.

  • Snootch- great review! I'm gonna buy one of these next week for my Glock 17 as well because of your video. Well done, my friend.

  • I have just bought one for my 1911! Sootch00, thanks for his great review.

  • Very, Very good vid sir!! I bought a paddle holster from Sig that didn't fit, so I had to resort to this holster. It works great.

  • I have one for my SIG P226. Excellent.

  • Great review on this holster. Trying to find this holster online isn’t easy. Blackhawk has so many holsters with so many names, only thing I can go by is by comparing the holster in your review with photos of the holster at the online store. Closest I can find is described as BlackHawk Serpa Sportster Paddle Holster, Manufacturer #: 413500BK-R. The letters CQC is not in the description. Do you have the manufacturers part number?

  • Great video on the Serpa... Looks like they don't make it for the G30...

  • Sootch, great in depth video on the Serpa. I have been wanting one of these for my XDM. Now after watching your video I believe I will have to order one. Oh, btw was that ZT blade you were carrying in the video?

  • Great info! My SERPA holster is modeled for a Springfield XD, but it fits my Taurus 24/7 Pro quite securely and snugly without any modification. Got it mainly as a range/open carry holster, but surprisingly, it conceals pretty well (and is comfortable) under an open button-up shirt at the 4:00 position. I'd HIGHLY recommend getting the SERPA quick-disconnect kit, because removing that hooked paddle in a hurry (restroom break or getting in a car) can be really tricky.

  • I carry my M1911 in this holster! it is an AWSUME holster. It holds that weapon right where I leave it. Get it, you will LOVE it!

  • great review I am SOLD!

  • Comment removed

  • Ive been using the uncle mikes holster for sometime now very similar to this one but the uncle mikes does not have the paddle which to me allows even a quicker and more simple action to withdraw your firearm.

  • I just recently bought this holster for my Sig Sauer P229R and LOVE it. I did a review video as well but NOWHERE near as good as this one. Your video gave me good ideas on how to improve my videos I just sub'ed. THANKS

  • There is a possible design flaw with that holster, I will not own one, see issue here- watch?v=McE1zyDiEMQ

  • great vid keep them comming i was planing on getting one for a g22.. i gotta good question tho. how many times did he take the gun out the holster in this vid? lolz.. idk didnt count lolz

  • I always thought of a serpa as a duty holster the US marshals in my area use the serpa with a 23

  • You videos are getting better and better Brother.

    Blessings!

    Larry

  • I have used the serpas for years, love it. The high top serpa can not be used to reinsert the gun backwards for the reload when you have lost use of an arm, it will make the weapon get stuck in it, only use the low tops for this drill. It is not the best concealment because it sticks out from the body alot. They are a challenge to draw weakhanded. Other than that I love it. I've never had a "jam" some folks are talking about. To the others quit touting the quals you don't have please. Be You!

  • Best holster review I've seen. Very thorough! Thanks.

  • Thank you for the tech tips on the serpa holster. I wasnt aware of putting silicone spray on the locking mechanism .

  • neat ! 5 *****'s

  • Hey Sootch, ive been in the market for a great CCW holster. Preferably an in-the-pants holster. I have a serpa and can usually conceal it pretty well, during the winter time. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could find a great CCW in the pants holster? Thanks

  • Great video showing all the features of the Blackhawk Serpa holster. Thanks Sootch

  • Side Note: Sootch didnt mention it when discussing retention but the serpas are made that if someone were to attempt to pull your sidearm from the serpa, they must depress the padle release prior to pulling, if someone just starts yanking at your pistol then tries to depress the padle release it will not disingage while the weapon is being pulled on.

  • Couldnt agree more Scootch. I own 5 serpas and 2 drop leg platforms. use them for work and play. excellent Excellent system. By the way 04:51 ... "That's What She Said!" haha

    "Glow In The Dark"

    -Radioactive

  • P.S. – In my opinion the Serpa holster is not well suited for CCW's who don’t want people to know that they are carrying a gun. The holster just sticks out to much from the waist and "prints" a very obvious picture of a gun through t-shirts and any thinner kind of clothing. People who live in colder climates and frequently wear jackets and coats obviously don’t have this problem.

