hopefully it can get better specific impulse than the old NERVA rockets. I perosnally favor fission-fragment based design, just make sure to power that thing as far away from earth as possible.
Ya BUT, "what would happen, IF, it went the way of the cargo ship"??? Anyways, I think NASA & ESA have been playing you Russians all along!! IF, you know WHERE to look, you can find all the life you want, "right here on Google Earth 6", & save millions, while you're at it...!!
I think nuclear is the far more realistic way to get to Mars, and beyond, than Elon Musk's economy of scale model. An idea that might've of worked back in the naive days of the internet boom when investors were less interested in profit than share growth but in these more austere times who is going to be so forward looking? Though, if Elon Musk can get enough hype going, you never know.
Venus is a much better prospect for terraforming than tiny Mars. Venus has the same gravity as Earth and everything you need in its atmosphere, except for the hydrogen. You just need to shield Venus from the sun, mine Jupiter for the hydrogen you’d dump onto the planet to create the oceans and put a solar mirror in a 24 hour polar orbit to simulate the sunlight and day lengths you’d get on Earth. Then, if you were standing on the surface of Venus you’d think you were somewhere on Earth.

@RebelManCam its pety human relationships that holds us as a race back, we spend trillions of dollars/pounds/whatever on nucleur warheads and other advances miltary weapons that if used, with just destroy the planet, the human race has existed for thousands of years, why we are still dying of disease, poverty, hunger etc is just a joke, its about time people take a step back and realise that what we are doing is wrong, destroying the planet, letting people die, racism, facism, prejudice, and all-

@lightfdar It's more likely to be a nuclear-powered electric rocket. The engine will likely be ion or magnetohydrodynamic, but using a nuclear reactor as a power source.
@PureForloko The space ship we,re on is just fine if we could only treat others with the same respect we want in return ,besides mars is a shit hole earth is a paradise just the way it is ,just let,s reduce the population slowly so we will pollute less and we have it made ,we,re never gonna find a better place than this.
@FrankaDith I mean our ships r OK its not like we can leave our galaxy or anything and ya but i dont think we can ever stop polluting i mean unless we come up with another fuel source we cant ever stop using cars (which we can use hemp and is alot less polluting but people r 2 corrupt) and with the technology we can have we can make mars into a paradise hopefully we will so we dont completely destory our paradise planet earth
@PureForloko Just that Mars is cold ,no magnetic field to protect from the radiation, little water, toxic atmosphere ,but on the other hand the days are much like earth ,we can have a handful of people in case Earth meets a catastrophe, and it would be nice to find life and put all those creationist freaks to shame and maybe find lots of mineral rare here on Earth ,its a dream but i still say we need to reduce the number of people on this rock we eat to damn much ,fish is goin away.
once u get control of ur town the rest will be history and the federal goverment and the president are as federal as fed express and we have no choice who goes in those position controll they are and tenth admendment nulifacation will fix the problem of the feds coming in get ur local police and swat because its going to be a fight if the goverment trys to come and take my fresh milk veggies that our community grows to stay away from goverment they have no control over over us
FINALLY. this has been a long time in coming. the u.s. is lagging and will be embarrased by russians getting humans to mars first.
nuclear powered engines are NOT revolutionary, they are old, decades old and far superior in performance to chemical engines.. idiots on tv know nothing.
As much as I love NTRs (Nuclear Thermal Rockets), I'm afraid they may be a pipe dream. The US is pushing almost 19 billion into NASA, whereas Russia has barely 4 billion backing it. Russia is spouting a lot of pretty words with this statement, but NASA has the right idea in it's investment choices. In the end, NASA gets the job done.
We all want heroic astronauts and cosmonauts, but the future is in unmanned probes.
@EdouardDubois Do not forget that NASA is now paying the money for the delivery of Russian goods, and U.S. astronauts in space ... So that the Russian Space agentsva more money than you think : P U.S. lost the space race ;)
While we may lose the ability to send humans into space, that's not necessarily a bad thing. A probe can get the same job done, more quickly, for cheaper, and with no risk to human life. Just the fact that a probe doesn't need to return to Earth can make the mission tremendously easier to organize.
I'm not saying we should de-orbit the ISS just yet, but it's good that NASA is shifting it's priorities away from manned space travel.
