I know you might just glance at this, but i just want to say how much of a inspiration to me, whenever im thinking of a new rush song to learn i go to your videos to check it out. Honestly, why did you pick the songs you did, whats your favorite album, and have you ever seen them live? Lastly, how did you make it big on youtube, and do you even care? Thanks for reading, please respond.
Hi Brent and thanks for the kind words! Basically these are my favourite Rush songs and luckily they play most of them live, so I can see what AL is doing on the DVD's. Favourite albums S&A and Power Windows. As for my channel, I think they are just a hell of alot of wannabe AL's out there, so I guess people are trying to find out how to play this stuff!
hey do you think you can write out the tabs for this song? i really want to learn it but no one has the tabs. obviously you did a really good job so do you think you can try it? From one rush fan to another?
Ok thanks. thats ok. im not sure what the tab book is , but ive been just trying to do what you're doing(not as well) for the past few days. your video is actually helping me a lot
There is an official tab book for the S&A album, you will find it on Ebay. Its a good starting point, but dont take it as gospel. Glad this vid is helping you out.
.....its funny, but I dont rate my solos, cant seem to get any flow to them. I notice you are only 17, so you have loads of time to improve.....just keep practising, if its something you love doing then it will happen.....eventually! I turned 40 before I could play anything!
Great to hear you are into Rush and working your way thru their albums, you have got loads to go at. They havent made a bad album and there is always a gem on each one.
yeah, S & A really is awesome. It's amazing that Rush is still writing awesome music and not just a bunch of filler like some of the other old band's new music.
I get so scared tuning my guitar to play this song, the sixth string is tuned up to a G and I feel like I'm going to snap it lol. So, sadly, I've forgotten some parts of the song.
Do you have the S&A tab book? It's really good; much better than Rush Complete.
What does this tuning get you? Easier open cords? I don't really get the alternate tuning thing. Shit, it's hard enough for me to keep up with two keys in standard tuning.
yeah, got the S&A tab book, its ok, but dont take it as gospel! Tuning is GGDGCE...alt tuning is a bit wierd, but saw an interview with AL and even he admits its all new to him, its just matter of experimenting to see what happens
Rush Complete was tabbed by a pianist, in my opinion. Impossible chords. At least S&A was tabbed by a guitarist.
I saw (bought) that interview/guitar lesson after I posted my comment. I was surprised he was so admittedly clueless on alt. tuning and tickled that he plays chord that he can't name. I wish they'd do an Anthem video lesson.
Alex doesn't get enough credit for his solos (as usual). Some of his solos come off as so chaotic and the timing uneven in the way one not follows another. The notes can follow each other like rocks tumbling down a hill. It must be a bitch to cover or duplicate them.
Congratulations on another great performance. I'm a novice guitarist and find your work inspiring. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more from you. What is the name of the software you use to remove the guitar sound? I've seen several that remove vocals, but haven't come across any that remove guitar. Thank you.
Very difficult tune to cover but you captured the feel of the song, in particular an excellent intro. What I like about your videos is that we can actually hear what you are playing, with just a hint of Rush (or a midi) in the background and that it's more about the tune rather than you. Well played.
Lol-where'd you see them? If you people don't like spoilers read something else: I looked up an '07 playlist and La Villa and 2112 weren't listed along with no Closer to The Heart. Those three are definitely some of their best songs.
...this is a battered 10 yr old Epi with a bolt on neck, which i stripped back to the bare wood and then lem oiled it! Still one of my favourite guitars and it only cost £120! You never know what you get until you try it....this sounds and plays better than a £1K LP i used to own!
Hey, I was curious what chords you were doing during 1:30 - 1:48

Rush4Life70494 3 years ago
intro is not too hard, couldnt really get to grips with the solo, as its quite understated.
