Same story for RS6 vs M5....Rs6 needs 580 hp to beat 500 hp m5...but the thing is...M5 just lost by an inch...

Usually the car with more horsepower does win. Every manufacturer does this. BMW released the E92 M3 with a V8 two years after the release of the Audi RS4. The Audi RS4 was only available in the US for 2 years as 07 and 08 models. I think the M3 is a better car by the slimest of margins when in the hands of a skilled driver. It will be interesting to see if Audi unleashes a new RS4 with an updated V8. My guess is they are waiting for BMW to release the new V6 version.

Compared to the older M3 yes. The new 420 HP M3 has consistently r*ped the RS4 in every single track comparison (Top Gear, Car and driver, Motor Trend, Road and Track and the list goes on).

The V8 M3 is 300 lbs lighter, makes more power to the wheels due to less parasitic loss of RWD and has a much better weight distribution for race track.

Their Nurburgring lap times are a full 7 seconds apart making M3 A LOT faster around Nurburgring.

Do the homework first. The RS4 has 414 bhp and 1680 kg while M3 has 343 bhp and 1549 kg. It's 0.246 bhp/kg versus 0.221 bhp/kg. Audi has a slight advantage and that reflects on the lap time. Now, take into account the quattro system working on a wet track, this slight advantage becomes a huge one, and that's why the RS4 is overall better than the M3. Consider also the built quality from Audi, which is top notch, and you have almost "the" car to own, even if the M3 is a bit more fun to drive.

Second, you can't rely on a single hot lap to compare the performance of two cars. 4 seconds in a track where it takes more than 7 minutes to finish is not that much, since any driver mistake will cost, bit by bit, that amount of time. Statistically, it would require more than one single lap to be sure about the time. Am I clear? Do I have to make a diagram?

if we gonna compare we should compare the older rs4 with the e46 m3 as there in the same price range and era. before we claim the latest rs4 a legend lets compare it with the e92 m3. im pretty sure the rs4 will get whopped! in all departments.

The RS4 is a very good car. Even better than the E46 m3 in certain ways (Certainly on posting fast lap times). Too bad this car will never be remembered in a few years time whereas the E46 M3 will become a legend.

how can you say that when the M3 HAS had the time to prove itself a legend, where the RS4 has just barely come out. It already has come out with very impressive figures and performance, who ever said it WOULDN'T become a legend? It already is a legend!

This Video makes me question the Rs4's dynamic ability, If it cant handle the old M3 easily round a (wet) track, then Whats it gonna do when the V8 M3 is available.

The RS4 easily outhandles the M3. On the Nurburgring the RS4 achieved a time of 8:09 aginst the 8:22 of the M3.

With 70 extra hp it should always be faster, but in the conditions of the video favouring the quattro, the M3 should have been eaten by the Rs4 on the exit of every corner, it just didnt seem to have a massive edge on the track.

No for the E46 as you see here. Take note though that the V10 powered M5 and M6 did respectivicly 8:13 and 8:09.

Driven by the same driver and no faster then the RS4.

The DTM driver Frank Stipler did a 7:58min with a stock RS4... the different bewtween E46 M3 and B7 RS4 is giant.. the RS4 is a completly other perfromance class.. no matter how hard BMW Fanboys try to disagree..

It is. As long as BMW don't understand that cars over 400 HP MUST have all wheel drive, they'll always be loosing.
