@powerstroketexas homemade a good one will cost about $500. $100 for motor (6.5 hp from habor a frieght), $100 for metal (if you buy recycle aluminum), $200 for a torque converter (a must for deep water starts) and $100 for line. That will cost you 2500 retail, but you could build it yourself like we did. check out our videos.

Basketballis, I have the same problem as you do. If you don't want to pay for a winch (like me), get into kiting. Kiting can be done on land, snow, water, making it an all year sport.

The winch used was homemade by the guys in the video and cost under $500AU. for a commercial winch such as "Urban Rider" your looking at around $2000-$3000 or so. As for noise its comparable to a go-cart engine.
