  • aircraft carrier are only to invade other countries...Battleships will never be exceeded by any other ship...just remember how many ships were lost againts Bismark and not veen then its was sunk...long live to the sea masters

  • You see these ships in the water in wwII footage, all weighted down....

The epidomy of bad ass....just awesome display hurt.

  • sucks the Aircraft Carrier was the death of the battleship

  • 0:18 that guy gesticulates with his hands like a boss

  • damn I wish the RN still had battleships!

  • these big ass gun are museum now, but still avaible in 30 day just incase

  • These videos are so sad..... I was never on any vessels but it is truly sad to see them cover up for good. :(

  • damn, thats a whole lotta boom behind that shell, whats the most powder they can put into the guns without the barrel goin off like huge bomb?

  • On Wisconsin!!

  • @RoqueAshaman:

You'll have to understand that battles lasted for days if not weeks sometimes.

For example, on D-Day they first needed to get the men across the channel, then the day before they send paratroopers to neutralize AA for bombers that destroyed reinforced positions and Anti-Ship cannons so the ships could fire at the coast before even sending the soldiers in to capture everything

(which takes days to do so)

  • Really makes me wish they had HD video and audio back then! :(

  • It's amazing that they are firing the equivalent of a VW Beetle 26 miles! My dad was on the Wisconsin and I loved looking though his cruise book as a kid. I was really honored to be a part of the recommissioning in '89.

  • It simply saddens me that we don't have any battleships in service anymore, am i correct? They just have such a good presence of naval and national power and seem to be good in ground support and conventional fights, just gotta add a good railgun to them.

  • absolutely beautiful

  • Wat are those Bags for? are they the explosive power that propell the round? or is it sand bag to protect the explosion from the round

  • @quangluu96 they are filled with propellant, similar to gun powder

  • Someone knows what music it is? Sounds awesome seriously, like oldschool video game OST

  • in my opinion they should have fired them ALL at the same time :)

  • that music is from power rangers? XD

  • You want to ram that powder real easy, so says Segal.

  • 戦艦の主砲はやはり巨大だ

  • the load & fire rate is alot quicker then the video shows its more instructional then actual & the old analog computers onboard the iowa class could not be improved apon since most of the time it would put round 1 on target.the gyroscopic systems of the guns are state of the are , same reason the m1 abrams can shoot on the move

  • Damn shame we'll never see this sight again. Thanks for this go to the idiots in the US Government who apparently forget our troops need this kind of fire support. Missile strikes are all well and good, but nothing beats a salvo of these monsters!

  • @ijnfleetadmiral amen brother. this is a throwback to the days when warfare was determined by skill and not so much who has the better technology. r.i.p. battleships we shall miss you

  • @ijnfleetadmiral Battleships are simply obsolete. You'd get the same effect from a cruise missile, only more accurate.

  • @CommandoDude Tomahawks and other missiles are very accurate, very effective, and have a longer reach- but don't forget that fire support a la cruise missile is muuuuch more expensive per shot than these 16 in. guns

  • @socodude22 Not really. The cost of maintaining those battleships far exceeds the cost of manufacturing cruise missiles.

  • groovy jazz music for reloading a battleships gun lmao.

  • @ DrKarot7760, she was firing for the last time because they retired the old bitch (said with love) shortly after this time.

@ RogueAshaman A fight between a battleship and other ships would not have taken very long at all. Most any ship, after a couple of direct hits from a 16" and it's abandon ship time.

  • To answer some questions. The general rule as I recall was, you could be on deck while firing, you were allowed to be aft of turret 3 if they were firing 1 or 2, you were allowed to be forward of turret 1 if they were firing turret 3. If they were firing all turrets, you were generall not supposed to be on deck. Also, you were expected to wear double hearing protection, the little foam insert plus the big muff style things. This was obviously not always followed.

  • The cheesy old school music in the beginning is the best part!

  • 16インチ砲・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・

    恐るべき破壊力・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・!

  • Why was she firing for the last time, I don't get ;(

  • LOL I can't Believe anyone would be on deck when them monsters go off!! Salute to our Troops on Veterans Day!!