I think Russian cosmonauts are more bold and likely to risk their lifes when it is about using new technologies in a widely uninvestigated field like spaceflight.
russia makes me laugh, there people are starving and the cars they drive are from the 1940s, tiny uk is richer than russia, so what am trying to say is (russia aint going anywhere)
@isuckaman Well, that was funny. Esspecially when you are talking about space technology. Do you know the core of ISS is actually Mir-2(zarya and zvezda modules) and is designed built and launched by Russians?. Or half of the ISS belongs to Russians rest belongs to other countries? Or most of the resupply/crew transfer is made solely by Russians? I am not Russian, but Russians are well ahead of any country when it comes to space technology, Im sorry
@prjerry7 They are carrying every single astronout into space RIGHT NOW, and NASA has no ability to do so, and is paying Russians for it, RIGHT NOW. If you are more impressed with sending a 2.5 meter sattelite to collect rock samples, you are free to do so. By the way, the launch vehicle of DAWN, the Delta II rocket is also decommissioned, 3 more rockets remaining and no more will be built. So you will have to pay Russians even more if you are going to launch anything into space at all.
Russias launch rocket, Soyuz, has had massive failures throughout its history. Soyuz recently had 2 failed launches in 1 week.
USA has compromised to use Soyuz to tie relationships between Washington & Russia, also to launch cheaper [shuttle is EXPENSIVE].
Soyuz recent crashes have made NASA uncomfortable & soon USA Spacex f9 rocket will launch our astronauts [f9 beat soyuz in a competition held by NASA].
@prjerry7 There is a difference between failure of soyuz missile, and failure in the payload it carries. Soyuz capsules only failed twice, killing 4, Last one in 1971. Compare that to shuttle, out of 5 shuttles, 2 end up exploding in the air, killing 7 EACH. Thats was the history. Now, excluding falcon series of SpaceX and Delta IV, every single new built rocket in US or EU uses RD-180 or NK-33 engines of Russia. NASA is writing history but so does the Russians by giving the engines US need.
@prjerry7 And soon blah blah it will beat russians blah blah! aka. fanboy.. US companies licenced Russian engines because they were better. Shuttle was expensive, but it was decommisionned only because it killed 14 astranauts. Soyuz didnt fail in last 40 years and you still think of relationships etc etc. ISS is currently 50+% Russian station with only Russians have means to control, man and deorbit it, and yet you still claim NASA is making history etc. With so much bias why should I debate?
a; not true, it had high cost 10 years ago and they were using it happily.
b; soyuz only failed in first 7K variant last in 1971. It hasnt failed since.
c; Utter bullshit soyuz doesnt have such mechanism. You make claims out of your ass. Soyuz only returns its reentry capsule back, its designed so. Its the shuttle which needs hi-res photos to be taken everytime it goes up. Shuttle ALWAYS return with ceramic tiles lost and cracks in structure etc etc.
@prjerry7 And again we have a problem with BIAS. When Russians buy airliners, you claim they do so b/c they are imcompetent they cant do it they fail blah blah. When US buys or uses Russian rockets or other equipment, you say its because of politics, not needed etc. The fact is, Russia can only design equipment that works with least cost. They cant build a luxury airliner like west (or anything luxurious for that matter) so they buy it. US cant design oxygen-rich rocket engine so they buy it.
@AndraxxusNephilem US can't produce an oxygen rich rocket engine? I suggest you look into the F9 project in california.
Soyuz & shuttle have had the same statistic on crew loss at around 2%, out of 135 launches shuttle has only had 2 failures. Soyuz rocket have a long history but on average, out of 107 launches theiv had 5 failures.
Just a month ago in 1 week Russia has had as many soyuz rocket failures as shuttle in its 30 year history [in 1 week!]
@prjerry7 Merlin engine is still under development yet it has worse T/W ratio and mere 3 seconds beter specific impulse than NK-33 developed in 1960s. It means, yes US cant design it.
I say soyuz spacecraft failed only twice you say no it failed 5 times blah blah. If you are counting other Soyuz *rocket* failures, there were 824 launches in Soviet + Russian era combined, so add them to your % calculation. Also you should add 335 proton launches which does the lift heavy lift job of Shuttle.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Americans need to stop Russian before they go to Mars. We need to bomb there space project, they are going against almighty God. God did not want us to touch hes other planets, God hates Russia. I will do everything to keep humans on earth and i am gonna protest against space travel, we have already made god very angry by going to moon, no wonder why we have so many catastrophe events on Earth, kill these people who are against the peaceful almighty god. Allah Akbar.
