I remember reading an interview about the Comedy album many years ago - Ieven had it pinned to my room wall at uni. When asked where the name Comedy came from he replied that if it happened to someone else he would find it funny.
There are certain muscians that have stuck with me over the last 25 years - James, Lloyd Cole and Black. They are all going strong! Thankfully. I find this music to be my safety valve.
The worst thing that happened to him was to be semi successful, Since then he's been on the outside looking in, Which has made him put down desperate inner feelings, in the mane stream of life you suck these feeling up and carry on this man is caged not necessary sad just desperate,
Iv fond that if life deals you a bad hand its just how you play it, On saying that, when you put your head on the pillow at the end of the day if you haven't got a woman sleeping peacefully next to you and your children sleeling or doing well in life you've got nothing i repeat you've got nothing,
this is the secret of life pity he hasn't fond this its not rocked science, one deep song on an album is good shows you have emotion which will buy you respect for people to listen to the rest of your lite hearted songs after two albums your finished they move on out of boredom and so must you
he reached for the stars and almost got one but fell and came down with a big bump he kept on trying to get that star but sacrificed the people around him in other words some people can not see the woods for the trees, so on with lifes home values the rest is just a hobby he's a lost soul with most of himself to blame you can see it in his eyes sad but true?
"Bittersweet melancholy with a darkness" = perfectly put. It was excactly those elements of your music that drew my attention from all the 80ies plastic-pap I had to endure throughout my teens. Songs like Wonderful Life reverberated within me my own melacholic mindset but they also seemed to give me a comforting hug. It still does. Wonderful. Thank you Colin.
just great! personally I've been following from switzerland colin & and his music since HEY PRESTO but I still didn't manage to see him live - but hope never dies ;-) I like or love almost all songs colin wrote (exceptions are the too harmonica songs) and of course the personal favorite changes from time to time! I wish you all the best for the future & really hope that you still will write many records, perhaps this whole internet thing just happens right on time for an artist like you! cheers
What a beautiful little snippet of Colin's world, thanks so much for sharing it, it only goes to confirm what I've always suspected, that Black is one of England's most underrated musical treasures. Here's hoping that more people will work that out too, as a result of this video.
All the best, and as always, looking forward to more musical gems from you! Don't waste that "saving grace"!! (Robin Millar's words, not mine!!)
