We have a 16 year old on our High School Powerlifting Team in PEI Canada who's made this weight raw at the 2011 IPF World Junior Powerlifting Championships in Moosejaw, Canada. Your gym has very strong athletes.
Awesome squat. Coach, isn't it better to look straight than to look at the ceiling while squatting? Not trying to disrespect but I was taught it is always better to keep your eyes parallel while squatting, especially for training athletes.
It looks like when you're in the eccentric portion of the squat you are almost pre-loading your muscles kind of like plyometrics with the stretch-shortening reflex... would you say that is a correct statement?
just stay on heels , back locked , and use the spring effect that u get by going this low . bare foot is better than soft heels shoes , and weightlifting shoes is ideal
Do you guys do any mobility drills or anything to help get down that low? It's mind-boggling depth from everyone in your gym, but I've been seriously working on my flexibility for months and I can't get much below parallel.
broz how can i squat so deep as this guy?will my weightlifting shoes i ordered help me?i just wanna touch my butt to the ground but i cant.of course im lower than parrallell but whatever.do u think it is a weight issue??
@kwstas67 What i did was bottom out the smith machine for a while till i was able to get that low and keep balance, then from there just do the bar and move on up! As for the vid, respect!
I've also recently been feeling some strain in my lower back when I go ATG. I started a linear progression 3 weeks ago and yesterday I did my first "3 sets of 5" at 100kg (high bar ATG). Even though I can maintain my low back position fairly below parallel, ATG always causes a little pelvis rollunder. I genuinely think it can all be attributed to my diet, how often I sit down on hard chairs every day, and the fact that my abdomen is so damn weak.
Amazing videos. Quick question about foot position. Do you have a preference with your lifters as regards to having their toes pointing straight ahead, or turned out slightly to the side? And why so? Thanks.
Question: Why, when I do these, are they so strenuous on my low back? I used to do low-bar squats, but switched to these. Am I not placing the bar right on my back?
Can you elaborate on "positions" being incorrect? I tried taking a video, and I am definitely leaning forward a lot and am not nearly as vertical as Rob is in this video. I put the bar right on top of my traps at the base of my neck (but not on the vertebrae).
You're the best Broz. Truly inspirational. I wish I could train with you, but live all the way on the east coast. Maybe you could make instructional videos!
@Sully1111 take a vidoecamera n practice form.to do this suqat u must be extremely flexible.did u see this he touches the floor with hes a**.so maybe u need flexibility work too.these guys squat every day
@Sully1111 Look straight up at the ceiling like this guy did. If you looking up your body naturally want to go straight back up after you squat down. This eliminates any forward leaning and will probably stop the strain on your lower back.
@LegendAzN1 I think I fixed the problem actually. I had the bar too high on my traps (it was pretty much sitting on my neck, but not really because I flexed my traps up to have it sit on that). I believe that this made the bar too far forward and created a much bigger lever arm with my low back than should be.
Hey man..very impressive notice that you put on a lot size from this video to the video where you squat 800 lbs...do you take any supplements in your diet?
@BROZKNOWS haha wow..was so amazed and intrigued on the weight being lifted..I didn't notice to read the description..lol Are you one of the two lifters or just the uploader?
for a sprinter/wrestler in the offseason, what would you recommend more, squats or cleans? right now I'm doing 5x5 squats but i feel like there are more effective routines for strength and power. there's so much misconstrued info out there I really just don't know the volume and intensity i should be doing.
if only girls could appreciate this as much as true men do youd be a fuckin superstar. fuck abs, squats and deadlift. i dont wanna know what you can deadlift.
I started doing olympic style squats about a month ago but had to quit because of lower back pain (which I later discovered was due to butt-wink). I've had to revert back to parallel squats until I find a way to get that damn wink out of my o-squat technique. Since I train myself that might take a while (if ever). Wish I had a coach like you! :(
@MaelstromScientist dude, you do realize that this is a 2.5+ bw high bar oly squat. None of that low bar parallel bullshit you see toted as the god's honest truth nowadays. Make no mistake, this here is a lift that your average gymgoer will never achieve.
How can an athlete keep a near vertical torso while squatting? I feel I have body leaning forward issues while I'm squatting and I wish to correct this.
Practice a lot. I still haven't got it, but I can do the majority of my sets with a near vertical torso, simply because I work on it a lot. Once you can get a straight back with a warm-up set, it's just a matter of being strong enough to apply the same technique to your work sets.
Pushing my elbows forward and trying to wrap my neck around the bar helps a lot.
@MrLmfao1989 I'm sure many experienced lifters will agree that spotting would be the last thing you would do. It's a hell of a lot more safer to learn how to bail out of a lift 'correctly'. If you haven't already learnt, then do so!
Question, I see this dude squat with his face looking up, and I've seen Pat do it looking down or I guess... neutral head.. .which is better?? Would this sort of strain your neck? BTW AMAZING VIDS keep more coming please
@BROZKNOWS hey , you GET DEEEEEEEEP holy fuck. awesome mobility. however, i feel you should try to come down slower. you have this crazy decent into the squat and it seems like your using that slight bounce at the bottom to get some leverage to help you back up. now dont take it the wrong way. im not onw of those ppl who thinks the full squat will ruin your knees. its how the body is designed. but righteous weitherway holy tits.
@ridethepowder156 Yeah, because "coming down slower" really helps an olympic lifter. I'm sure his snatch will go through the roof taking a slow negative.
anybody who can deep squat this kind of weight is bad ass. Everytime I see pyssys in my gym doing barerly parallel squat and repping 405 I have to laugh. None of them can get their ass up on full squat with 225.
Actually, I'm a beginner lifter, just hit a 265 Olympic style squat and my PR in a power style squat was at 295. I'd say they can get their asses up on a full squat with 225
Your squats are awsome, i try to squat as deep as possible to, but i have one question about your decendspeed: Is it really good in the long run for your knees to squat down so fast?
Damn at 19 years. I really hope you guys are gonna compete in some kind of olympic power lifting comp. Other wise that would be a waste of talent. Keep up the good work guys. I wish i was at your gym cause you guys would motivate my ass to lift up the world.
@koenbp I'm really sorry! All show and no go. But seriously, I can't believe you would admit that you are that weak. Personally I would kill myself if I couldn't squat body weight.
@slimjamie1991 i agree, but to be satisfied because you are "more muscular" but as weak as a 70yr old woman, then who really cares. Personally I would rather have 13" thighs, weigh 50kg and squat 400kg.
@BROZKNOWS thanks for clarifying. I thought you were just ripping on guys who aren't brutally strong, so I kind of took offense since I'm new to the iron game. I also agree that strength is more important than size (or at least more desirable).