  • こうやって16インチ砲弾装填するんですね・・・

  • y da hell the gun crew wearing those middle age like helnets :)

  • @gathersteel Protection from flashback, same thing firefighters wear under there helmets

  • Sweet :)

  • wish i knew the name of the song....

  • i wonder how do they clean the carbon off those big guns.... crawl thru and clean it?

  • what a beautiful piece of iron. Its heart breaking that she's mothballed :(

  • They should of fired off these guns on the 4th of July.

  • What was the rate of fire with these? It seems like a fight would take a long time.

  • @RogueAshaman I think for a well-trained crew during WWII, twice a minute per gun was the rate of fire, so 18 rounds a minute from the 9 sixteen-inchers in total per ship.

  • @dennilfloss Wow. That would be terrifying

  • @RogueAshaman

The "fight" won't take long at all when the guns hit the target. It's hard to comprehend how much destruction those 16 inch rounds can cause.

BTW, average muzzle velocity of these guns is 2500 feet per second when firing armor-piercing rounds with a full (660 pound) propellant charge. Effective range is nearly 24 miles.

  • @RogueAshaman At best 2 rounds a minute. We always had to wait on the FC's

  • @RogueAshaman It would, but it would end very quickly once the projectile made it's target +/- 500 meters.

  • @RogueAshaman You have no idea some battles in WW2 lasted more than 9 hours.

  • @RogueAshaman Yeah one hit long lol

  • Love the smoke rings blown out after each salvo! Can't imagine how loud those things are in person and the people filming...geez! And I thought the S&W 500mag had some flames!! Wonder what the Yamato would have been like if she'd survived with those "16" specials" (read 18") as the Japanese called them. Saw the projectiles in Yokusaka, Japan while in port there. Wonder what it must have been like back in the day when those things were being used against each other...war is terrible.

  • If you gave me the choice of firing one of these guns or sleeping with a supermodel, I'd have to sit down and think it over...

  • if its a US ship why there are muslin women working on that ship?

  • @galaxytroll it's uniform i suppose.

  • @galaxytroll where man?

  • wat ever happened to battleships

  • @nyanjoss They were redered use less by new weapons, after WW2 the carrier was king

  • Badass looking but rather useless ships...

  • My Dad was on this ship during the Korean War. His 83rd birthday is tomorrow :)

  • @hhfan5 Happy Birthday to your dad! :)

  • @hhfan5 thats some cool shit

  • @kopellhinex - so do you have an alternative which actually works?

  • @hhfan5

Happy belated birthday to your dad! His generation did a great job serving their country.

  • Amazing footage! Brings back memories. Got my cover and shirt about blown off from the report. I was on the flight deck of the Enterprise, Wisconsin astern about 300 yards when she let go. When the shock wave arrived, well I was just in AWE. I am proud to say I served.

  • And God Said Fear a US BattleShip

  • Where can I buy this?

  • Are the barrels rifled or smoothbore?

  • @lilbromarky1 Rifled, of course.

  • It's going slow because its a test. An actual mission would go much faster.

  • wow

  • They start firing at 1:28

  • @ThePitofSidLord - Who cares when they start firing?

  • @JohnQuincyAdams1 The video is entitled 'USS Wisconsin Battleship 16in GUNFIRE', so I'm assuming everyone who search for battleships firing.

  • @ThePitofSidLord - Obviously. But again, who cares when they start firing? There is much more to see and learn in life than just seconds long segments of video's, as opposed to watching the entire video.

  • @JohnQuincyAdams1 'the fuck did we start talking about life? Seriously, get over yourself. People look up a video of a battleship firing - it means they want to see a battleship firing. Not all of us can stare at the side of a battleship for a minute or so and stay entertained, waiting for it. Some of us just want to see the kaboom.

You're reading waaaaay too much into this.

  • @ThePitofSidLord - Son, for starters the childish, vulgar verbal vomit language is not appreciated by anyone. If anyone needs to, "get over", themselves that'd be you. You kids these days want everything right *now* with no waiting and you complain if a video is longer than 5 minutes. How in the world do you people get through an actual movie or, (gasp), a book? Remember those?

