England doesn't control Scotland. It's the UNITED Kingdom. This is why it was such a "Big Deal" when Scotland gained independence from England, and why many Scots are arguing for complete seperation.

No what I said is entire true. New Jersey is a state, with it's own state laws, government and representatives. Naturally it is a smaller state population wise, and economically than, say, California, and as a result has less influence. Scotland in the UK is different, but in some ways very similar.
If you were really Scottish you'd know your own history. Scotland was suffering severe economic hardship at the close of the 17the century, and so agreed ITSELF to an act of Union.

England doesn't control Scotland. It's the UNITED Kingdom. Scotland has it's own parliament and is governed by Scots, not the English it's not like when Ireland was under British rule where by there was no Irish parliament after 1801 and even when there was it was controlled by an English Protestant acendancy while the Irish lived in poverty. This is why it was such a "Big Deal" when Scotland gained independence from England, and why many Scots are arguing for complete seperation.

@chrysabra It could be said that Scotland has more freedom than England in the union. While Scottish politicians can vote on English matters, the English politicians cannot vote on Scottish matters. It isn't quite as simple as "England controls Scotland and should let them go". Why isn't it that England should gain independence from Scotland?

Scotland is in Union with England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Saying Scotland is under the rule of Great Britain is a bit like saying New Jersey is under the rule of the United States of America.
Read a little more about the history of the UK.

@alexmasic Sadly you are correct. But then England is the most heavily taxed state in the union. Wales, Scotland and northern Ireland are subsidised by English tax allowing Scotland to have no tuition fees for Universities, Free prescriptions etc. It is indeed a union with many flaws but also a union with many accomplishments.

Might have been hundreds of years ago but our independence was taken not given. We are a COUNTRY not a city or town or whatever new jersey is.

No what I said is entire true. New Jersey is a state, with it's own state laws, government and representatives. Naturally it is a smaller state population wise, and economically than, say, California, and as a result has less influence. Scotland in the UK is different, but in some ways very similar.
If you were really Scottish you'd know your own history. Scotland was suffering severe economic hardship at the close of the 17the century, and so agreed ITSELF to an act of Union.

Just a reminder, there is higher support for Scotland leaving the Union in England than there is in Scotland. Ever wonder why?
