  • Hey, I was curious what chords you were doing during 1:30 - 1:48

  • Just saw RUSH @ Mohegan Sun!!

  • Dear Seveertrebor,

I know you might just glance at this, but i just want to say how much of a inspiration to me, whenever im thinking of a new rush song to learn i go to your videos to check it out. Honestly, why did you pick the songs you did, whats your favorite album, and have you ever seen them live? Lastly, how did you make it big on youtube, and do you even care? Thanks for reading, please respond.

    -Brent

  • Hi Brent and thanks for the kind words! Basically these are my favourite Rush songs and luckily they play most of them live, so I can see what AL is doing on the DVD's. Favourite albums S&A and Power Windows. As for my channel, I think they are just a hell of alot of wannabe AL's out there, so I guess people are trying to find out how to play this stuff!

  • hey do you think you can write out the tabs for this song? i really want to learn it but no one has the tabs. obviously you did a really good job so do you think you can try it? From one rush fan to another?

  • Sorry, dont do tab. Try getting the official tab book, thats a good start.

  • Ok thanks. thats ok. im not sure what the tab book is , but ive been just trying to do what you're doing(not as well) for the past few days. your video is actually helping me a lot

  • There is an official tab book for the S&A album, you will find it on Ebay. Its a good starting point, but dont take it as gospel. Glad this vid is helping you out.

  • OK thanks I'll look it up.

Man you're amazing. How do you get those solos down so well? It would take me forever to learn those by ear

  • .....its funny, but I dont rate my solos, cant seem to get any flow to them. I notice you are only 17, so you have loads of time to improve.....just keep practising, if its something you love doing then it will happen.....eventually! I turned 40 before I could play anything!

  • I really hope they make another album! I got 2 recently. Roll The Bones and Presto! =] Love this guitar intro to this song! ♥

  • Great to hear you are into Rush and working your way thru their albums, you have got loads to go at. They havent made a bad album and there is always a gem on each one.

  • yeah, S & A really is awesome. It's amazing that Rush is still writing awesome music and not just a bunch of filler like some of the other old band's new music.

  • Yeah, S&A is right out of the top draw

  • Bravest News First :D

is my fav off of S&A

  • Mmmmm......Bravest News First???? Good News First and Bravest Face, both good tracks.

  • XD i tried to edit but it wouldn't let me :[

i ahd to many comments bravest face aha uis my favorite

  • favorie song on S&A, grea job

  • cheers.....yeah my fav as well

  • I'm gonna be recording a song I made in this tuning man :D I hope you can watch it when you can

  • ...look forward to it, let me know when its up.

  • Dude this cover is great! MY 2nd favorite S&A song, my 1st being Far Cry :)

    Keep up the outstanding work!

  • cheers!!...my 2nd fav after The Larger Bowl....but i love the whole album.

  • I get so scared tuning my guitar to play this song, the sixth string is tuned up to a G and I feel like I'm going to snap it lol. So, sadly, I've forgotten some parts of the song.

  • ...yeah, its weird tuning.

  • nice job i love that opening riff sounds like a hendrix riff

  • nice job once again!

  • what is the tuning for this??

  • GGDGCE

  • Do you have the S&A tab book? It's really good; much better than Rush Complete.

What does this tuning get you? Easier open cords? I don't really get the alternate tuning thing. Shit, it's hard enough for me to keep up with two keys in standard tuning.

  • yeah, got the S&A tab book, its ok, but dont take it as gospel! Tuning is GGDGCE...alt tuning is a bit wierd, but saw an interview with AL and even he admits its all new to him, its just matter of experimenting to see what happens

  • Rush Complete was tabbed by a pianist, in my opinion. Impossible chords. At least S&A was tabbed by a guitarist.

I saw (bought) that interview/guitar lesson after I posted my comment. I was surprised he was so admittedly clueless on alt. tuning and tickled that he plays chord that he can't name. I wish they'd do an Anthem video lesson.

  • Alex doesn't get enough credit for his solos (as usual). Some of his solos come off as so chaotic and the timing uneven in the way one not follows another. The notes can follow each other like rocks tumbling down a hill. It must be a bitch to cover or duplicate them.

  • ....yeah, there is a lot of feel to his solos, you can see this when he plays live, as they are nver the same as the studio version.

  • i rly wanna learn the intro and the solo for this song!!!!!!! U r awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • intro is not too hard, couldnt really get to grips with the solo, as its quite understated.

  • rokcin'! do u have tabs fr this??????

  • no, i used the tab book, but its that not accurate.

  • Congratulations on another great performance. I'm a novice guitarist and find your work inspiring. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more from you. What is the name of the software you use to remove the guitar sound? I've seen several that remove vocals, but haven't come across any that remove guitar. Thank you.

  • thanks...yeah, its Guitar Pro 5.

  • Very difficult tune to cover but you captured the feel of the song, in particular an excellent intro. What I like about your videos is that we can actually hear what you are playing, with just a hint of Rush (or a midi) in the background and that it's more about the tune rather than you. Well played.

  • That guitar sounds great, I have an Epiphone Les Paul that I could never get to sound too great. What amplifier do you have?

  • ...yeah, they do vary enormously! this is played through a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade.

  • i cant wait to see them in may

  • purely awesome thanx for the post

  • I just love that bluesy beginning

  • yea i just learned the bules scale so can play that too

  • Really awesome job! Nice guitar too!!

  • cheers...yeah it a old epi LP that i stripped back to the bare wood.

  • Fantastic job!

    Nice bends :)

  • awesome

ive had such a hard time learning SA tunes by ear but u seem to do pretty well at it

  • ...yeah its a diff tuning as well!

  • Awesome as usual Rob. Great job! Keep um coming : )).

    Chris

  • As usual, awesome job! I just got Snakes & Arrows because I'm seeing them in May! Rock on!

  • ....dont rub it in!!! i might have to fly out State side to see them again...aaahhhh!!!

  • Lol-where'd you see them? If you people don't like spoilers read something else: I looked up an '07 playlist and La Villa and 2112 weren't listed along with no Closer to The Heart. Those three are definitely some of their best songs.

  • UK, NEC Birmingham...they only come to visit us once every 7 years, if were lucky.

  • As always - well done. I'm thinking of the Epi Les Paul you are using here. Any suggestions or words of wisdom on it?

  • ...this is a battered 10 yr old Epi with a bolt on neck, which i stripped back to the bare wood and then lem oiled it! Still one of my favourite guitars and it only cost £120! You never know what you get until you try it....this sounds and plays better than a £1K LP i used to own!

  • Beautiful LP! Great job!!!

  • ....thanks Patman!

  • one of my top two from S&A - great playing as always.

  • cheers...yeah, its just outstanding.