  • @JohnQuincyAdams1 Again, you're reading way to much into this, and if the word fuck is too much for you to handle, you might want to hop off of the internet and grow a thick skin.

And you're right. People do want things right now. The thing with that is, we want things when we want them. We can't want things now when we don't want them, can we? Get over yourself, dude - you're coming off as an arrogant, condescending ass.

  • Those sailors are slow as hell. FAIL

  • How the hell are they not all deaf?

  • 38 People couldn't handle the Iowa Class.

  • Holy Crap

  • do they really take that long to load that gun? lol

  • @ihaterabbits127 imagine how heavy the shell casings would be, and disposing of them would be a pain, with the bagged charges it all burns up no muss no fuss

  • they say the Ticonderogas are enough to replace the BBs ??? im sorry antiship missles can be shot down by ship missile defenses, try shooting down a 16" shell

  • @sssarsss They are, and even their value is in question these days. It's true you can't shoot down a 16" shell, but an enemy ship armed with guns would be very unlikely to get those weapons within range of enemy. You *can* shoot down an anti ship missile, but it's very hard to do and interception is never a gaurantee.

  • @sssarsss Nope uss stark hit by aerospatiale a am 39 exocet missiles and this ship had all technology on board for missiles and they never saw it coming Its captain was forced to retire capt Brindel AND destroyer Eilat sunk by 4 styx ascm missiles shells have range of 20 to 25 miles missiles much further sorry

  • why they dont bring these ships back is ridiculous, the shock value is bar none ! these used to pound N.Vietnam until they were protested by N.Vietnam due to the horrendous effects of them, and N.Vietnam got their wish and the battleships were no longer used in the conflict

  • @ihaterabbits127

Because different rounds are available (High Explosive, Armour Piercing, Starshell, Flak, Nuclear) and it's far more flexible to have the cordite separate. Plus having a casing that big (a multiple thousand pound shell plus six bags of cordite) would be very awkward to handle plus extremely dangerous. When cordite it bashed around it really goes with a bang, see what happened to HMS Barham when she capsized.

  • i dont think the battleships should have been taken out of commision. overload them with ASW and AM defences, to castrate the enemies' high end weaponry, and those guns would would have just as much of a punch today as when they were made. Hell, modern ships are designed to resist missile damage.A direct hit from a 16in conventional round would peel open a modern cruiser like a banana. If it felt anything, and doesn't go through it like a paper bag

  • My Father was a CPO in the Navy during WW11. He received the Silver Star, Two Bronze stars, The Purple Heart,(with three clusters.) And so many damn ribbons that he looked like an Admiral. I was able to to see the Mighty Mo below decks, and the foward turret as a courtesy to my fathers service. This was back in the 1970's. I've never seen 16 inch above deck armor before, but, slap a hand as hard as you can on it, and it will confirm our Boys' confidence.....>:)

  • I would not want top be on the receiving end of those rounds. Amazing firepower

  • Why are we wasting money on JDAMs and missiles already?

  • I wonder what those 16's register on the richter scale!

  • Battleships are awesome :D

  • chuck norris called... he wants his fishing boat back

  • 38 were on the receiving end of this.

  • US naval power at its finest

  • fucking show us the effect or explosions!

  • NGFS forever!!!

  • bringing the battleships back into commission was a gigantic waste of money.the only thing that made them effective was the missiles, which could have been fired from a destroyer at a greatly reduced cost.

  • @transport00001 yeah but at the time all the newer ships were worn far more than the old battleships they had mothballed it was a 100 dollar answer to a million dollar question at the time thats why they recommissioned them

  • @transport00001 yeah but at the time all the newer ships were worn far more than the old battleships they had mothballed it was a 100 dollar answer to a million dollar question at the time thats why they recommissioned them so they equiped them with missiles and modern radar and converted them to use marine diesel instead of fuel oil

  • @transport00001 Missiles don't have the same psychological effect... "firepower" mean anything?