  • The retention on the holster is fine but, as soon as you apply a fairly small amount of pulling tension onto the pistol it becomes very difficult to activate the release mechanism because of how it is designed. Once you apply a greater amount of tension onto the pistol (Something which is to be expected in a high stress situation) it becomes nearly impossible to draw the gun or at least it will delay the draw. Just my point of view Cheers.

  • Hey Scootch, nice review thanks. I however have to disagree with you on behalf of my own experience. I have owned a BH Serpa holster for about four year, and have used it many times at the range. However I have stopped using it and would never carry my pistol in a Serpa holster into combat or any threat situation because:

  • these are great for a chest rig, or when a person can open carry, but i find them too bulky for CC. i really like this retention system, but my open top Kramer works best for belt carry on my g-19.

  • Hey Sootch how do you like the serpa over the UM-84 ... God bless ...

  • @1mrgasgas1 I love both holsters and wouldn't part with either. They are for different situations. The UM-84 would provide more protection while camping, Bugging out or all prupose. The Serpa is more suited to every day carry or at the range. I personally don't think this is the perfect CCW holster, even though it's called "Concealment Holster". Thanks Bro~

  • @sootch00 - I bought one of these a couple of years ago and I love it and use it with my Glock 22. Thanks for the video

  • You call these proven? They're only proven to jam.

No Army or SF guy I know would wear one of these things to combat.

  • @supermaucat In the 2 1/2 years I've worn a level 3 on duty I've never had 1 problem, even after getting them jammed down into dirt and snow in knock down drag out fights.

  • @uncleben03 Throw some dust/sand in its lock. You'll never be able to get it out without breaking the holster. Search here on YT for examples. If that happens in combat, you could be dead.

If your life depends on it, don't use SERPA. Use it for range/testing.

  • @supermaucat Like I said, I've had this holster absolutely jammed into dirt and sand while fighting people, to the point where there's dirt and sand all over my gun from it getting inside the holster. Still worked fine. To each is own, if you don't trust it, don't use it. It's proven itself to me so far.

  • @uncleben03 So just because it hasn't happened to you, you still use it? It's like driving a car without a seatbelt... it's cool until you crash and fly through a window and die.

Point is that SERPA jams often and has happened to a ton of people and you can see it online here.

Other holsters, like Safariland, don't jam. EVER. And it's the holster that Rangers and SF and other military people with a clue wear.

  • @supermaucat Well, I always use my seatbelt so that's a moot point. What I'm saying to you in MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, the holster has not jammed at all even with debris covering the inside and outside. If you wanna make a comparison, some people's Ford vehicles have blown up when rear-ended, some transmissions explode, some tires explode. I still drive a Ford because it has proven itself to ME. Like I stated before, if you don't feel safe using a SERPA, don't. your research shows you that.

  • Nice Review Sootch00

I have always wanted a more in depth review of Blackhawk Serpa Holster functions and options. although you didn't display its concealment on your person very well so I'm not sold on the CCW aspect, i imagine its a coat or sweater CCW holster as most paddle holsters are.

  • wow verry nice holster

  • So how will does the weapon hold into the holster when on the fast move ( double time ) and going to ground ? Hamm336

  • Fantastic holster, I currently own 2 one for a G27 and one for S&W 642.

  • love the holster...have always wanted one just never got one. so thank god its Christmas ! long live the republic!

  • Good purchase sootch. when I bought my glock 17 three years ago now, I bought the serpa. the only downside is the rigid profile. it's still the only holster i have.

  • Nice review Its on one of my 'things to buy' list. Sooch sporting the paracord what is you wrist measurement? And Would you accept them? If I shipped ;you a couple?

  • The SERPA is not an ideal system for three system for three main reasons; 1) The mechanism that locks the holster is exteriorly placed which allows dirt, grime, and other debris into the mechanism and possibly locking the weapon in the holster. 2) The mechanism could be activated accidentally and cause the weapon to fall out. 3) The mechanism is by the trigger guard and could cause an AD.

  • @USpatriot741776 have you ever used the system? There are situations for each holster. While I don't think the SERPA is the best tactical holster if in dirty, remote locations, it is wonderful for competitive shooting, EDC, patrol etc.

