Banks get money for free from the Federal Reserve, or next to nothing at 0.25% and then invest it in T-Bills leveraged thru fractional reserve banking to a 20% return.

Why on earth would they lend money to citizens when they can make vast amounts with zero risk by purchasing government debt?
