go to any indian restaurant in canada or america and ask for a bhathura chana and what you get is doubles. no need to wait to come to trinidad to have doubles

well maybe not in toronto as I also live in toronto. but i have grown up with the same thing also known as bhathura chana in my city (amritsar) and eating them from past 32 years and i find them the same as what u get in trinidad. the only difference is channas are less spicy in trinidad

i still don't think its the same at all, maybe similar ... but most of the indians in trinidad are not of punjabi origin or of sikh decent at all ... most are from bihar, uttar pradesh and some are from madras, so definitely no punjabi influence here ...

there have been many punjabi's in trinidad and if you know the oldest sikh temple in western hemisphere is in trinidad built in1860. the biggest spice company is owned by sikh in trinidad. i met alot of peoples in trinidad whose great grand parents were sikh but lack of religion they are all converts. so I am pretty sure its a punjabi thing as in india once you go out of punjab you cant find them.

they most be a very small minority because ive never met a trinidadian sikh before whos ancestors are from the olden days ... but i saw sikhs on tv once saying that they are trying to bring sikhism to trinidad or something like that a while back, i dont know if its the same thing your talking about

thats ok.... majority of the people in trinidad dont know as they think us as muslims... its ok as I came to know after talking with alot of people that they dont even know the right things about sikhs and alot of them think they are seikhs (middle east) since they pronounce sikh as seikh. coz i am a sikh wearing a turban so people come to me when they see and tell me that their grandfather was a sikh etc etc. we dont believe in spreading religion like other so people know less in small places

I'm from Vancouver Canada and the new generation people born here are not wearing turbans or even listening to Bhangra, they all are listening to Rap and Dance music. I can't even get them to go out with me for DESI garam khanna, they will go with me as friends to Burger King or for pizza, but traditional is out.... they drink and smoke more than you can imagine and I see 14 year old Punjabi girls walking home after school sharing cigarettes and then chewing elaichi before going home to mom!

i totally agree with you, but I think what you talking is for 5% of the total sikh population. I live in toronto and I seen very very few people like this. and I can give you examples of 95% of people listening to bhangra and eating desi khana. I play my bhangra in trinidad in my car and whichever pub/club I go and people specially ask to me for my CD's. like you said few bad apples are always there in every community and one cant do anything about them.