  • @StormForceTac What do you think are some alternatives to the SERPA holster for civilian use, specifically open carry. I live in AZ and unless its too hot for a coat I carry outside the waistband usually openly too.

  • @jkmcdani I am not the person to ask. I personally cannot carry a handgun because of my age. My experience with this holster has been range shooting and a lot of airsoft use.

  • @StormForceTac I have used this system and I'm only referring to a military type usage. I'm sure it would work great for competition and patrol. Maybe not EDC, maybe more of a bladetech or Raven concealment for that. Thank you.

  • @USpatriot741776 Oh ok, I agree with the military usage point. I have gotten mine absolutely filthy and it still functioned perfectly. I think the problem with it in military usage is that is open and allows for the gun to get extremely dirty.

  • @USpatriot741776 I have this holster, 1) right... 2) Are you saying if you're upside down? Think about it! 3) You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. How, in your mind, is it possible for this mechanism to cause an AD?

And you really think in today's America of the lawsuit lottery that a holster designer for a FIREARM would actually put to market a holster that had ANY chance whatsoever of causing an AD?

  • @tigerpurpleheart I have seen several instances where while doing drills the mechanism was activated and the handgun fell out (they were diving to the ground and it flew forward). Also an AD can happen with ANY holster if you draw with your finger by the trigger guard. I was just saying that I believe this design makes it more likely, but I understand you completely. Thanks for the input and allowing me to clarify.

  • @USpatriot741776 I would agree an AD can happen anytime, my point is that it is the shooter's fault. You can't blame that on the holster.

  • I've got a Serpa for my Glock 19. Great option for outside the waistband carry. Comfortable and versatile and carries pretty well cross-draw as well. Great review Sootch! For an inside the waistband option, you should give the Crossbreed Supertuck a try. I have this also for my Glock 26 which is my EDC gun. Love it!!! Thanks for posting.

  • Hey Sootch, great review. I have that exact set up. Gun and holster. Works great. Belt is still very important to the system. Haven't tried the nylon belt you have. I'm looking at the Bull belts you talked about. Keep up the great work. Thanks.

  • This looks like a really comfortable, and effective system. This would be a perfect holster for the glock 19 that I plan on purchasing soon. Its nice to know that it is adjustable to fit different size belts as most women's belts are really thin. Another great review, and nice quick draw technique you look like a pro at that!!! Thanks for posting

  • sootch, thanks for this. I've had one of these in my safe now about 2 years. I fiddled with it once or twice and pretty much forgot about it. I see here that I've got something pretty decent after all and I'd better get after it. Thanks for the in depth instruction. Very, very informative. Have a good one.

  • You should check out the ThumbDrive™ Holster from 5.11 tactical

  • I am wearing a g26 in a serpa holster right now. My favorite owb holster.

  • I think you made the TNP Calendar Sootch - check TNP Don't Suck vid!

  • Ive worn this holster (well their LE Level III Holster) for several years on duty and I STRESS you LOCKTITE the screws. If not then you will be in a running chase and you'll reach down and your holster will not be there.

  • @bigbluemsp You got that right.

  • i odnt even use the paddle (at all) just the holste rlooped through a carbon fiber belt

  • i use this for my g27, my g30, and my HK usp tactical, i think when you consider everything a holster should do for you, the blackhawk serpa is right up there with the best, makes for comfortable carry aswell as drawing super quick. 5*

  • I lost my trigger index finger in an unfortunate lathe accident many years ago. I had to train myself to fire with my middle finger. For anyone missing their main trigger finger, I can attest to the effectiveness of this holster in providing a comfortable middle finger holstering option.

  • I loved my serpa until it broke after a year of use. Then my other holster for a different gun did the same in the same spot. They both broke at the part that goes on the inside of the pants. I ma going to contact blackhawk and see if they will replace them.

  • Dang ... no need for me (or anyone else) to do a review on this holster system now. Nice work!

  • Great video, keep em coming.

  • Thanks for the vid sootch

  • The Blackhawk Serpa holsters are good holsters, but if you are looking for a holster with active retention, the Safariland ALS holsters are a better option IMO. Also, the models that come up over the top of the gun are the Level III holsters. The part that comes up over the top is a rotating hood that is another level of retention. With those there is a button that has to be depressed with your thumb that will rotating the hood forward so that the gun can be drawn.

