She got the part--this got Mad Tv off the ground-- for making up a character who was a bitch to everyone and had nothing nice to say. She was dubbed "Vancom Lady" because of where the first appearance of her character was working at was either a store named Vancom or the mall was named Vancom (I don't remember).

Rita is played by Nicole Sullivan who was on Mad Tv from 1995-2001 (Seasons 1-6). Mad TV was great then.
