I do agree that more expensive materials are a lot better, however when I started out, I used Crayola watercolors as well as very cheap, $10 brushes. I produced some of my best paintings using them. I still use my Crayola materials as well as my newer, more expensive brands.
I'm just saying, cheap things do sometimes work. But I wouldn't use them for everything.
i do have a question though, my watercolors never cooperate with me, and my pallet looks nothing like that (i got them as gifts) my pallet has little cups with lids but i feel like i use my watercolors wrong, i put the paint from the tube in the cups and fill it with water...they never really work with me i know im doing it wrong but im not sure how to fix it...
=D Like your sense of humor. This one was tips and tricks for my free watercolor class, and hopefully most know how. to do that, of course, many are wanting to know how to prevent that..lol
I will be doing more painting that will show how to make some nice blotches..:)
LOL, very welcoming and warm beginning^^ But I'm more unsure about the starting point of painting. I still don't get how to know get those big splotches D:"

I agree with Susie, buy the best quality watercolor paints and brushes you can afford. It makes a world of difference.

apart from the pallette setup cheap watercolors work good.
Van Goghs and Grumbachers are great. Your paper is what matters more then the paint. You can wc on Bristol board or wc paper.
