They most certainly did not sell out, they made a prettier album with more complicated and technical songs. It is called growing as musicians, who wants to play same kind of stuff forever? I saw a version of "Head Full of Doubt" live (the first live performance) and Scott said they just happened to fall into using the piano and drums to write the I&L&Y songs and that for all they know they'll pick up other new instruments later. I actually find it badass that they had such a change-up right at their major-label debut