It wasn't as big a waste as you'd think, we had the ships already, we had the ammunition just sitting around, we had existing personnel who could easily be retrained on larger guns than they were currently operating.... it was a good idea as long as youy have missions to support it.

If Afghanistan wasn't landlocked we might even still be using them now.

  • @batvette Libya

  • @tommysch I don't think so, as Libya is not a conflict where we are at war with a nation and its entire population where non precision munitions are called for. You DO recall the uproar about mistakenly hitting rebels and civilians?

  • I would really like to see the video of the impact of these shots....

  • Theres a reason we say "DONT FUCK WITH WISCONSIN!"

  • @DLBaird1 HELL YEA MILWAUKE WISCONSIN HERE!!!

  • @LtLethal1

Thats not gonna happen dude so calm down and go smoke ur weed some where else

  • I wonder if one day, all the technology we have in missiles and such will be useless and we have to resort back to the big guns of the 20th century. When aliens attack and use one giant emp and the world's technology gets clusterfucked.. we'll have these to rely on.

  • What is the stuff in the bags that they put in there after the shell?

  • @MrBreukuleis From various sources: The six silk powder bags are filled with reduced charges of D845 smokeless propellant. After WWII, Nitrated-Cellulose (NC) propellant was replaced by smokeless Powder Diphenylamine (SPD) , which burns cooler and therefore increases the barrel life. Barrel life was still increased later by the introduction of a titanium dioxide and wax compound called "Swedish Additive".

  • @dennilfloss Ok thanks! ;)

  • @dennilfloss wrong: from a navy vet: they are filled w/ real black powder

otherwise ther'd be a lot less smoke and the shot'sd loose 1/8 of their range

  • @joek0617 thank you for your service id like to join either the navy or the marines

  • @GFORCEpackattack i meant form a navy ve i know. i'm only 17, i'm barely old enough to enlist...

  • @joek0617 Wrong right back at you from another Navy vet. What was your rating? Cook? They stopped using blackpowder around the year 1900. Ever hear of cordite? That was used around 1880. Black powder! Bah!

  • @subfixerlee black powder burns MUCH faster, giving the shot greater velocity

  • @dennilfloss Wrong, It is the gun powder. That and that only.

  • @dirtbiker4lfe if you knew anything we dont label everything that lights on fire gun powder

  • @rlam67 If you were not such an idoit you would know that it IS gun powerd, Think before you type.

  • @dirtbiker4lfe Lul you criticize someone who actually knows what hes talking about. Theres more than 1 type of gunpowder. Powder Diphenlamine and D845 are both different types of gunpowder. If you think thats fucking saltpeter inside the barrel you are a dumbass.

  • @dennilfloss in other words its gunpowder

  • @dennilfloss was that smokeless?

  • @MrBreukuleis Those are the gun powder bags. The more bags, the father the shells goes and makes ruins some douchebag's day.....

  • @MrBreukuleis gunpowder.

  • @MrBreukuleis the propellant or gun powder about 600 pounds

  • @MrBreukuleis Dirty laundry.

  • @MrBreukuleis Dirty laundry, left-over Navy chow, a few Senior Chiefs.

  • @MrBreukuleis high velocity gunpowder or HVGP

  • @MrBreukuleis Aids virus and pig guts.

  • @MrBreukuleis gunpowder to fire 16 in it takes a shit load.

  • @MrBreukuleis Gunpowder

  • @MrBreukuleis

In other words, it's the stuff that makes the shell go when the gun is fired.

  • @MrBreukuleis its like gunpowder

  • Actually we are one of the most powerful Navies in the world! And we really dont need nine 16 inch guns( though it would kick ass) when we have Tomahawks and other cruise missles doubling or tripling the range! But we should bring back at least one Iowa Class because 1. They kick ass... 2. The enemys morale( and lives) will be crushed!!!

  • @HAWKEYEx306x Nowadays, battleships are obsolete. They used to be a symbol of a nation's naval power but because of better technologies like the Tomahawks and cruise missiles which can sink a battleship with ease, the aircraft carrier replaced them

  • the navy oceanic fleets suck today because we mothballed the battleships. BRING THE BATTLESHIPS BACK!!! you're already spending 3 gazillion dollars on tomahawks, isn't giant hunks of metal and TNT that can destroy all of Baghdad in three shots be better?