@90talisten Man seriously .That's what religion does to people . Like it or not in the next 50 yrs humans will colonize moon and other planets .Keep believing your fairy tales .lol........
I am willing to bet that by 2030 there will be no such thing as religion .
@tim555ism yeah there will. There will be a world leader who will say he is god, that is why the present process of putting all religions in one box is happening. The world leader then will dump them. Like the line says, "there can only be one"
@90talisten no i think god hates you. god hates you because you read a book written 100's of years after so called events took place. he hates you because you get ideas like god hates Russia from this said book. if there is a god (and i highly doubt there is or if there is he is a sick fuck who gets off on selling your daughter for sex Exodus 21:7) he is pissed off at the fact that u have joined a cult instead of reading from his true bible Nature. Science has answers and has a method as well.
@90talisten hm, odd. "God" wants humans to be happy. exploring the universe make us happy cause when we find life form or something new it lets us know we are excelling. next, God hates russia. if god existed why would he make russians?, and Lastly, Kill who are against the PEACEFUL almight god? yes very peace ful. -sarcasm- so why not be peaceful like "god"? hm? it's like saying "I'm against eating meat." then going home to have chicken soup.
@90talisten dude, your so fucking stupid... look at my username.. darkPRINCESS... so im a girl, a teenage girl to be more precise. i am not jewish, i am a Jashinist, or a follower of Lord Wicked Heart/Lord Dark Heart, so overall, i follow a god of death and destruction. Yes, "god", did create earth or whatever, but he didn't have rules about us STAYING here. we can move from place to place. it like our mom telling us to stay home our whole like an never leaving.
lol RT news is so full of it. sad they half to lie about Space exploration too. Russia hasn't even started working on there new rocket yet... and their having trouble hiring people because they don't pay enough like banks or other Companies.
Now all Western world will think that Russian again want on them a misfortune. Their government again brains will wash out and incite against Russian. To Russian it is not necessary neither war nor race of arms!
Well is been 2 years sooo

PureForloko 6 months ago
@PureForloko The space ship we,re on is just fine if we could only treat others with the same respect we want in return ,besides mars is a shit hole earth is a paradise just the way it is ,just let,s reduce the population slowly so we will pollute less and we have it made ,we,re never gonna find a better place than this.
FrankaDith 6 months ago
@FrankaDith I mean our ships r OK its not like we can leave our galaxy or anything and ya but i dont think we can ever stop polluting i mean unless we come up with another fuel source we cant ever stop using cars (which we can use hemp and is alot less polluting but people r 2 corrupt) and with the technology we can have we can make mars into a paradise hopefully we will so we dont completely destory our paradise planet earth
PureForloko 6 months ago
@PureForloko Just that Mars is cold ,no magnetic field to protect from the radiation, little water, toxic atmosphere ,but on the other hand the days are much like earth ,we can have a handful of people in case Earth meets a catastrophe, and it would be nice to find life and put all those creationist freaks to shame and maybe find lots of mineral rare here on Earth ,its a dream but i still say we need to reduce the number of people on this rock we eat to damn much ,fish is goin away.

nuclear powered engines are NOT revolutionary, they are old, decades old and far superior in performance to chemical engines.. idiots on tv know nothing.

EdouardDubois 8 months ago
@EdouardDubois Do not forget that NASA is now paying the money for the delivery of Russian goods, and U.S. astronauts in space ... So that the Russian Space agentsva more money than you think : P U.S. lost the space race ;)
Oleg111222333 7 months ago
@Oleg111222333
I disagree, respectfully.
EdouardDubois 7 months ago
Russia have better engineers and technicians.
A weapon that cost 1000 £ in Russia cost 12000£ to make in the US.
Fridaey13txhOktober 3 months ago
I think Russian cosmonauts are more bold and likely to risk their lifes when it is about using new technologies in a widely uninvestigated field like spaceflight.

