  • Such a great tutorial! Thank you!

  • this is so easy to understand

    thankyou a lot

i had spent a lot of time try to find out how to do this

  • so looking forward to watching this but with the music in the back ground I couldn't hear what you were saying, disappointed.

  • oh my gosh what an amazing video series! i just checked out your etsy and poo'd myself with excitement a bit because you're based out of san jose, my home town! i live in amsterdam now but seeing an artisan in san jose really made me so happy. south bay has a growing culture and it's so great to see an artist in action.

  • Thanks so much for these videos - they've been so helpful. :)

  • Very useful! Thanks:)

  • god youre hot, oh and thanks for the tutorial

  • I personally hate the music in the background. its very distracting...

  • Hi. i love your tutorials. Thanks so much for making them.

i wanted to know how much roving your started with at the beginning, because you seemed to have come up with a lot of yarn by the end of it

  • Thanks Megan! So great:) Can't wait to finish spinning so I can do this. May have to stay up all night!

  • Thanks, Megan! Can't wait to finish my handspun so I can follow this process and knit something special!

  • Thanks for the video

I loved it all! The music and the guitar on the side and your instructions are great. I use a chair too and made a nitty-noddy with balsa wood. I wish I could make a spinning wheel and just might someday. peace and love

  • Thanks for your videos. :) I have been toying with the idea of getting a drop spindle so I went hunting around for what it entailed. Your videos are very clear and informative.

  • Thank you so much for your videos! They were the first ones to come up when I did a search on using the drop spindle. I really like the music in the background - usually with tutorial videos I find myself skipping around because just speech alone doesn't hold my interest. But with yours I found myself happily bopping around while learning from you! Thanks again!

  • HI Nice video well done. You split the yarn what do you do for splitting, more wool? Thanks for listening ,The music doesnt really help for me it was a distraction.

  • Nice video, thank you. Are you planning on showing your dyeing next?

  • nice video, thanks. are you planning on showing your dyeing next?

  • Just wanted to add to all the positive comments here - I LOVE your videos! They are so clear and I can't wait to get started! THANKS!

  • Thanks so much, Megan! I just got a Louet drop spindle, and the "wonderful" instruction booklet that came with it didn't do much in the way of instructing. From your videos, I now know what to do with the thick roving, how to draft and spin, and how to set the twist. Louet left a lot out...Thanks again!

  • Thank you so much for making easy to follow, very descriptive videos on how to spin on a drop spindle! :D Thanks to you I know have about 26 yards of my very first (very thick and thin and slubby) yarn hanging up in my shower to set the twist! You are awesome!

  • Hi Meg

your videos are very useful for me! I'm a beginner with the spinning...

    thanks eli

  • where do you get your raw wool?

  • Megan, Thank you so much, these videos are awesome! I am just getting interested in spinning. Your tuturials are very clear and i know they will help me get started!!! You are gorgeous BTW. Good luck to you!! :o)

  • Thanks for this! I just made my first ever handspun and you were there every step of the way. *squee*

  • I was impressed with your tutorials. Your demonstrations are very clear. The sizes and contrasts in your tools and materials, as well as consistently correct vocabulary, help me understand what you're doing. I now feel confident to tackle that roving that's been languishing in my cupboard!

  • Thank you so much for your videos...They are great! I was going insane trying to understand the written directions and watching you do it made it so much easier. Keep on keepin' on!

  • thank you for posting this!

  • cool. very instructional and fun! love it. ur good at making vids.

  • thank you so much you made it so easy to follow and do. I would have gone crazy trying to decifer the written instructions that i have. And I like the music.

  • Thank you so much for posting these videos. I just wish you didn't have any music on in the background. That would make it even easier to hear you when you teach. Thank you again!!

  • Thank you SO much for posting all of these videos! I got a drop spindle for my birthday and was trying to follow the instructions in a book and they just didn't make sense. Your explanations were a lot easier to follow!

  • This is exactly the sort of tutorial I need, thank you so much!

  • Clear, concise and very helpful! Can you tell me what the music was in the background? I really liked it :-)

  • @MissKitty73 It sounds like a reggae version of karma police by radiohead. Though I may be wrong.

  • Interesting! Cheers :-)

  • Good tutorials. My issue with them is the background music. Being partially deaf, the bass does drown out your speaking voice and I miss instructions. This is my problem; however, I wanted to mention it in case others have the same issue. Thank you for creating and posting your videos. :-)

  • Thanks so much for these great tutorials. You are a natural teacher! As an aside, I was bummed to read some of the negative comments some self-proclaimed experts posted on your last vid. I hope you'll keep on doing what you're doing! You're doing an awesome job.