  • @PresidentDRCI a couple billion on one f22 raptor fighter jet or with that same money a bad ass battle ship or 2 im taking the ship with big guns and shear size of intimidation

  • @PresidentDRCI Nowadays, battleships are obsolete. They used to be a symbol of a nation's naval power but because of better technologies like the Tomahawks and cruise missiles which can sink a battleship with ease, the aircraft carrier replaced them

  • @dasupasin bull shit. the tomahawk is about as scary as a fly! the battleship would whoop a missle cruiser's ass! a 16 inch hunk of steel is much more intimidated especially with 9 coming at once and a huge explosion behind them and a ship right behind! the battleship is the queen of the sea! and will always be!

  • @PresidentDRCI Nope, not bullshit at all. It depends on what type of warhead the missile has. Some of them have a nuclear warhead while others have a shaped warhead designed to destroy the steel hull of the ships. Oh, and all types of naval ships carry tomahawks on them. That is why the carrier replaced them. Yes, it's scary to have a 16" projectile flying at you, but it isn't as scary as 40-50 jets carrying a payload of 5000lb laser guided bombs and anti-shipping missles

  • @dasupasin Bull-shit! the battleship is a monster, it's called the "pool-maker" for a reason!

  • @PresidentDRCI Yeah, ok.

  • WHY AMERICA IS FREE!!! there's a reason they are called the "pool-makers". fuck cruise missiles, there the pussies WMD.

  • imagine if a tank was armed with a gun that size

  • imagine if a tank was with a gun that size

  • awesome fire power imagine knowing that was coming straight at you

  • I think the music came from a Japanese video game.

  • Is the soundtrack on iTunes yet?

  • we miss you!

  • I served with the Fleet Marines, and NOTHING is as valuable in a shore landing as the accurate fire provided by the Iowa class battleships. With three ships designated as “museums,” the Iowa should be re-activated to serve in support of the Marines. With their high speed, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, remarkable armor, and Tomahawk cruise missiles, and pin-point accuracy of their 16 inch rifles, they are STILL one of the most powerful warships (after 65 years of service) in the world.

  • Look at the powder behind that shit

  • Regardless of their age our Battleships are an incredible show of force and project power as well as any aircraft carrier. I wish they didn't get shelved.

  • @crewchief1949

I was in third grade while you were fighting to ensure freedom for people all over the globe. Thank you. Three images have stuck in my mind since then. The MLRS batteries loosing hundreds of rockets. The sky over Baghdad lit up with anti aircraft fire, and these mighty guns. I'll keep those images all my life. Hooah!

  • why is it the last time?

  • @XtremeBordom NICE!!!

  • '

    wow hard work,,,

    why not use autoload,,,

i wish this big gun can use on american biggest tank same as MAUS tank

  • Comment removed

  • @Gauchoo1234 Tahts joke. The yammy was a floating tomb that never hurt a fly

  • Comment removed

  • Imagine waking up to that...

  • lol, i wonder if a person got a thrill sitting on the barrel while its being shot? probably, dammit, i wanna try that now xD

  • Good Video - very bad Music.

  • That is some SERIOUS ammount of TNT Powder. Jeeez!!!

  • i woudent mind seeing a battleship texas bb35 era ship shoot its main battery

  • 0:16 WTF are nuns doing loading the shells?

  • @HomemadeGameTrailers yea a paddle was not enuff to do the job

  • @HomemadeGameTrailers salvation army xDDD

  • i thought the guns in a turret all same at the same time?

  • @SurfAddict999 I think there's no benefir from firing the guns simultaneously. If the shells hit the target with a half second delay, so what?

But the combined recoil would be much greater and put a lot more stress on the turret mounting that increases the need for maintainance and replacing parts. And I think the sound waves of the blasts would add up, bewcomming one massive bang that does a lot more damage to the crews hearing than three "smaller" ones.
