It's easy to get confused, and to think that - because she uses the word "Solace".. as uncommon as a word that is to use these days, it's still just a word..... and while it could've been a 'nod' to the film, which we will never know for sure - it has no association with EON or the film itself, or else we would've heard something by now...

if you want a bigger coincidence, look up her song "The Living Tree" - blatant Bond theme in the back ground during the chorus.

  • @DJX187

Well... this was obviously either a potential theme song for 'Quantum" or it was inspired by the music from the film and the film itself. The key musical riff used in this song is the same as a key one from the film and this song was written with Don Black, so that screams of a clearly Bond-related collaboration.

There was also a speculated Amy Winehouse connection to this song, but it sounds like she was writing one with her producer that was never finished... so probably not...

Believe me, I once thought the same thing.. but i assure you it's no way connected - or intended to be connected.. as this song was worked on AFTER the announcement of Jack White and Alicia Keys being chosen to sing the QOS theme, and AFTER Arnold had already finished or was wrapping up the score for QOS.... trust me - i've been a part of this same discussion on several other threads and sites.

  • they should've went with this instead of Another way to die, OMG!

PS: This song is in Quantum, its just background music that has no lyrics. Think of the part right after the boat chase, where it goes: Da Doo de de da do. That's this song

  • @SlapstickCoyote

This is exactly why I tried it as an alternate theme song... I, personally, am beginning to appreciate AWTD, but I think this is much more fitting as a Bond theme song, no matter how boring most people may consider it to be.

  • @007fordummies yeah but the reason they when with Alicia and Jack is because more people know them these days then Shirley so a bigger box office - so it didn't have anything to do with which song was better

  • @SlapstickCoyote

True, because a lot of the people who went to see Quantum of Solace definitely wouldn't have seen it if Shirley Bassey had sung the theme song... the box office would've been hurt by that one. ;)

I have to respectfully disagree. Eon wanted to have the theme song be one that could also be a single on the pop charts and, hopefully, make them a LOT more money through music sales. (which didn't really happen, only one week on the Billboard Top 100 at 81... not great)

  • @SlapstickCoyote

the melodies may be similar, because David Arnold worked on this song with Ms Bassey - but this song, nor it's melody are in any way a part of Quantum Of Solace...

Jack White and Alicia Keys were picked to try and create a mainstream hit - a ghost they've been chasing since A View To A Kill... no official word from EON or Ms Bassey if she was even approached at all for the theme - if she even wants to do another to boot.

  • @DJX187 yes they are their exactly similar. Play back the very part of the part where the boat chase ends and its all in slow motion

  • @DJX187 i looked it up for you. If you own the dvd, it happens at Chapter 10, at 32:46

  • @SlapstickCoyote

I know exactly the part you are talking about... but your missing my point... what i am saying is - is even though the melodies sound similar, or even if they are exactly the same, it's purely coincidental - this song has absolutely no affiliation with Quantum Of Solace.

  • @DJX187 it couldn't be coincidental, It uses the word Solace "Where is that solace that i crave for" - Arnold was thinking of 007 the entire time he helped do this song, and he put those notes in on purpose

  • This is really AWESOME!!! Great work on doing a combination of the two opening titles it really works, good job! Have you ever thought of doing a version without the names a titles to see what that would be like?

  • Really Good Nice in HD I like the Combination in the Title Sequence and If this film had Eva Green and Olga Kurylenko both in it OHHHHHHH Hell You know what Im thinking LOL, Im curious but what Program did u use to put your Nice Editng form together I use Sony Vegas 9 Pro, Oh and Shirley Bassey what a Voice!!!!
