Ernie, i was the kid that tucked a transistor radio under his pillow so i could listen to tiger games after my bed time back in the 70's. you were the voice of summer and of my youth. thank you. you will be missed.
It's been a very rough week for all of us who have listened to Mr. Harwell throughout many a baseball season and though it'll never, ever be the same, thee game of summer must go on.
Many, many a tear has shed; more then the combined rains that have cancelled every game scheduled over the passage of baseball's honored history.
So long, dear summer companion.
We'll meet at Heaven's diamond one summer day, sitting just beneath the broadcast booth, looking up.
He just passed away tonight...I too spent many summers with my transistor radio listening to Ernie call the game. All I can ever say has been said by others. I can only add, "there went a man"
I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell. Many a summer night with the window open and the radio playing did I listen to the game and that great anouncer. Now I am 52 with 5 children and 3 grandchildren and watching this vdeo was a great blessing. Thank you Ernie and God bless you.
i can't help but cry everytime i see this video...Ernie Harwell is an amazing asset to the Detroit Tigers Family and MLB in General <3 God Bless Ernie Harwell & His Family

A great announcer, and an even better man. Ernie was a friend to many generations of Tiger fans, no matter our age or if we had ever met him. RIP.