  • Thank you for your very concise and clear explanations! I've been wanting to start spinning, and tonight I bought a drop spindle b/c you made me feel like it wouldn't be a waste.

  • Very crafty use of a chair. Well done.

  • Thank you very much for your videos, they are very very helpful. And very easy to understand.

Are you going to do a Plying video as well?

  • Wow, thank you so much for this tutorial (and the others). Very clear, concise and helpful to a beginner like me. I cannot wait to try it out myself.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this. It is very helpfull for me as a beginner. I can't wait to try and I hope I can do a good job like you!

  • What a beautiful craft to learn. I can't wait to try it...thanks for sharing it. You are also a great instructor!

  • woo-hoo. This video was fantastic. It's like the only video I can find telling you what do DO with the yarn once you spin it!!! Great video...You have a really good presence also. You kind of remind me of Vicki Howell haha!

  • Thanks for making these videos. I've always wondered how to make yarn with a spindle.

  • Thanks for telling us how to set the twist! I haven't been able to find any tutorial for that in any other videos that I've found. Your videos are really helpful!

  • Thanks again for such an awesome video with wonderful and clear explanations!!

  • Wonderful ! Great reggae music too! a 2 fer!

  • i love you megan! you're so sweet and your tutorials are AMAZING! best on youtube! x

  • fantastic! thanks!! is there a dyeing tutorial as well??

  • Thanks so much!

This is one of the the best tutorials I've seen!

  • Awesome job on this and your drop spindle tutorial--I'm taking a class soon and wanted some idea of what I'd be doing, this was perfect!

  • this was soooo helpful. thanks so much!

  • Your tutorials are perfect for a complete novice like myself, thanks for everything!

Plus, your reggae version of OK Computer is beautiful.

  • I LOVE your three tutorials! I watched them last night (propping my eyelids up as it was after midnight, but I HAD to watch them) and then ran out this morning, bought some roving and assembled a drop spindle, et Voila! I have a skein of homespun wool. You're the best!

  • Awesome tutorials!

  • That's a neat way of doing it! I use a Niddy-Noddy to create a skein.

  • Excellent tutorials, best of the lot. Now I finally understand spinning. Everything was very clear and concise, I could see what you were doing all the time. The music was a nice addition too.

  • Hi there, I think your tutorials are great! You've done a wonderful job. Doing things with white yarn, and a black shirt was genius.

I've only recently taken an interest in all things spinning and textile. Your videos have taken me a long way on the road to yarn artistry! Wonderful.

I also would like to see a tutorial on plying.

  • Hi - do you not ply your yarn? I have just started to create some singles (using your vids - thanks) but all of the other articles I read / view talk about plying two singles together before you hank them?

  • Plying yarn is something you can decide whether or not you are going to do with your singles. It's not a requirement, though, but can balance out a beginner's more uneven yarns. There are a few methods, and in the near future I plan on making videos with some plying techniques. For now, the day job has me.

  • ah - ha I see - thanks for the quick response. I have now done a little bit of plying! it's hard not to get everything in a mess - I wonder if I have done the original singles too tight. A tutorial (when you get time) on plying would be great.

  • wow,ya know i havent done spinning before but those 3 videos definatly got me interesting in it! iv studied it so much that when i do pick it up,ill be great! thank you so much!

  • Thank you so much for posting this series of videos! I have been wanting to learn to spin for quite awhile now, bought a drop spindle and everything, but totally chickened out when I started reading books on what to do. Your videos helped so much more than the books ever did! Thank you!!!

  • learning to crochet at 8 and dropping it for a long time, picking back up again, led to wanting prettier yarn than acrylic, lead to teaching myself to knit, then of course following the natural progression to wanting to make my own yarn, led to youtube, led to your great vids!!! thanks for making it so easy, and set to good tunes!!!

  • Exellent videos - I love all 3. Can you do one on plying? Also one on dying? You do such a great job.

  • Really excellent videos. I've had my spindle for a year, have tried many times and failed. I watched your videos and was spinning (and happy with the results) within 10 minutes. Excellent job.

  • Thank you for making 3 videos with very clear explanations and demonstrations. I am feeling more confident that I can do this!

  • Thank you for clear demos. All three videos answered several questions; now I can get those fabulous carded fiber batts...

  • Very cool and useful set of 3 videos, thanks! :-)

  • Thank you for your clear explanations! I am just now learning the drop spindle from videos on youtube. I have been having problems drafting and spinning at the same time so I like your predrafting method- I just watched all 3 videos. Nice job!