Perokneznik 9 months ago
I doubt the Russians can accomplish any scientific feat that a half a dozen other countries can't do better.
isuckaman 9 months ago
@isuckaman Well, that was funny. Esspecially when you are talking about space technology. Do you know the core of ISS is actually Mir-2(zarya and zvezda modules) and is designed built and launched by Russians?. Or half of the ISS belongs to Russians rest belongs to other countries? Or most of the resupply/crew transfer is made solely by Russians? I am not Russian, but Russians are well ahead of any country when it comes to space technology, Im sorry
AndraxxusNephilem 9 months ago 4
@AndraxxusNephilem thats ridiculous, USA DAWN program is doing history RIGHT NOW, Russians havent gone into the history book in the last 30 years.
prjerry7 5 months ago
@prjerry7 They are carrying every single astronout into space RIGHT NOW, and NASA has no ability to do so, and is paying Russians for it, RIGHT NOW. If you are more impressed with sending a 2.5 meter sattelite to collect rock samples, you are free to do so. By the way, the launch vehicle of DAWN, the Delta II rocket is also decommissioned, 3 more rockets remaining and no more will be built. So you will have to pay Russians even more if you are going to launch anything into space at all.
AndraxxusNephilem 5 months ago
@AndraxxusNephilem Here are some FACTS;
NASA is writing history with DAWN, Russia is NOT.
prjerry7 5 months ago
@prjerry7 There is a difference between failure of soyuz missile, and failure in the payload it carries. Soyuz capsules only failed twice, killing 4, Last one in 1971. Compare that to shuttle, out of 5 shuttles, 2 end up exploding in the air, killing 7 EACH. Thats was the history. Now, excluding falcon series of SpaceX and Delta IV, every single new built rocket in US or EU uses RD-180 or NK-33 engines of Russia. NASA is writing history but so does the Russians by giving the engines US need.
AndraxxusNephilem 5 months ago
@prjerry7 And soon blah blah it will beat russians blah blah! aka. fanboy.. US companies licenced Russian engines because they were better. Shuttle was expensive, but it was decommisionned only because it killed 14 astranauts. Soyuz didnt fail in last 40 years and you still think of relationships etc etc. ISS is currently 50+% Russian station with only Russians have means to control, man and deorbit it, and yet you still claim NASA is making history etc. With so much bias why should I debate?
AndraxxusNephilem 5 months ago
@AndraxxusNephilem your comments bullshit.
a; NASA decommissioned shuttle due to its high cost, not due to failures.
b; Soyuz & Shuttle have same amount of loss of crew, at around 2%.
c; Soyuz has had many more failed missions, Soyuz has only lost few crew [like shuttle] thanks to its capsule which ejects when failure.
d; Spacex f9 is going to replace Russian rockets in most of the world soon.
Even Russian aircraft are failing, Medvedev recently stated Russia will have 2 buy foreign airlines.
prjerry7 5 months ago
@prjerry7
a; not true, it had high cost 10 years ago and they were using it happily.
b; soyuz only failed in first 7K variant last in 1971. It hasnt failed since.
c; Utter bullshit soyuz doesnt have such mechanism. You make claims out of your ass. Soyuz only returns its reentry capsule back, its designed so. Its the shuttle which needs hi-res photos to be taken everytime it goes up. Shuttle ALWAYS return with ceramic tiles lost and cracks in structure etc etc.
d; ..says the US fanboy.
AndraxxusNephilem 5 months ago
@prjerry7 And again we have a problem with BIAS. When Russians buy airliners, you claim they do so b/c they are imcompetent they cant do it they fail blah blah. When US buys or uses Russian rockets or other equipment, you say its because of politics, not needed etc. The fact is, Russia can only design equipment that works with least cost. They cant build a luxury airliner like west (or anything luxurious for that matter) so they buy it. US cant design oxygen-rich rocket engine so they buy it.
AndraxxusNephilem 5 months ago
@AndraxxusNephilem US can't produce an oxygen rich rocket engine? I suggest you look into the F9 project in california.
Soyuz & shuttle have had the same statistic on crew loss at around 2%, out of 135 launches shuttle has only had 2 failures. Soyuz rocket have a long history but on average, out of 107 launches theiv had 5 failures.
Just a month ago in 1 week Russia has had as many soyuz rocket failures as shuttle in its 30 year history [in 1 week!]
prjerry7 5 months ago
@prjerry7 Merlin engine is still under development yet it has worse T/W ratio and mere 3 seconds beter specific impulse than NK-33 developed in 1960s. It means, yes US cant design it.
I say soyuz spacecraft failed only twice you say no it failed 5 times blah blah. If you are counting other Soyuz *rocket* failures, there were 824 launches in Soviet + Russian era combined, so add them to your % calculation. Also you should add 335 proton launches which does the lift heavy lift job of Shuttle.
