i feel with zakk wylde it becomes more of a heavy track, with the D standard tuning and the Increased speed, but i prefer the RR version for clarity and tonality, as his was less focused on being crunchy powerchords and pinch harmonics

I agree with @zoomzilla67 pinch harmonics overused. The whole motif of the train get lost with Zakk's version. RR used controled feedback in the beginning to simulate the sound of a train wheel's high pitched screech. Even the main verse progression (A - D/A - E/A - A) is played with to sound like a train chugging (albeit quickly). All that is completely lost on Zakk. Not putting Zakk down, I just don't think he gets subtlety.
