If you're talking about the captain Uryuu fought, he was defeated and he barely escaped with his life. The only reason he survived was due to a special ability of his SS that turned him into a goo that could not be attacked or harmed in any way. Also the captain's name is Mayuri Kurotsuchi.

See the problem with the ending to the battle that I'm seeing is the fact that Ichigo's last attack is an upward diagonal slash... but his sword wound up in a straight downward slash position... Kenpachi is awesome, and in all honesty it wasn't really a win or lose fight in my opinion. If you look to later on, Kenpachi's fight with Nnoitra, it's obvious that if Kenpachi had given his all, Ichigo would have at the time lost. However, as someone said it was just a fight for fun and so nobody won or lost. Ichigo was down, Kenpachi's weapon was broken and he followed Ichigo down moments later.

I thought he never learn's his sword's name because he believes lending another's power to be weak. He probably could learn his swords name, but he would rather trust in his own spirit energy. You are correct, it is a real zanpakuto. Kenpachi's reiatsu drove it crazy. It is already in shikai, because of ti being forced byt the reiatsu, but Zaraki cannot use its abilities. You sometimes see a skull when Kenpachi fights, that's his zanpakuto's symbol.