  • Sootch- I love the Serpa. However, I have found the best concealed carry holster is the Crossbreed. I like many other concealed carry permit holders, have a box ful of misc types I have tried. The Crossbreed holster fits me better and distributes the weight nicely. Could you conduct a reveiw of the crossbreed?

  • Another excellent review of quality gear. Blackhawk makes a Serpa for numerous sidearms. I own multiple Serpas for my different sidearms and have been very happy with its construction, reliability, comfort of wear, and natural / instinctual draw. Did my conceal carry classes w/ a Glock G26 / Serpa combo - worked great.

  • Another great video!

  • if someone draws their weapon and shoots themselves in the leg, they have problem. They obviously didn't have enough training with firearms before they started getting into shooting firearms.

  • Im telling everyone now throw out your current holster and buy this one if you dont already have it. I have one for my berretta and love it. Whatever dumb suck who shoots himself drawing it shouldnt of had a gun in the first place and would of shot themselves with anyother holster. 4:30 PRACTICE!!

  • ive had this very same holster for some time now and love it. stable and strong... and if anyone has shot themselves in the foot because of it i haven't heard about it... to tell you the truth i think you would have to be drool rag stupid in order to do that, and im sure anyone with the serpa would agree

  • Got mine on right now. Thanks sootch00!

  • I have heard bad things about this holster. Apparently in a high stress situation people have been drawing and their finger has been entering the trigger and shooting their thighs and feet. This is with highly trained people too not new comers. This is obviously rare occasions but do to the retention system ... something to consider

  • I've used the SERPA for years and swear by them. I use them for concealed carry with my Custom Colt Commander and I love the Blackhawk drop leg platform and have this as well with a SERPA attached...this I use with my Loaded Springfield 1911's.

When he says it is versatile...he is absolutely correct.

One thing...I use two SERPA's when carrying concealed. One for firing (Strong) side carry and one for a cross draw carry. I transfer to cross draw when in the car or sitting. This works great.

  • Our police department uses these for our plain clothes units and we love it. Best holster I've ever used.

  • Had one of those that broke right off my belt last year. It hit the door frame of my car, cracked and hit the deck. I did not even know it broke(thunder and pouring rain). I just happened to look down as I was closing my car door and there my weapon was, sitting in the gutter! Never again will I use these types of holsters. I moved on to Crossbreeds and MTAC holsters.

  • Great Video.... I have this same model holster... and I love it.. I also have the Molle attachment mount,, and that is pretty nice.. You should try it out...

  • Spot on review

  • another great top notch review

  • Great video Sootch00. Very thorough and doesn't leave any room for questions. Happy shooting and Merry Christmas!

  • *****

  • +++++

  • I've been using the Serpa's for years on a daily basis. I have one for every gun I carry. Don't listen to these horror stories that people tell you on the internet. You will very quickly notice they never personally used one and they will bash this system because they prefer Safariland locking holsters. Safariland is great! But I just prefer this locking release system over Safarilands thumb locks.

  • Hey Sootch, one quick comment.... You should consider tightening the screw just forward of the release buttin about 1/8th to a 1/4r turn.. your weapon should not rattle around in the holster like that. It should be a little tight. The screw will put tension on the release as well as grab the trigger guard better as you tightedn it, and has the reverse effect by looseing it...

    Great vid Sootch!!!

  • WOW

  • Love the one I have for my XD45!!

  • These serpa holsters rock, I have 2, one for my usp compact 9mm and the other for my glock 19 !

  • Like the video,, a little to long,,,we got it in the first 10 minutes

  • great review

  • LOVE IT. !!! HAVE IT!!!!!

  • @tcarp1616 big ditto!

  • the draw at 4:10, That is quick, just like in the wild west :)

  • Good holsters I scored a couple last year. I like to carry a P220 .45 Sig in left handed Serpa with the little 3m Dinoc carbon fiber sticker accent. Hope to get a lefty lvl 3 Serpa thigh rig in the future.

  • Love those outtakes!!!

