@itachisagara The Timesplitters games were acceptable and had neat built-in map editors, but they were also very slow paced, console-only shooters. I don't even consider them to be in the same league as games like Doom, Duke Nukem, Quake, and Half-Life.
played quake alot when was growing up has a really nostallgic feeling to it. dont remember hearing any theme music when i played these games though odd
I Was Born In 1997. I Nearly Didn't Get To Play Doom. I Had Doom For A Computer. IT WAS BADASS! I FUCKING LOVED IT! I Am Glad I Wasn't Born In 2000-. Cause Then I Would Be A Pussy.
Quake 2 Yaaaay! I loved the Strogg design in this one a thousand times better than the one in Quake 4. Don't get me wrong, Q4 rocks, but i don't like the Stroggs look in the game that much. The Cybernetic parts in Q2 looked a lot more "unhuman" and brutal than simply changed "real" legs with also human looking machine "Strogg" legs. A bit boring if u ask me. But it's just a matter of taste i guess. :3
@roboguy75 Ehhhh.. I don't really like Halo much, in fact it's one of my most hated games. It has amazing weapons and it has one of the best online multiplayers, but that's about it in my opinion. The levels are too liniar and the enemies are pretty boring, it also introduced regeneration and only having 2 weapons system. It's too overhyped and highly overrated. But even with it's flaws it's still one of the few games that acctually live up to older games. That's saying a lot.
@viliussmproductions Doom 3 was massively disappointing and I prefer to not acknowledge its existence unless I must. Half-Life 2 and Serious Sam were rare exceptions in a genre chock full of overly scripted games that rely too heavily on wanting to be Hollywood movies and give the player too little control and few if any reasons to play through them more than once.
@viliussmproductions Yeah I'd say I'm more picky than most folks. I guess I just expected more action from Doom 3 and less reading emails and PDAs. Too many predictable spawning enemies, too! I think the Resurrection of Evil, which introduced a gravity gun and the super shotgun, was a great game that was much more fun than vanilla Doom 3, but even then it wasn't quite what I wanted from a new Doom game. I hope the upcoming Doom 4 will be more action packed!
@Chubzdoomer yeah doom 4 will be an action game unlike doom 3 btw i actually enjoyed reading and listening to these pda's, but yes spawning is predictable in that game
attention classic gamers, we have a new threat besides codfags. They are battlefield fags. I met one and he said that games like doom, quake, goldeneye, wolfenstein, and half-life are shit compared to Battlefield 3. That was stupid and beyond insulting to the games that made FPS games what they are today. The faggot's name is YURMOM911.
it sucked getting clipped in the intro and crash landing before you could have done anything.... then realised... sht... thank goodness that happened! cause everyone else ended up in sht!
@stupidvid5229 @DoctorObviously I born in early 90's, was amazing came from the school, after play ball in the street and in the night, play Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, Hexen, Heretic, Carmaggedon in PC or in SNES play Super Mario. Lovely times, wish them come back
The Quake series is unusual, Q1s story is completely unrelated to Q2,3 or 4, and Q3 was just multiplayer, if they make plan to make another then it should be a reboot focusing on the Strogg.
@DG6985 No fucking way should it be focuse on the Strogg. We have Q2, Q4 and Enemy Territory Quake wars about them already. Q1 universe is far more thrilling and mysterious
@TheBIOPRINCE *facepalm* It may seem similar to DooM but its not a bad imitation. We got zombie soldiers in doom and psycho soldiers and quake 1, basically thats it. In Doom we travel through mars bases and cyberhell all the time. In quake 1 military bases are only in prologue levels and the rest of the game is set in vaious medievil and strange settings. Also monsters in doom are hellspawns and in q1 they are lovecraftian creatures from another dimensions.
The 90's were the golden age of FPS's DOOM, Wolfenstein 3d, quake, Deus ex, and a whole lot of others. Today's FPS's are shit. I wish I was born earlier sigh....
@DoctorObviously how about Quake Live ? Battlefield 3 ? If we actually look at the FPS's now, they are going in good direction. I hope they will not screw that.
@stupidvid5229 Halo IMO is the only one that I think lives up to the older games, because it's a sci-fi shooter, good story, powerful weapons, etc. Other than that franchise, ya, every other shooter such as cod, battlefield, medal of honor, can just suck a dick, No wonder sci-fi shooters are always better than pathetic generic shooters, because they allow you to do things that you couldn't do in real life.
@xoorootoo It seems so, but hopefully game developers get back on track and start to make shooters like this instead of mediocre shooters like Cod or Halo.
Quake always was the best FPS ever made. Everything that came afterword, and continues to be produced to this day, only aspires to have a following of fans like Quake did.
@xbox50000 System Shock 2 IMHO is the best most detailed FPS....it required thinking.....these days its just camping n shit..hiding like a pussy and blasting your enemy when they run past...
@xbox50000 Deus Ex and System Shock 2 had FPS mechanics, but were not straight shooters..... rpg, extensive dialog, story elements, as well as RPG character building...... I think its not quite the same as the old school ID shooters.
Brings back memories of running out of ammo when you come face to face with elite strogg. Just you and your side-arm. That game required talent, but games now are all about head shots, and quick scoping.
@10TheTop10Lists10 Halo is the only game right now that doesn't revolve around the whole quickscoping shit from what I've seen. Even though I have tons of weapons to choose from, sometimes I just wish Bungie would just let you use your fists when you are out of ammo or if you don't even have a weapon, like in the Marathon games and in this.
@10TheTop10Lists10 Even quck scoping was good back in the days. In Half-Life Deathmatch it was really frustrating for your enemy to fire a well-aimed crossbow shot in the middle of an intense gunfight. Nowadays it's just cheap aimbot.