  • Yes sir--Love my serpa--best holster on the market in my opinion...nothing comes close--Good review as always--didnt know about the silicone spray--thanks

  • Another great video brother, all my handguns use these and I also use it for my CCW / EDC

  • I use one of these everyday at work and it is GREAT. It's strong, light, fast, and doesn't catch on my clothing. Good review on a great product.

  • Love the Blackhawk Serpa holster. I have two, one for my Glock 22 and one for my S&W SW9VE. Good review Sootch!

  • Superb video, as usual. Very thorough on details.

This looks like a very nice holster.

    Keep up the excellent videos.

  • great reveiw sootch, keep up the top work, take carebud.

  • cant beat the serpa level 2. i've carried with one for almost a year now. i use the paddle for ease of putting it on and it holds it more stable than just the belt.

  • Great review!

  • Thanks Sootch , Great review , I purchased that exact holster last week for my Glock 22 and i love it , no regrets so far .

Today i'm going out with a local rangemaster to learn a few things

  • The fit of my Sig P226 in my new Serpa level 2 CQC holster was tight enough to make the holster ride up with the gun during the draw. The adjustment screw did not help. Very annoying and potentially dangerous.

The solution was silicone as Sootch mentioned. I wiped the interior of the holster with a silicone rag (I don't have a spray). That added enough slip to fix the draw problem. Works like a charm now. Love this holster!

  • Your outtakes are how I normally talk :) I guess that's why I don't make videos...

And, btw, very good demo of the holster; thank you.

  • Thanks Sootch, I'm sold! Thanks also for the discounts.

  • I would say its more for open carry than concealed carry.

You have way better options to conceal your gun.

  • one disadvantage about the serpa compared to the traditional thumb break style holster is that if the serpa is mounted on the right hip(dominant hip), its near impossible to draw the weapon with your left hand(i.e non-dominant hand).

  • Great review Sootch! I've been using the SERPA Level 3 (with the hood) light-bearing for my duty belt for a couple years now, I'll never go to anything else unless required by the PD. Amazingly, the Level3 is just as fast as the Level 2 Serpa's. I have a level 2 for off duty carry also, just like the one you reviewed. I prefer using the paddle over the belt slide though.

  • * impordant

  • I've got one for my G17. They're great!

  • Thank you for the very thorough review. I was wondering, how comfortable is it to place it on your left side, when you are right hand dominant? I am more used to having a shoulder carry system, and as you know, in that system the gun is on the opposite of your dominant hand. So I figure I may change it up some days to carry on the other side, besides my right side. Also have you tried the serpa shoulder system by any chance, and your thoughts? This is a system I have been eying. Thank you again

  • It's a shame it doesn't lay inside the waistband. I'd be all over it if it was better concealing.

  • Good review.... I have the serpa level 2 for my G27 and Beretta 92F. I also have the blackhawk quick detach/attach and I love it. With the quick detach/attach you can go from hip mount to leg drop, or chest mount very quick and fast. as long as you have the blackhawk system already.

  • I've used these holsters with several of my handguns and they've all been great. Good review as always.

  • now i fergot to enjoy video god bless america to

  • love the bloopers.

  • Thanks for the awesome review! I have seen it in TNP and its nice to have a good review.

  • I have used this holster for work for the last three years. Great buy I would like to purchase on for personal use which can take a TLR1 light.

  • @Stiffy807 Unfortunately the light-bearing SERPA's only work with Blackhawk's Xiphos NT light, they won't work with any other brand of weapon light. Reason being that the Xiphos is slightly offset from the centerline of the gun, and the light-bearing SERPA's compensate for that with an extremely precise fit for just those lights. I use the Level 3 light-bearing model for PD work for the last 2 years as well.

  • I have one for my Glock and LOVE it. It is way easier to use than my Galco! Not as concealable, but it WORKS great! Thanks for the video SOOCH!

  • Everytime that I buy a handgun, I always buy a serpa immediatly!!!! I dont ever hesitate buying them, they just work!!!! I have bought many of my friends serpa systems for their weapons as well, I trust them that much.....Blackhawk is an outstanding company with superb customer service!!!! Great vid Sootch

  • i hate saying Blackhawk Holster

  • It is a nice system.
